I don’t think I’d be very happy in giving up 2 first rounders at the end of 2019 when he would be available the following year as a free agent. He can spend an extra year at GWS if he really wants to be a north player.

I could be wrong but I think it's the end of 2021 that he'd be a free agent (assuming no change to rules)?

Because he's not in it for the NMFC. This gives him the best opportunity to play GWS off vs NMFC.
May have been from GWS side, out of contact the year before RFA, cashing in a year early like soccer do before players walk for nothing?

Free agency rules could change to be less years to qualify

Wouldn't surprise me if it's changed to 6 years at start of 2019 to be a fa
Players Association wants it at 6 i believe.

The PA can go and jam it...
Unless of course they agree to allow clubs to trade players without their consent while under contract. Kinda like every other FA model in the world!!!!
How the clubs got so bent over in the last deal is beyond me.
Players under contract can demand a trade, players out of contract but not yet eligible for FA can pick and choose their club, and it virtually always gets done. Bloody hell even if the player wants a trade, and the the club wants to trade the player, it’s the player that decides with whom th club can deal with....
We follow clubs, not players, and we pay the bills. The fans own this game and the players currently have way to much power.

Footy is a profession with employees.

Totally with you Phil.

It's tail wagging the dog stuff.

Agreed, but do you really think that is a plausible scenario?

Surely no club would offer, nor demand, 2 first rounders for a player 1 year from free agency. You just need to package something better than the likely compensation pick, which is therefore less than 2 first rounders.

Anyhow, I'm more into LDU for the time being, but I am still convinced we will collectively fall over ourselves to get Kelly if the list gets to the level we hope 2 years from now.

Haven't taken PA seriously since the WADA decision.

Don't really want to add more non-LDU stuff into this LDU thread, but there seems to be a lot of people who incorrectly assume Kelly is a free agent at end of 2020. He is not a free agent until end 2021, and that's assuming he signs for another 2 year contract at end of 2019.
