The finish in the Emmaus v Powerhouse was amazing.

Sounded controversial? (per VAFA write up)
Powerhouse player had a shot after the siren to win from 50m on the boundary kicked it goal umpire awarded a goal only to be over ruled by the field umpire while the powerhouse boys were celebrating it was a farce. Protest lodged now up to the vafa umpires ruined a great game all day.

Which umpire ruined it?

VAFA Field or the Powerhouse Club goalie who accidentally put up 2 fingers?

The Eye

Wow, you'd want to be damn sure as an umpire to overrule a goal umpire!!!

No surprise one of the umpires involved

On the YV v WF game, YV have a great home ground advantage, going to be an interesting run home as I think they play all the top sides at home. They have a good game plan for their ground, but finals are usually played on the bigger grounds.

High scoring, but thats due to being 2 kicks from end to end. WF definitely have a bit of work to do

Umpiring was pretty good which was a nice change, only downside was a change in interpretations in the 2nd half but throughout the day they put the whistle away, let the game flow, first half paid more HTB than 2nd half, but overall a big improvement on the over umpired games so often seen at this level.

This is why the VAFA needs to make goalies a priority in all senior men divisions as it can make or break a game the decisions that they make and when there are volunteers from either team, a fair level of "cheating" goes on.
Rarely see a field umpire brave enough to overturn a volunteer goalie, so if the field umpire made the right decision, then good on him I say!

So I assume the protest was dismissed on the Powerhouse v ESL game?

Tips for this week
Bulleen Temp
Emmaus to get 2 in a row
Yarra
OP’s
UHS-VU in match of the day

Would be interesting to hear why the field ump chose to overturn the decision then? Did Powerhouse really sing the song after the game even though they lost?
Pretty sure the goal umpire was blind sighted and couldn’t see anything with all the players in front of him. Field umpire clearly saw multiple players get to the ball before the line.

That ump was 50 metres away and it was the St Leo's ump that called it a goal, enough said , he couldn't even cheat it was that much a goal.

I think the song part is true, and also that they all stormed off without sticking around to shake hands after the decision was overturned

My thoughts, with 7 games remaining, on the only genuine finals chances;
OP's - Excellent start to season but struggling over the last few weeks. Will need to regain some form to maintain top 2 position.
UHS - Rock solid year with only one blemish. Well organised with strong on-ball division. What is their achilles heel? Forward line?
YV - Improving as the year progresses and will be a key player in the finals. Defence a weakness?
Friars - Solid start but in midst of a mini mid season slump. Need to get their young group believing in themselves again.
Plenty of upside although UHS may have their measure.
MHSOB - Poor start to year but on the improve. Cant be taken lightly. Have a few players from 2017 returned?

Discuss?

None of the top 5 clash this week so a win by any of those teams in the relegation zone will be a bonus.

What does it mean?

It means you really need to get out a bit more often.

Top 3 seem pretty settled but 4th seems up for grabs.

Friars probably too strong and Yarra, UHS & Parade too far ahead to miss. Unicorns have got plenty of players back though it seems so anything could happen.

Unicorns have to play all the top 4 in the final 6 games so will earn it if they make it! Yarra still have Parade, UHS and MHSOB in the final 6. Friars play Parade and MHSOB of the top 5.

It will all come down to who gets the most players back after the bye and can start putting their best side out there in the run home

Yarra are the team to beat for mine - super strong outfit that have found even better form in the second half of the year - they won't miss.

If there are any changes it will be the Unicorns winning 5 of the 6 games (lose to Yarra), and Friars losing to both Parade and MHSOB allowing a change in 4th/5th. But again unlikely - just trying to make things interesting!

we do not get much inside information scribbled about the friars here these days. so from an outsiders perspective it is hard to feel confidently about their footy capacity. are they a genuine flag chance or not a serious finals contender?

Ive seen Whitefriers a couple of times and if they make the 4 they can do some damage on the big grounds because they run hard forward.

Melbourne High play three of the top four in the next three games. If they make the four they’ve earned their spot. Could come down to the last game against Yarra Valley to see who makes it.
St. John’s v Emmaus last round could shape relegation also
