Bad press. I remember we received a few questions about being sponsored by a betting agency in a climate where betting is increasingly meant to be separated from the sports themselves. I remember it being raised at an AGM at some stage too.

I would definitely feel a little disappointed if we had a betting agency as a major sponsor. It just feels like money for the sake of money, and for that reason too I didn't feel a ubet sponsorship sat well with PAFCs community aligned goals.

Ubet upgraded to joint major partner.
At the family day before the trial match and a new training guernsey will be unveiled with Ubet on the front.
It’s possible, but not likely after what Kochie said on 5aa yesterday morning about the club trying to be less reliant on pokies and gambling revenue as a way forward.

Did he give any other hints?

I hope everyone shields their eyes when they walk into the club rooms then. McDonald’s sponsor Auskick FFS. I’m sure that shit does more damage than mum or dad heading down to the tab.

I don't have a problem with being sponsored by a betting agency. Obesity and heart disease are a blight on the community so being sponsored by pies and flavoured milk probably isn't ideal either. It's all about choices.

That really depends...

But that's a fair deflection. It's like saying "Would you rather be sponsored by Hitler or Stalin?" (godwins). Neither are good options unless you are purely after the backing they provide and not the image they create.

Take into account the issues caused by Kyrgios' brother Christos wearing a sportsbet shirt at the tennis, it bought on some bad press. Betting has a place, but it probably shouldn't be front and centre with us. Particularly as I mentioned earlier that it doesn't align with our community focus and recent change of motto from "we exist to win premierships" to "we exist to win premierships and make our community proud".

Also consider the fact how much McDonalds puts back into children's sport, mchappyday, Ronald foundation and so on. Sportsbet don't have that same 'check and balance' on their karma so to speak.

Long story short, if we accepted UBet as joint major - then it would be for the money and the exposure for their brand and nothing else. That isn't us. Lower level sponsorship, fine, but not the majors - where we actively need to work together for our image and the good of the community.

What would be interesting is if they came out and said we want to sponsor port because of our community work, that would be an interesting angle for them to take. Alas, I doubt UBet will be our major lol.

When I see kids walking to school next week with uniforms that don’t fit it won’t be because mum put the savings in R Fed. I find the high moral ground people take on sporting agencies realy weird. Anyway the horse has bolted, you only have to go onto social media to see how much of a following Sportsbet ect have. Banning them from sponsoring teams wouldn’t hurt them one bit.

Anyway, thread back on track.

McDonalds sponsorship does not bring the inegrity of sport into question either. So many issues with gambling in sport. Let people gamble by all means, let them gamble on sport, but sponsorship is a step too far, theres no escape for those not interested or trying to avoid the potentially harmful activity. Some of the telecasts used to be hard to watch at times (NRL) as it all felt like one long ad, I understand when horse racing is constantly talking odds, but it is new to sport and bloody annoying.

Would be genuinely disappointed with the club if this was to occur tbqh
In all honesty I would be pretty disappointed as well.

Ahhk I hadnt heard that but I do agree with it.

I opened up a bit of a can of worms with my pick. As Ive said it is not something I would like to see happen but it is a possibility however slim it may be.

Has anyone suggested Uber as a potential sponsor yet?
I assume you're not being serious, since Uber is a dreadful company (in the sense that business are supposed to be profitable), but Uber would be just as bad as Ubet in an ethical sense.

When did this become the thread for sensible sponsorship options?
I assumed that would start about 15 min after the club announces an actual sponsor

...whereas about 15 nanoseconds after the announcement the "I knew about this but I was sworn to secrecy" posts will begin ;)

How so? Genuine question as I don't see the lack of ethics in Uber but I may be missing something.
