Kinda mad it wasn't dry. Oh well. Won the contested possession and moved the ball far better when it was dry which gives me confidence going forward. I guess you could say we were efficient from scoring from forward opportunities, we locked it up and kept it there, just couldn't get it through the big sticks.
I don't really feel like I know any more about us than I did before coming away from this game. I feel pretty much the same as I did before. Not pessimistic, but I feel like this year will be another development year only there is light at the end of the tunnel this time.

Yep. I think no ones preconceptions about us will be changed too much by this game. If you are expecting us to be shit, you’ll hyperfocus on the scoreboard and the wasting of opportunities. If you are expecting us to improve significantly you’ll focus on the scoring shots, level of physical competitiveness, periods where we controlled the game and some other statistical areas of dominance.

If you’re expecting steady, but not unrealistically high improvement as would befit a young, inexperienced side, the whole picture of the game definitely supports that. Like you Pulpdriver, that’s the camp I’m in.

Zorko looks primed for another big year. 33 possessions, 1 goal and 6 tackles. Rayner showed great endeavour with 13 possessions, 9 tackles and 2 behinds. McCluggage and Berry also did their bit with 18 possessions and 15 possessions respectively. Special mentions to Bell who had 20 possessions and 9 tackles and Robinson who had 20 possessions and 7 tackles. Martin, Taylor and Lester were all good as well.

Mayes hasn’t done a whole lot. You’d think his spot would come under pressure with plenty of backline options.
Why don't we drop Hipwood and Christensen too while we're at it.
And

And our leading goal scorer was a midfielder. We’re still without a target up there. Walker is impotent and Hipwood is a green, burst player.
Yes and we still manufactured 100+ scores anyway. That wasn't an accident.

Yes, only the select few will know how to read this result right.

Taylor was the cleanest player out there by miles, it was like he was playing on a different ground.

Please. We finished bottom of the ladder, won four games and didn’t have a functioning forward line. I’m not shocked we haven’t grown one over summer, but it’s cleary still an issue.

Generally a reasonable game with the obvious negatives such as inaccuracy and lack of composure. Nice to be competitive around the ball, and I can imagine our game being a lot better in the dry, but we definitely still have some passengers (noting it is only pre-season of course.)

Interesting Matho didn't get any game time. Would've thought the conditions were a chance for him to shine, probably suggests he's not in line for round 1.

No more 80 points down at half time. Remember that Port game and that Collingwood game where we were completely non-competitive.

No more of those means we have improved

Lol, Dwayno saying the Suns have been brilliant to keep two teams to less than 4 goals.

Let's see how their season pans out if they gift their opponent 8 more scoring shots every week.

That shows a fundamental lack of understanding how modern footy is played.

Did he play yesterday in the 2's? I don't remember him being mentioned so must have been emergency for the day. Surprising as I certainly would have him ahead of a few that played today

Because they’re our 2 most dangerous forwards and we have nobody to replace them with while we have about a dozen back flanks.

You seem like you are itching to ignite a fight and as a result are reading things into posts that aren't there.

We were 13th in points for. What more do you want?

Yup, the last two premierships have been won by teams that weren't great offensively for most of the year and manufactured the right forward setup at when it mattered.

The point is that your knee-jerk reactions are dumb and no one wants to read them.

I find that by paying attention to how the game is played, then I actually have some accurate insight to offer.

Not that I read. Barrett did so I guess there's some sense he didn't play. Matho didn't play minutes in either.

Saints have no chance against us. No way! We will thrash them. Probably end up kicking 18 goals 3 behinds.

They’re not knee jerk though. Just because I’m posting it after the game doesn’t mean it’s based solely off one game. That’s your assumption. We’ve picked up Hodge, Witherden has been impressive, Robertson played well down there last season and Rich has found consistency. You can’t possibly think he won’t be under pressure.

Biggest psotiive to come out of today is no injuries. It was a typical wet weather game. Scrappy skills, lot's of free kicks, a few lucky goals, lot's of soccer kicks. Not too much we can read into that one. I thought we did see some great endeavour from some of the young guns, however, e.g. Rayner, McCluggage and Berry and the likes of Zorko, Taylor, Robinson and Bell all played well. Main things to take out of today are no injuries and the fact that we got some miles into the legs of the boys, particularly guys like Robinson and Christensen who will be better for the run.

Strange comment. Would've thought POBT is one of our more adept amateur analysts and one of our best posters. No reason to deride his opinion. Unless you were being sincere?
