Thougt about Ryan here but am hearing the Eagles have him and will take him later unless someone spoils them. If they thought Fremantle were coming then maybe. Could see a key defender as well and wouldn’t surprise me to see a Taylor or a Petty.

Love your work, great read and insight.

Interested in these comments about Ryan, could you elaborate if possible?

Would've thought teams would be falling over themselves if he's available in the 40/50s. Personally think we'll use 37 and then see if anyone else we likes slides. Hope ur on the money however.

Great work mate.Do think there is enough quality talls to atleast grab 2 of them in tigers 3 picks in 25 even a few projects in the 50 range unless a gun slides.

Small Forwards is one thing Richmond do not have a shortage of

Best player available for sure. Could we do with a Toby Greene? that's the player I think Higgins plays like.

Higgins may start as a small forward but he wont finish there. He'll be a gun mid.

Higgins, 178cm, ended the carnival averaging 27 disposals, 13 contested possessions, six tackles and five clearances. That added to the work he did forward of centre, where he still managed to kick six goals and provide a further seven goal assists from just four games.

Such form carried through to the second half of the TAC Cup season, where Higgins was influential in helping Oakleigh finish the campaign as minor premiers.

Multiple 30-disposal games in the midfield were followed with huge hauls up forward, including an incredible seven-goal match against the Pioneers in August.

It saw Higgins end the TAC Cup season averaging 23 disposals and 2.3 goals per match.

The end product? In the 33 games Champion Data has covered Higgins throughout his junior career, he has averaged 145 ranking points — the best average figure ever recorded by the AFL’s official number crunchers, beating Tom Rockliff’s record of 144.

I can't say that I am all that thrilled with your draft for the Eagles. Allen (again !) in a position that the Eagles already have covered and a bunch of utilities early who may, or may not be able to play in the midfield when many people are saying that the Eagles need midfielders, especially inside midfielders.

Wearing an essendon hat- I just can't see them taking Day. I would have thought Hayden or Ainsworth are better bets as midfielders while I think a key forward would have to pique some interest. Boyse has talent but we probably have an over supply of 190cm tweeners in my opinion.
Great catch on Flynn Appleby- his effort on miners and woollen were also impressive.
Great read as usual- well done

Yeah you would have liked the previous versions which had them there. Decided in the end getting a really promising kid like Day with a heap of upside with the way to go and then get a mature age kid down the track such as Patrick Wilson who have watched for a few years and think he could slot straight in for the Dons. In the end that was probably the thinking but had it the other way with Hayden slotted in there at one stage as well as Ainsworth and also Banfield.

Agree re Boyse as well but just thought given what he has done with VFL side he might get an opportunity with Essendon. Does it also give them scope to push Hooker back? I am still not sold on Stewart.

Great job Snoop.

Like Davies-Uniacke and Constable but I can't see us taking Hayes at 18 with Lachlan Fogarty, Lochie O'Brien and Zac Bailey still on the board.

Would like Sambono over Daniels.

Yeah I probably just had the thinking that they need some long term support for Martin / Smith etc as not sold on Oscar M and also that with Schache and Close gone someone who can also play deep forward would appeal. Post that selection there wasnt going to be many left and is a pretty good mix with Hipwood. I am a fan of Hayes I think he will be a terrific player he has just been marked down on his endurance but he will get there.

Good work mate and a big :thumbsu: on recognising my favourite local lad Flynn Appleby, the underrating of Flynn in this draft is criminal, I can only think it's from people that have rarely seen him play, if at all.

People just havent seen him. He should get drafted. As foj1 said he did some very good jobs on talls and smalls and his ability to read the ball in the air and use his body to get position is high standard. That element reminds me of Nick Maxwell.

Wooller or McCartin over Kreuger and Sambono/Moore late is what i want but very happy with Fogarty and Bailey.

Was interesting when I had a look at the Cats list and then asked around the views were mixed. I guess in some ways its easy to look at Lonergan gone and Taylor not far away but Henderson is there, JK is tall and strong enough in the modern defensive structures to take the next tall and then you have blokes like Stewart and the young bloke in the 2's Gardner so for mine they were well enough stocked there and then at the other end with Hawkins and a couple of the young forwards like Buzza coming up didnt think they needed one there either. Hence I went for Kreuger because he gives them a really athletic, mobile forward who with some more consistency and strength can give them what they probably hoped Black would offer.

The other selections were really about speed and then Oscar later as someone to develop who was just to good to let fall any further. I really liked the Barry call bc I thnk the Menagola selection was fantastic and they could pull a similar move with him.

I dont want to knock McCartin and Wooller I just think NK upside is bigger.

Im no draft expert by any means but i would be absolutely over the moon bringing in Dow and Brayshaw. That would set up the Freo midfield for years to come having two inside outside mids with decent pace who can both break away from packs, kick goals and are capable of playing other positions also. I would think we would also like to bring in a ruck of some form, developing or mature, and some KPF and KPD with some later picks and just hope that one or two of them pay off.

Great draft and great read, appreciate all the time and effort you have put in to this!

Pleasure and yes Fremantle will have a great draft whichever way.

Scott Jones is probably the ruck I think they would go for and he is on their back door and would know him so well. Ben Miller is someone who they could mould and become that bigger target that McCarthy and Kersten dont offer. Keitel gives them some immediacy around that position as well.

Wathc out for Appleby. I think he might be a Docker.

Would also be interesting to see if they look at Marsh.

When I saw Cerra at 6 I was a bit disappointed tbh, but a haul of Cerra, Petty, Wooller and Brown would be amazing. Love your work Snoop!

Thanks. Yeah I think that 6 selection really could be any one of 5-6 players and as a Pies fan I am reasonably comfortable with any of them. Originally had taylor at the 2nd round selection but i think he does probably edge out Petty because of his late season form. Wooller would be good but he has some questions around his speed which I think gets him to that selection but someone like Miller, Kreuger or McLean should be there.

Love the Richards selection, one that would surprise most but I'd rather reach for him at 11 rather than hope one of him or Stoddart is there at our picks in the 20's

the GWS blokes want / need a small forward and thats pretty well known so Higgins is going to be close but I think if they can convince themselves a Spargo is there at late 20's then it gives them the scope to take a different type at #11. I think Richards will appeal to Adrian and the team and they arent afraid to pick blokes early than group think. Only issue I have on Richards is do they see him as similar to Isaac C and Harry P. They also have Kennedy back this year so for mine it would be on the basis they see him playing higher which I think he can and he showed on GF day in the All Star game.

Who do you think the Academy kids will be?

No room on Melbourne's list for rookies or pick 81 if you're being super accurate. No harm if not.

Like the first 3 picks. Athletic wingmen/flankers with pace and/or skill is what we need.

Probably would go for a tall defender or a pressure forward for a needs based pick over a ruck. Mitch King is coming on and we have Filipovic as a rookie as well. Unless it's clear best available I'd wait til next year when we have more list room to bring in a big bloke. We've got 3 category B rookie spots empty as well and they are prime ruck spots.

So at 46 I'd be surprised if Clavarino (trained with the club with academy and seemed to fit in well, good insurance if Frost and Oscar don't work out), Daniels (needs based pick to give some extra forward pressure) and Fritsch (less needs based if we've drafted 3 flankers already but too good to pass on a home grown kid late in the draft) were all left on the table for a ruck.

Ok I will go back and check but thought they had 5 selections in the National Draft to take them to 40 and then 1 rookie spot free.

Yeah Melbourne wasnt easy to be honest. I hear a lot about the list not being balanced but I think its actually quite good. I did think someone with some real speed was a must and also a big target forward / ruck.

Stoddardt was just to good to let drop any further and Ross as well is a very agile / mobile type to work with. Petrucelle has real speed as we all know and the three play across different areas of the ground so thought that addressed the only real issue I can see and to do it with three picks in the 30's after getting Lever and Balic played out well.

For the forward piece I think CCJ was perfect and he is one of the best marks in the league but his kicking is a bit off and hence why I had him dropping but it is effective (or more than he gets credit for). Also was the best player left.

In terms of the defensive piece that is why I took Mihocek in the Rookie. He could fill in if blokes McDonald boys, Lever, Frost etc fell over.

Point taken on the small forward but where is JKH, Johnstone and Dean Kent at?

Rayner, Clark and Worpel is a good draft for us. I'd personally prefer Schloithe over Edwards at #73 As I think we need another mature body.

Also likely that we will rookie at least one of Boekhorst, Shaw and O'Shea.

Fair play ....just know SOS likes to spoil people's best laid plans. Schloithe would be a good fit. Someone like a Banfield as well given Sam injury.

In regards to Brisbane's draft. We have 6 senior lists spots and one rookie list spot. With the commitment to redraft Claye Beams and Cian Hanley, the belief is we'll only make 5 picks in the National draft, pass on the last so we have two rookie spots for the rookie draft.

At pick 18 Sam Hayes definitely does not fill a need.

Yeah I probably see it differently as cant see on that list an elite key forward bar Hipwood but thats just my view.

Yeah agree on the number of picks but was thinking they may need 60 for Payne otherwise they have to take him at 53 and for mine to many good players left might as well take 53 and just match the bid if it comes after 53 and go one short on the rookie.

Its why I dont think they should commit to having both blokes redrafted (are they contracted) as it is effectlively (if you use my draft as a proxy) between redrafting Beams or Hanley vs taking Daniels and then matching a bid with that 6th spot (assuming it comes after 53).

I just think they should say, "hey no promises but if there is an opportunity to redraft you we will we just need to see how the nigh plays out".

I would probably rather not but look there is a chance he goes higher but I think there are still some questions about how well he will go interstate.

Absolutely - in the end I just went with best available for the Tigers but in previous editions had Brander and Hayes there. There are a lot of good mid types later.

What would you like to see them do.

In the GWS # 11 piece i refer to the fact he is like Greene hence why I dont think they take him and he stays on.

Yeah I think he can make it there - particularly if he gets past GWS.

WCE - I think they go tall

Swans - I think they go tall or look for a big mid.

Dogs - For mine they will go for a different type but they are a chance.

Lions - if there is a good mid left they surely go that way.

so yeah I reckon he can. Will know more next week.

Great read.

Reckon we would take Cassidy Parish with either our last ND pick or with our first rookie pick if it panned out like this.

Yes he would be a good chance. I just question his disposal but a late pick or a rookie pick makes sense. I went with Wilson who I like and think plays straight away. Day is one for 2 years time.

foj1 interested in your view.

Yeah that is fair and I probably struggled with going tall defender but with McGovern and Barass there and having taken Rotham as well last year I thought they may hold off. Also with Yeo as well (I know he can play mid) I thought with the modern defense they are set with 3-4 elite players for a while.

JK is turning 30, I think there are questions around Darling and frankly dont see much else in the cupboard for them forward. For mine with the picks they have they should use that first one to get the best key forward in the draft. Quality key forwards are very rare outside of the top 15-20 so I would take him there and fix the mids later.

Monocle interested in your view.
