Parto had a pretty big day out. Led the game for disposals (33) and equal first for inside 50s (5) & tackles (7), definitely thought he was EPs best from what I saw. Seems to be working really hard on his tackling/overall defence.

From best to worst, from my POV...for what it's worth I think all of our guys were pretty good today.

Oscar Allen - 17 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles, 1 i50
Was surprisingly clean below his knees for a big man. Was the best game I've seen him play. Was confident with the ball in hand and judged the ball well in the air. Hopefully he doesn't stay down back for too long.

Luke Partington - 33 disposals, 4 marks, 7 tackles, 5 i50s, 1.0
A solid game. Was good in and under and ran hard all game. Capped it off with a nice goal late.

Fraser McInnes - 15 disposals, 3 marks, 6 tackles, 28 HOs, 3 i50s, 1.1
Tireless. Presented hard all day. Would take marks off for Swan's ruckman being BOG but I think he did most of his best work against Blee. Is a great player to have on the list as back up for many years to come.

Francis Watson - 22 disposals, 5 marks, 5 tackles, 2 i50s
When he is good, he's very good. But one great example of his inconsistency was when he spilled a mark in the third and it went out the back for the Swans to take it down field. Had to do the team thing and spoil it back into our 50 so we could lock it in. He's a very rough diamond and I'm not yet convinced he'll be polished enough to make the grade. I hope he does!

Jack Petruccelle - 14 disposals, 1 mark, 2 tackles, 3 i50s, 3.0
A good effort from the skinny fella. Didn't get many chances to show his pace but competed well in the air throughout the day. Rewarded well with three good goals to keep the pressure on the blokes in the seniors. X-Factor personified.

Matthew Allen - 13 disposals, 7 marks, 3 tackles, 4 i50s, 2.0
One of the many who worked into the game well. Floated around down back and up front and made solid contributions wherever he went. Did his best work up forward and kicked a ripper from 55.

Jackson Nelson - 17 disposals, 6 marks, 2 tackles, 4 i50s
Thought he worked into the game pretty well in the second half. Surprised to see he only ended with a couple of tackles, as they must have been the couple that stuck in my mind. Probably needs to start dominating WAFL games a bit more, especially in tough conditions.

Jarrod Brander - 13 disposals, 4 marks, 1 tackle, 1 i50, 0.1
Worked into it well in the third quarter. Not a game for the tall forwards, but he presented up consistently. A good match for his development.

Callan England - 13 disposals, 4 marks, 1 tackle
A solid effort from a skinny young thing. Needs to hit the gym hard, and has an awkward handball technique. Was pretty evasive in tight.

Kurt Mutimer - 17 disposals, 4 marks, 5 tackles, 1 i50
Maybe it's just me, but I never notice Mutimer when I watch East Perth. He never seems to have much of an influence on games, and this pattern continued today for me.

Josh Rotham - 9 disposals, 3 marks, 1 tackle, 2 i50s
Needs to bulk up a bit, but hopefully not too much, as I think his agility is the best thing he has going for him. A bit of an inbetween player. Unsure where he will fit in at AFL level.

Tarir Bayok - 17 disposals, 3 marks, 7 tackles
Think his stats flatter him a bit in the end. As I posted earlier, his opponent outpositioned him consistently in the third quarter and then numerous errors in the second half overall smeared his game somewhat. The effort is there, as shown by his tackle count. Needs to back himself more.

Nathan Vardy - 4 disposals, 1 mark, 20 HOs, 1.0
Tough first game back from injury. Presented well, but not much went his way today. Will be better for the run.

Given his tank, ability to lead up and aerial prowess I'd compare Brander to a young Nick Riewoldt.

I thought the same thing seeing his under 18 footage. Will take overhead marks around the ground all day

You don't leave a young Nick Riewoldt in the WAFL. You push him up the curve, even if he is not obviously best 22.

You'd have to drop one of Kennedy, Darling or Waterman, otherwise they would have thrown him in already from the sounds. Am super stoked he signed for another couple of years, so there's no pressure to get him in before he starts looking elsewhere. Simmo has been saying he'll get a game at some stage, maybe if waterman or Kennedy has a rest

He didn't play that much in the ruck. Blee took a fair portion of it, which surprised me, along with McInnes.

He might get a game in round 23. The AFL expects us to travel to Brisbane in the final round. Can't see us sending a strong team for that game, unless we desperately have to win.

What do you suggest? Imo going in with 4 tall forwards isn't going to work so we're going have to wait for injury/form drop off of one of those three to force them out. And then we better hope Oscar Allen turns into a midfielder and we'll probably have to resign ourselves to Matthew Allen leaving.

Excuses, he performed far inferior to the other talls in the game. A lot of it isn't even related to touches, he also got outbodied by smaller opponents.

I'm not anti-Vardy, I just don't think he's very good. He's competent at best IMO.

There were legitimate reasons why he wasn't at his best. But there are also legitimate reasons for him to be better than he was - that is the part that Eagles fans seem to be glossing over.

Partington didn't seem to play that selfish style you think he plays, yesterday. Kicked a nice goal, didn't think he was too prevalent though.

Brander looks very good, for a young bloke. Runs hard all day, runs to the right spot, competes.

Rotham - looked OK, needs more bulk on the frame.

Petrucelle - looked good in bursts.

Vardy, bog average, Notte loved it when he was down forward.

O Allen - looked OK in patches, butchered the ball a bit across half back though.

M Allen - also looked good in patches, presented around the ground a lot.

McInnes - typical Fraser game, thought he was good without being a standout. Got frustrated as the game went on and tried to take someone's head off in the last.

Nelson - didn't notice but my son thought he was alright.

Bayok - thought was OK, nothing outstanding, typical Tarir, looks good with the ball in hand, the kick looks great off the boot but it largely goes nowhere.

I reckon we could see what happens with four talls. It's not like Darling and Waterman are lumbering or immobile. Our tall forwards have exceptional workrate and mobility. We could therefore carry someone like Brander for a few games in the interests of accelerating his development. Or give him a run as a third tall in defence.
