I remember Judd commenting at the time he thought 18 teams was too many for exactly that reason, the standard will be diluted !

The standard has obviously diluted right now, but if the AFL was going to expand (which I certainly think was needed), you have to take that hit at some stage.
I think people are really underestimating the importance of having a game in Sydney and in SW Queensland every week, instead of once a fortnight.

The real stuff-up in all this is the AFL not putting the right people in charge at the Suns. Giants have done basically everything better. And I hope they win it this year. Can't believe any Carlton supporter could find that less palatable then ****ing Richmond going back-to-back, or the Filth catching us.

Agree … it needs to be a NATIONAL game …. so … take Tassie for example … which has bred some serious AFL/VFL talent … why wouldn't the AFL throw its support into that state, instead of … oh I don't know … a second QLD side? I actually don't have an issue with the 2 NSW sides as the population there can definitely support it ….

Now lets delve into the concessions the Lions got …. and they won 3? flag? (Cant be bothered looking it up) …. How did that go meshing footy into the QLD culture? It should have … but they cannot stand on their own feet even after 21 years in the system … to this day they cost the AFL 2 million a year in debt. Crowd numbers are shit. They have averaged 18K per game since 2011 ……

You need to grow your brand no doubt. But jeesus they need to be smarter about it and stop throwing good money after bad.

Tassie will be the next team in, or they will relocate a team there.
But they were not the right option for the 17th or 18th teams, for many reasons (including tiny population, split between 2 rival cities). Gold Coast and GWS are long term investments. No doubt the AFL have made mistakes in the implementation, but that doesn't mean the strategy was wrong.

As for Brisbane, it's their own appalling management (much like ours) that has got them into that position, and it's just really bad timing that it is coinciding with GC being terrible as well. Lions are on the up though.

I like him, i saw the the whole lot the good the bad and the ugly. At least he's having a go and how people are writing him off after half a dozen games is baffling. I think he will make it as mid Zorko style.
