They can't give them pick 1 as compo. Band 1 is the pick directly after your first pick.

Pick 1 strictly off the table. Lukosious is a must.

100% focus on Gaff as FA.

Next year Shiel as a FA.

I would really, really like to get Shiel this year, just to go into next year with more run and strength in the midfield. And also to remove the whole bidding war thing that will happen next year. I also agree with the arguments to not trade pick 1 for him as well. I guess I am seduced by the hype of the Lukosius talk as well. However, In the back of my mind, I am thinking how much better can he be compared to how Charlie is travelling ATM? If the answer is 'better than Charlie' then trading pick one is not an option, but if the answer if 'yeah probably equal to', then maybe it should be at least considered, if we can can get Shiel and their first. I know on the fence

From memory, this time three years ago Schache was seen as the best forward of the draft, followed by Weideman, and Charlie was just a talented but injured utility who might play midfield.
Lukosius has more hype than Schache, for whatever that's worth.

Not making the assumption either. Mentioning the trading of pick 1 for Shiel, does not mean that will be the exact deal, I am sure SOS would want a hell of a lot more to part with it, whether GWS will come to the party is another matter

Perhaps SOS is starting to let generic information out to create greater interest from multiple clubs if we finish with pick 1. Letting the world know that we are open to trading an early pick for a deal that involves Shiel among other things.

Could you imagine both SA clubs, thinking that they could be in with a shot to recruit one of the best players in the draft. Create more demand for something you hold and the offers could be really surprising

Yeah that's all well and good. But the original argument was that the club (including SOS) said they'd be targetting ready made players with premium picks.

That might be the case, but there's nothing concrete to suggest it is. Going by the article you posted, SOS does not at any stage say we'd be doing that. He's playing intelligent mind games, leaving the door ajar to see how desperate some clubs might be for the #1 pick. But there is nothing about us specifically going out of our way to target ready made players such as Shiel with our #1 pick. That is purely just speculation at this stage.

Oh you haven't heard of band screw Carlton? Its the band that'll be invented once GC lose Lynch and we're set for the top pick in a strong draft. Band screw Carlton compensation means GC get pick #1.

I know, just filling in time waiting for a parent/teacher interview. OK my view boils down to this. If Lukosious is seen or projected as being a much better prospect than what Charlie is doing ATM then lets get him. But if not, then Charlie goes OK, so what can we get instead because the role is occupied (I thought I changed my mind 5 times )

Good point you make on griffin/deledio theres a mill salary cap space cleared out right there .
I too wouldnt think its a given anybody gets him for free at the end of next year picks wise after taking that into account .

Yeah wouldn't mind him he's a bit of a gun, would hate to break the bank on a player like him though, too inconsistent and his profile makes him expensive even if we do get him as a FA he'd expect big bucks likely.

Bit overrated for me though.

If we can get him on 600-700 as a FA that would be great, unlikely though.

That is the worst case scenario. Even still, pick #1 this year has more value then the first pick we get next year even if its pick #1 again.

But we have the capacity to offer him something so ridiculous that GWS will have to let go of him. Don't forget they have a shit load of players they have ro re-sign next year, including Kelly and Cogs.

GC would probably get the compo pick as well. Meaning they may end up with 1, 4, 5 etc

Yeah, he went on a media blitz a week or so ago. He said the club was open to improving the list with a focus on free agents (which was always the plan after the 3 years of hitting the draft),

He did bemoan the difficulty of getting in free agents to bottom clubs.

He said nothing about trading pick 1 for Shiel.
