Turning you on fella? :D

At a guess I suspect it might be because they don't want to wear anything heavier than that, but need to have something on up there to hold their GPS units in place.
Wouldn't they be ultra thin strapping then? I think it's for support

His answer on the surgery was less than convincing. Sounds like his body is breaking down
But that was old news, we already know that the surgeries didn't work, that's why he didn't get back to play.

What they tried next was 8 weeks of complete rest, and he reckons that did the trick.

He reckons he feels "rejuvenated" and has done basically a full preseason, so I doubt that would be the case if his groins were still an issue.

As I said at the time, he was one who I was most impressed with at the open training session just before Christmas, and regardless, even if he's not back to his very best, it's going to be great if we have every one of those midfield options fit and available, as it gives us some serious options and flexibility and creates super competition for spots, plus great depth, in case of injuries.

Imagine Stuv for instance no longer having to do the grunt inside work, and being able to have the ball fed to him by others now, then run off with it. That's when he can really hurt teams.

Your guess is as good as mine I'd say!

That interview with Armo is a good one BTW, goes for about 6-7 mins, unlike the 1-2 min ones that don't exactly dig deep.

Lonie was perfectly good in his first season. Played some very good individual games (including 20 disposals and 2 goals 3, 17 disposals (11 contested) and 2 goals, and 18 disposals and a goal, and was generally best 22.
His last two years have been underwhelming to say the least hence his one year contract offer.
no surprise I don't think much was really expected of him when he was picked at 41

Agree, but that's completely different from your original comment that I was responding to, which was:
Lonie has only ever shown he is not up to AFL standards.

Dunstan was underwhelming for the best part of 3 years (after an even better start), but he managed to get his body right and find his mojo again, so perhaps Jack will too.

The main reason he was taken that late by far was his height, like in the cases of Tim Membrey and Caleb Daniel, and to a lesser extent Lewis Taylor, Jade Gresham and this year, Jack Higgins.

He was extremely well performed at U18 level over two years, including winning the MVP award for Vic Country at the Championships in his draft year.

We rated him at 19 on our list according to the Emma Quayle book.

Lonie and these guys Long , McKenzie , Freeman , Mitchington , Wright , Langlands , Paton , Hunter - Clark , Armitage , Battle , Marshall , Rice , White , Phillips , Goddard , Austin , Hickey will all be sweating on one of our best 22 doesn't hold form so they can get a game.

At this point I think White , McKenzie , Long , Phillips , Battle , Goddard , Freeman , Armitage , Austin , Coffield and Hunter will be called before Lonie unless he really excels in the VFL , you never know , he could be one that just comes good - he has had a good preseason so far.

I have heard nothing from Minchington and Wright as well.

He's restricted free agent.. Meaning West Coast can match any offer. Any club wanting him would most certainly have to trade.

And..... no team has ever matched a FA offer.

Ever.

Not even Dangerfield.

Ever.

Didn’t Geelong trade for Dangerfield?

Aaaah pre season optimism. Lonie has only ever shown he is not up to AFL standards.
He is not going to be Milney and will be lucky to get a handful of games this season.
No, not showing afl standards is playing a bunch of games for a handful of possesions with no impact. Lonie has shown many games where he has more then earnt his right to play which was reflected in his rising star nomination. His issue is a lack of consistency and tendency to allow the flaws in his game to overshadow his good qualities. His lack of penetration with kicking and ability to stick impactful tackles are both fixable and from all accounts are being specifically worked on.

the set up i would like to see in preseason

geary - goddard - webster
roberton - carlisle - white
sinclair - steele - steven
battle - mcartin - billings
membery - bruce - long

longer - ross - gresham

dunstan / acres / coffield / newnes

Yeah and everybody who thought he was a bad draft choice a couple of yrs ago are now looking like *****.

People get impatient, like many have said on here before including me.....it takes 4-5 years for most players to come good. Not everyone can impact in their first season a la Cripps, Oliver, Heppell. Ross is a perfect example from struggling to get in the team to a B & F last year

Armitage will be best 22 in the eyes of the selectors and the coaches , bank on it.
If its intended that Lonie be a small forward, your list of names selected before him is terribly wrong.

As i stated, his goal kicking was terribly inaccurate last season, if he'd converted better i'm sure the hate wouldn't be so strong.
His tackle count has increased a lot from his previous two seasons, he will develop as he gets older, and be able to tackle more effectively.
He CAN get the ball.
Anyone who can go out and get hold of it 17 or 18 times regularly as a forward is NOT "clearly not up to AFL standard "
Compare to Long , 6 to 11 touches. Wright 22 in his first game , never more than 16 in 32 other games.
Then there's Minchington, also not so effective as a small forward, and three years older than Lonie.

No if they are picking the teams, they will not pick Goddard as small forward ahead of Lonie.

If they decide to select 3 small forwards, Lonie will be 4th in line to start the season most likely. If they select 4 small forwards, like they did most of 2017, Lonie will be part of the 22. He could conceivably leap frog Weller into 3rd on the depth chart behind Billings and Gresham. If they want to give Gresham (or potentially Billings) more midfield time, then Lonie will definitely be best 22.
