And fancy having three consecutive #1 picks yet for whatever reason, none of them graduated to stardom, let alone that elite handful of players in the comp.

View attachment 535991

• Andrew Walker pinnacle: 2004 Rising Star nominee

• Bryce Gibbs pinnacle: 2014 Best & Fairest

• Matthew Kreuzer pinnacle: 2008 Rising Star nominee

Edit: whoops, Walker was 'only' a pick #2 (who was given the #1, no pressure!).

• Marc Murphy pinnacle: 1 x AFLCA POTY(!)
Just goes to show number1 picks won’t win you premierships especially when there surrounded by more spuds than you’ll find in a pack of Smith’s chips.
Need to go back to the good old days of most money wins.

Any word on assistants movements?
My fear is the club will go 'We don't want instability during a finals campaign, so we're reappointing them all'. Screw that. Voss, Nicks, Greaves, Lade I'd be happy for all to walk tomorrow, if we don't renew and they want to crack a tanty.

Sooooo, reading Kane Cornes’ Twitter, some Crows peanut complains about Kane writing that Sloane should take over from Tex as captain, saying he should say the same thing about Boak (he has), and is called out for faking his own death on BigFooty

I went down this rabbit hole and read the entire Alex_is_on_fire fake death thread, man I’m out of the loop and I was unaware of all this, I haven’t laughed so hard in ages

Alexisonfire are an awful band too

Highly recommend the thread where he claims Ports posters rang up his Mum in the middle of the night and threatened him and shit.

Even after that faked death fiasco, those mouth-breathing, bottom-feeding, oxygen-thieving CHUDs choose to believe it actually happened.

F@%king imbeciles lol...

No. Change is coming.

"Port Power rule!"

The Crouch brothers 5AA segment has to be as boring as any segment on Australian radio sports programs. I can tolerate a lot of crap, but they both are just so bland and boring as bat shit and Rowe and Bickley dont help. **** I'd rather listen to Jerker Jenkins talk crap about US sports, as at least it has some redeeming features to it. Obviously the crows have to get their ASA deals up to keep them both, and AA are happy to oblige them.

Alex Johnson confirmed to play his first game since the 2012 grand final.

Unbelievable story of perseverance, hope he does well :thumbsu:

Read the Guardian story on it and “perseverance” is exactly the word that came to mind. Incredible!

It seems to me - and to be absolutely clear this is no criticism of the Swans - the last few years of COLA allowed the Swans the luxury of even thinking of carrying Alex on their list through many recoveries. Credit to them for... persevering... even as various battles were fought over trade restrictions during the “twilight of the COLAs” post 2014.

Is there a place for a “super”-LTI-aligned salary cap allowance for such situations or is it all just too complicated?

Clubs have used the rookie list in the past to “park” extremely-LTI players but that was more about freeing up an eligible playing list spot, not about cap room, and rookie list is soon to be no more. Trying to think of other similar cases maybe that Polak bloke from Richmond?

Ah yes, Jared Polak. Commentators love him.

The cows have come out and said that they will not give up on finals until it is mathematically possible. I assume neither will their tame paper or TV channel.
Once Adelaide has lost the Showdown the most likely way Adelaide could get in is if Sydney lose all their games, which on current form is a possibility. But if they do lose all their games then both Hawthorn(44) and Melbourne(44) will be on at least 48 points and with their 20% advantage will be in the eight. So another would have to drop out and that would have to be Geelong. But with their last two games being Freo and Gold Coast at GMHBA I can't see that happening.
The only other way I can see Adelaide making finals is if we lose all our games including the Showdown and Sydney lose 3 of their games and beat GWS at Spotless.
So the old phrase. Two chances - none and Buckley's.

Assistant coaches sacking begin. Today 1st August is the day the coaches association has asked clubs to let know the assistants what is happening. But you cant expect sides who could still play finals tell their blokes they are sacked and expect them to keep putting in a maximum effort for the last 4 weeks.

ST KILDA has informed three assistant coaches they will not be required for 2019 as the club prepares for sweeping changes in its football department. Simon McPhee (senior midfield assistant), Rohan Welsh (senior forward assistant) and Lindsay Gilbee (defensive assistant) have been told to look for new jobs next season.

It comes on the August 1 deadline day, put in place by the AFL Coaches Association, when clubs are told to give assistant coaches an indication on their future.......

Freo persisted with Anthony Morabito for a fair while - he played a full season in 2010, no games in 11, 12 and 13 and 3 in 2014.

Did he have 4 knee reco's whilst at Freo, or was the 4th one after he was delisted?

This para from his Wiki entry suggests a fourth reco while at Freo, without actually saying it:

Return to senior football
After 1369 days and three knee re-constructions, Morabito returned in Round 16 of the 2014 season against Melbourne in Darwin. Coming on as the substitute, Morabito showed promising signs he could re-capture the form shown in his first season, collecting 8 disposals in just over a quarter of football. The substitute rule did not exist the last time Morabito had played for Fremantle.

After missing all of 2015, he was delisted in October, however, he was re-drafted in the 2016 rookie draft.[23] He was however, delisted again at the conclusion of the 2016 season after failing to play an AFL match during the season.[24]

In 2017 Morabito joined Claremont in the West Australian Football League (WAFL).

Sam Mitchell leaving the Eagles back to Victoria unsurprisingly.

What a waste of time that was for the Eagles. Just a stepping stone.

What a waste of pick 88.

I reckon they'll get over it.

So Hawks weren’t really doing WC any altruistic favours ..just parking Mitchell out of their salary cap for a year at another club until they were ready to have him back as an assistant.
