Yeah that's all well and good. But the original argument was that the club (including SOS) said they'd be targetting ready made players with premium picks.

That might be the case, but there's nothing concrete to suggest it is. Going by the article you posted, SOS does not at any stage say we'd be doing that. He's playing intelligent mind games, leaving the door ajar to see how desperate some clubs might be for the #1 pick. But there is nothing about us specifically going out of our way to target ready made players such as Shiel with our #1 pick. That is purely just speculation at this stage.

If we are going back to the original point, you wanted a link, that stated/eluded to the possibility of us trading an early pick for an established player.

The article and many within the club have all sung from the same hymn book

Just because it may not suit your or my preference, doesn't mean it should be disregarded

you're assuming no AFL interjection and a PP for GC before round 1.
Gold Coast will get a very good compo pick for Lynch, possibly pick 2. AFL will likely add a PP as well for them but it would create massive outrage if that were a pick before round 1, it will be end of first round.

I wouldn't disregard it if it actually contained something of substance...

There is plenty of substance, you just don't want to accept the possibility, which is also understandable

No there isn't. Literally all he said (paraphrasing) in regards to our top pick is that the door is open for some offers.

Nothing about trading premium picks for ready made players. Had he said something like "We'll be after some ready made players and will be happy to trade our top picks if the right player came along" then there'd be some substance to it.

All he's doing is testing the waters. He knows how highly rated this year's draft is, so he'll see if anyone wants to do something stupid and sell the farm for the #1 pick. That is the only chance we have of losing pick #1. He certainly won't be trading #1 for Shiel + #13 and that article doesn't say anything to suggest otherwise.

I accept the possibility, I don't accept that the club has stated it.

Honestly, my footballing despair has meant I haven't followed things as closely as usual. That said, adding the two best mids for the year is comfortably more valuable than (at best) another Charlie curnow or nick riewoldt.

Yip ….. and that will build depth ;)

Silvagni said the club would consider all of its trade and free agency options at the end of the season, including passing on its top pick for a contracted star such as Shiel.

While admitting the Blues’ youngsters would need time to develop, Liddle said it was important the Blues targeted more experienced players.

“We’re really comfortable with what we’ve drafted, but we definitely need to balance bringing kids in with bringing in some mature-age players with bigger bodies,” he said.

It had want to be a damn Penfolds Grange selection if we are using Pick 1/2 or 3 … Az

Rudy, you know I have never rated Brodie, and nothing he has done thus far would convince me otherwise

But, I am open to seeing what transpires

Scrimshaw I can see value in ….. Brodie … no thanks. Meat and spuds.

I don't have to read it again, Jay Clark interprets it that way to make his article sound more interesting. If Silvagni actually said that he'd have it there in quotes no doubt.

As for Liddle's comments, where does he talk about trading our top pick?

I am not advocating we trade pick 1 or 2, in fact the complete opposite, but you should always be open to offers

I would not give up Shiel + 9 for pick 1 when it was suggested, the deal has to be considerably better than that, for me to entertain it
