I suspect so much of what SoS wants to do hinges on having the number 1 pick. Have pick 2 and everything changes - you just select Walsh and have to work so hard for any mature agers (Tyson etc.). Just how much will Carlton push to remain last in what is really a pivotal draft/trade year. Bolton wont want a wooden spoon as that goes down recorded in history against his name. SoS will have a different view. Last or second last. The draft/trade benefit scenario differs wildly based on one spot!

This year, number 1 is worth more than any other recent year because of the hype on Luko and because Adelaide have quite a few picks to get a deal done. I bet they would be willing to give up a lot to land the Rankine/Luko duo...giving up first round picks plus next year's first. They might do package deals with other clubs before coming to Carlton with what we want (that is, if we hold pick 1).

SoS will have a boner right now but as soon as we win a game, all that changes!

We have to win a game first.
Brisbane belted us last year and I can't see that changing this year.
They can at least hit the scoreboard and we have just lost Plowman.
That means we are missing 7 players that were part of the defensive group last year; Docherty, Plowman, Williamson, ASOS, Marchbank, Macreadie and Byrne.
Marchbank will play soon but it will take a while for him to build some form.
I am not a pessimist but it's hard to see how we will avoid pick 1, especially with having such a poor percentage.

Richards is almost irrelevant as long as LOB turns into a good player that's all that matters.
What I don't get is how people say you shouldn't judge them yet but than you go over to the draft board and they can seem so matter of fact about what draftees we should take, even though people would have seen more of LOB and Richards than they have of any of the draftees.

Well, some get antsy if others point out flaws in their posts but we have to remember that we are not pros and it's just an opinion board.

The landscape will change so much that half these guys mentioned will disappear into obscurity.

Let's support SoS in what he has done so far. He deserves support. WHs, well, that is another matter!

Yeah I'm guilty of it. But last year it was spp and this year he's come back to the pack a bit.

Look at the Bontempelli, Merrett and Cripps 'big 3' thread on the main board. This time last year it was a dick-measuring contest between Bulldogs and Essendon supporters.....with Cripps a distant third place !!!

Yes, SOS is a snob. He’s a Marcelin boy choosing a Geelong Grammar boy (who was there on scholarship) over a Carey grammar boy.

And LOB has worked very hard to get to where he is. Don’t pot the kid. He could end up better than Richards.

Freo currently has picks 6, 78 and then the last picks in the draft. They will want a number of higher draft picks.

Have heard that they're one club that doesn't give a crap about the draft this year. They've cashed in their chips to make their list better. Would not be surprised if this continued. In so called Super Drafts there's always a team who tries to go the other way to take advantage of other teams overvaluing it.
