I see that the "Heirs of the composer for Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On" are suing Ed Sheran for Thinking Out Loud.

Other than being slow tempo songs with ridiculously simple chord progressions, which incidentally are not even the same key, I do not hear it.

Everyone borrows from what came before them in every field of art, science, business, everything. Unless it is blatant plagiarism (i.e.. Sweet Child intro or something) this is just blatant opportunism by the "Heirs"

The heirs can GAGF'd

Unless it's a note for note lift, the only reason people sue other people for "stealing their music" is for money. The question would be where did the suer stole his from

Chord progressions and structures have been the same since the classical times, that's just how music theory works, there's a pattern on pleasant sounding chord progressions and melodies. It's just something people would have to accept

More Than A Feeling gets ripped off a bit. I wonder why – shit song.
Well don't agree that it's shit but evidently a lot of artists were impressed by the riff!

Whenever I listen to Head Like A Hole by Nine Inch Nails, I think that Trent Reznor spent a lot of time listening to Stigmata by Ministry. As far as I can tell, Reznor basically modified the main riff from Stigmata.

Duran Duran/Japan has already been mentioned - I often think that Duran Duran was Japan if Japan placed maximum commercial appeal instead of David Sylvian's artistic vision.

One of the riffs in the middle of The Offspring's Hammerhead is a blatant rip-off of The Kinks' All Day And All Of The Night.

The City of the Dead section in Green Day's Jesus of Suburbia takes cues from Motley Crue's On With the Show.

The bassline in Rick James' Superfreak was appropriated by MC Hammer for his risible hit.

Wolfmother sounded enough like Led Zeppelin that Mike Patton of all people alluded to it.
