Buckley pulled Collingwood apart to rebuild the culture, knowing that the shit Malthouse turned a blind eye to, or made token insincere stands against, throughout his career, was no longer going to cut it as pressure to behave off field continued to rise in the AFL.

It (not unexpectedly) resulted in diminished returns on field.

He needs to be judged including more than the basic W/L figures.

Don’t know about that. They both remind me of each other in a way, little bit sooky when things don’t go their way but when they’re on they are very hard to stop. If they both just played football they’d be the two best fwd/mids in the comp. Was half looking at it from a fantasy POV, looking at bringing him in this week and don’t want it going down the same path as Robbie.
Do 'they' all look the same to you?

Two traditional elements that should be removed from the game. Centre bounces and red footballs. There's absolutely no good reason for red footballs to still be used in any time slot, especially in winter when dark conditions tend to prevail.
As a blue eyed red/green colour blind person I couldn't agree more. The Alice Springs game was bad with green treed background.
Yellow balls every game. It's the most instantly recognised colour for all people. IIRC I read once that colour blindness affects a smidge
under 20% of the male population. Rare with women and brown eyed people.

It's the ball colour for all occasions. But Robert Walls might get upset if we do away with red balls.....or something...

What are you on about? Link?

A caller called into 5cc this morning claiming Chad Wingard was using some kind of aboriginal magic potion to fix his dodgy hammy.
it's all in the Media Shakes head thread.

Freeman and Scharenburg's issues with their bodies were known on draft day. That's just a poor strategy and a gamble on Collingwoods part, and it may remain unknown forever what they would have done without injuries. Freeman in particular may have just fizzled. At the time his type was all the rage due mainly to Dangerfield. Blinding speed doesn't make you an instant champion.

So comparing them to a pair of tried at true players, one a duel AA, is pretty strange.
Don't forget Wells.

Who woulda thought...

Robbo calling for more draft picks handed to GCS. Just let them fold. No one cares. It's not like they have fans....

Draft picks will not help, it sends them further into the mire of thinking they don't have to try as they will just get everything handed to them. Tough love is not just a phrase, it's a reality and GCS will do better standing on their own two feet.

My heart bleeds for Collingwood. Their standing as a big Victorian club has seen them collect some very good ready made players from GWS in particular. Would have helped with the acquisition of Cox too.

He also made some rumblings about "performance enhancing substances..."

Surprised he didn’t add in Chinese Medicine and Motlop Indigenous food company in his list of wild accusations

They shouldn't get picks, another bunch of youngsters without any older players to help them is just going to perpetuate the issues there. I wouldn't give them anything, they will get enough picks to do something useful, if they use wisely.

However if they do get picks, they should only be given them on the proviso that they have to trade them for players who have played at least 50 games. Something like (if it was been done), an end of first round and end of third round pick for 2018 and 2019. GWS getting in more older bodies and wiser heads has helped them get somewhere (despite a poor coach), where as GC outside Ablett, who clearly didn't give a **** whilst there, they went mostly for youth and battered aside too easily year after year.

At the game, for reasons I'm not exactly sure about (Goodwin's coaching, Levers injury, laziness or a combination of the three), Melbourne's transition defence against Collingwood was abysmal.
The reason Collingwood had so many easy forward entries was because as soon as they got the ball in their backline, they would have spare men all over the ground. It seemed to me that Melbourne players would be crowded around the ball, kind of in a no-mans land.

Talk of Collingwood being a contender this year just reaffirms the notion that 2018 is wide open for Port to go all the way.
Our list is up there with Richmond and West Coast and better than Crows, demons, magpies, Sydney and the rest.
I got a funny feeling that we will be hot and cold for a couple of months and then flick the switch in September. We are winning games without being near our best which is a good sign
I wanna believe this but my reality check is the foot skills of our mids and our flakey goal kicking.

Absolutely. The Dogs are 100% our concern right now. We can't afford to lose this one.

Theres no doubt the Melbourne game shapes as season defining, as everytime weve been presented with one of these big games that'll have a massive effect on ours and competitors ladder position we lose, BUT, if we lose to a refreshed Bulldogs outfit after their bye, we again find a way to blow our season to shreds.
Predicted weather won't suite the Doggie's game style (I hope). Flipping it around and hand balling as much as they do.
