would depend what share he actually had in it but yeah he must have spent alot to be broke. but then you have to wonder why he was lodging dodgy blokes trafficing drugs in his house.

$5-$10mill was just his share! Massive windfall

I don't buy this idea he ran out of money or something or had debts.

A lot of people have lots of money, a nice house to live in and others to sustain a good easy lifestyle, and a job that's a decent mix of easy and enough to keep you occupied. And yet they still want more money and through a heady mix of ego and opportunity feel happy enough to take the gamble. I lean toward the latter than anything else.

More likely he liked the lifestyle and the folks he'd be hanging out with.

Divorce would have cost half but didnt he make mills selling some land recently ???
Who knows what the hell he did with it? Snorted it? I dunno. I guess the truth, or some semblance of truth, will come out soon enough.

Jeans kicked him out of Hawthorn for being a loose cannon , was suggested he was on the Horse then.
Jeans didn’t really kick Ablett out, & Hawthorn didn’t really want him to go. Ablett was charged with grievous bodily harm at the end of 1982 in some possibly drug-related circumstances. He barely escaped jail, and after living & playing footy in the country in 1983 he didn’t want to go back to Hawthorn, but Geelong still had to pay a transfer fee. It shouldn’t be forgotten that Hawthorn wanted him back after that as well, in fact he signed a contract with them for season 1988 and beyond, but changed his mind.

Which goes to show people will forgive a lot when dealing with footballers who are particularly good at football.

Honestly though Bomber must have earnt plenty of money over the years in the football industry. Why would he put his hand up to be a drug trafficker?
Sometime people just like to do thing when other don't think they will do it .

Yeah that's fine, Cousins finished his football career a junkie and did **** all.

Thompson became a senior coach, won 2 premierships and made 7 million from one property deal in 2010 and shit-loads more since then.

He was filthy rich.

And got paid for four years of coaching at Essendon. That's serious six figure money we're talking about here. The man was ****ing rolling in it.

Yeah, true. Don't underestimate some people's obsession with feeling like a bad boy too. Some of those guys at the Eagles got a kick from it, tv perthonalities too, get a kick from hanging around some bloke in a leather jacket all the while forgetting these are people who don't really have mates. It's not too different to the kid at high school who likes everyone knowing he's gone to parties when no one else has.

how do you know that was his share. He could have just been the front man and put in very little $$$ to begin with.

400k for 6.9mil return. Clinton Casey's brother was the front man.

Cousins was earning huge money in the early to mid 2000s. 10 years later he doesn't have two bob to rub together. Even if bomber made that money he has had plenty of time to spend it. Maybe he isn't broke yet, but thats only a matter of time.

Mate of mine did 4 years for trafficking. Had no reason to do it- his family was worth millions, so he never had to worry about a house or a job- he just got off on the rush of it all. Status too probably, along with the free drugs & other perks.

Fair to say he lived to regret his decision.

Just sad how his life has turned upside down I'll never forget seeing him shed a tear after the loss to North in the final bloke wanted nothing but Essendon to do well.
His life is a sum total of choices he’s made.

had a similar mate who loved the whole concept of drug running etc. he was Asian came from a very conservative family. Has done two stretches now for trafficking and offences relating to the drugs trade.

For Bomber i'm guessing supply was quite important if he was using a shitload you need some good connections.

Probably been in the limelight so long that he thought he was invincible and could get away with anything. Also probably couldnt adapt to not having the same paychecks rolling in once his footy and media career went down the toilet.
