Ugh

"the range of suggestions from all clubs"

I'm just factually telling it like it was.
It's pretty simple really.

It was high.
Intentional.
Off the ball.

Cameron's was classed as high, intentional and contesting the ball. He got 5.

If you think an off the ball incident like this gets anything less than 7 to 8 weeks (if he is lucky) then you are crazy.
Especially with the outcry at the moment over coward punches.

Then theres the whole broken jaw etc.

And I'm not really believing that range. I was here around that time an they were all(besides eagles fans) 7+.

You condone what Gaff did? Are you sure thats what you meant to say?
Of course. In what world would I think punching someone off the ball is okay ? I'm talking the logistics . Should Houli have assault charges laid upon him ? As I said this would create a mess in the AFL where there are lots of bumps and bruises from hits on and off the ball.

I posted during the 4th quarter whilst listening to the derby on radio, before the outrage entertained ideas of "10". At the time, 3-7 was the range of suggestions from all posters of all clubs.

Where do you see it sit in the list of these incidents?

Solomon elbow on ling - 8 weeks
Hall punch on staker - 7 weeks
Bugg punch on Mills - 6 weeks
Cameron elbow on Andrews - 5 weeks
Houli punch on Lamb - 4 weeks
Nyhius tackle on Gray - 3 weeks

For me it sits with Hall. He got 10 down to 7. I think Gaff is looking at the same. 8-9 down to 7

The afl have been soft on punches this year. They made somewhat of a stand last year, then it all went out the window. They need to wake up. There's no need for it in the game.

Visually Gaff's and Hall's look similar but Gaff's would be classified as grievous bodily harm which is a totally different league to Hall's.

Gaff's is more like Leigh Matthews.

There is no "down to" anymore. You get what you get.

To me the Hall action is far far worse, the Hall outcome was not as severe or as graphic (i.e Staker didnt spill any blood or anything).

I wasn't talking about what I think. I personally think Gaff should sit out the rest of the season, regardless of the weeks given.

condone
kənˈdəʊn/
verb
  1. accept (behaviour that is considered morally wrong or offensive).
"the college cannot condone any behaviour that involves illicit drugs"
synonyms: deliberately ignore, not take into consideration, disregard, take no notice of, take no account of, accept, allow, make allowances for, let pass, turn a blind eye to, overlook, forget, wink at, blink at, connive at; More
    • approve or sanction (something), especially with reluctance.
"those arrested were released and the exhibition was officially condoned a few weeks later"

Its hard though, the AFL can't win.

Player X gets a fine for a soft punch and people are outraged that the sport is becoming soft.

Player Y gets a week for a punch that is vaguely harder and again everyone is outraged.

So the AFL is damned if they do and damned if they dont.

They can still give you a discount for a clean record etc. usually they’ll just take a week off the decided penalty.

Halls was worse due to his size and boxing skill & at the time I said he deserved to serve 12 weeks +
I think Gaff deserves to serve 7.

How can you blame him for asking some difficult questions when you coach and CEO continually refuse to take responsibility for these things. Took them half a week to condem the airport fiasco.
If Basil is a genuine reporter, he has the chance to ask the following questions to Lyon at the 6pm news this evening:
1. Why you sent an 18 years old to tag Gaff?
2. What did Brayshaw say to Gaff immediately before the incident?
3. Did the language Brayshaw used has anything similar or relating to the Fremantle female staff harrassment case?
4. Does Fremantle has a culture problem? Why harassment case detail was not disclosed with details?

Disavowed Eagle post.

Must admit I'm really enjoying the negative coverage the Eagles are getting. They're so conditioned to their TV programs and Radio shows being so pro-WCE with exaggerated coverage to make them feel better. Too used to seeing Fremantle & Ross Lyon cop flak regularly and be shat on with actual made up rubbish directed at our culture and players. Now the table has flipped - based off fact, one of the worst on-field incidents in the history of the game and their CEO / Coaches' incapability to show any kind of leadership against their once in a blue moon confrontation - now that this is real and they're copping negativity in some form of media here finally, it just shows you how ******* soft and fragile their supporters are.

No. No it wouldn’t. It’s happened in the past and happens at local levels.

So what is your point? You’re playing both sides now.

Considering charges get laid at all other levels for extreme incidents why should top level be different?

Criminalising events on the sporting field is a difficult thing because there are so many grey areas. But that does not excuse inaction in clear cut matters like this one. Massively injurious king hits off the ball should not be left to the tribunals of sporting bodies to deal with.

The problem is that moving forward on this would require the victim to make a formal complaint and cooperate with a prosecution.

If the player were to initiate that then I think the football world would descend upon him with an enormous amount of pressure to relent. I don't think any first year player is in a position to withstand that pressure.

There should be but almost certainly won't be a police charge laid.

The way you worded your post reads as he deserves to be able to come back by week 2 of the finals.
Maybe in your head. I can't see how "deserve" has any positive bearing on a culprit regarding their imminent suspension, particularly in a seemingly unprovoked, one-sided incident. That line of thinking is nonsensical to me, I think it's just a hot take by posters who scan and quote mindlessly, especially if you are club affiliated and therefore presumed as defensive. A thread that races to 100 pages in little over 36 hours features a lot of such trigger finger tl;dnr posting.

Wow.

Never had a problem with the Eagles fans but is this genuine?

I am sure the PR text books say that within 24 hours of someone in your organisation committing serious wrong doing, it is important to front the media and deliver a ranting, acrimonious, bitter, highly defensive apology that allocates most of its focus to sneeringly taking issue with anyone who has expressed even the slightest disappointment in the event.

Surely this is a pisstake.
