Even accounting for injuries, Im not feeling a premiership winning back six on our list. Hence I said it is still a problem.

No way Id be happy with us paying $1 mil for Shiel. Not a million a season player IMO.
Looked pretty strong last year. A lot of the performance of the backline is due to the influence of the midfield. Less defensive inside 50s, and entries under more pressure, equals a better backline.

Shiel has had more than enough opportunity at the Giants to prove he’s the guy.
He simply isn’t.
The club has lost the plot if they trade pick 1 for him.

Interesting seeing Lynch ruled out for the year today.
I was speaking to someone on the weekend whose mail on Lynch is well placed and he said:
a) his knee is no good.
b) all the talk is he has signed for 7 years at Richmond.
c) he personally isn't convinced about that and knows he had dinner with Ed over the bye.
d) he won't be at GC
e) May also wants out and will try to break his contract
e) shocked me.
We'll see.

I just can’t see SOS trading a top 3 pick, much less pick 1, unless the offer is outrageously and unequivocally in Carlton’s favour. He would rightly be expecting this to be the last time in a long time that we would have a draft pick that high. Then factor in the quality of a player selected this year at that pick, it doesn’t make sense in any way.
If a deal for Shiel is done this year I can see next year’s first being the centrepiece.

Look at the Dogs and Tigers, Rance is the only standout. Think Doc is comparable
