I don't think it is. Could do worse than a Goddard as a distributor/mentor for a year. At least he's an old pro.

Disagree. If for no other reason that we’re hardly flush with cash and I’m not sure we can afford the pretzel bill if we’re losing most weeks.

Yeah I'd love him mentoring our young blokes to turn into finger-pointing sooks.

Not everyone is a gee, aww shucks humble great bloke. Some guys are driven and aggro and that's what makes them good. At least Goddard is a has-been. We routinely field never-was-and-never-will-bes.

Not my first choice, or even where I'd be looking, but I could understand it if we did.

2019 1st and our PP this year for Shiel and Setterfield.

Gives us a lot more room to look at Lukosious or Rankine early seeing as our midfield next year (Cripps, Shiel, Murphy, SPS, Fisher, E Curnow, Dow, Setterfield, Kennedy) is suddenly looking a hell of a lot better.

We compensate for the loss of a 1st next year by way of Free Agency.

Im starting to come around to this idea.

Concept is good, but I reckon something else - maybe a mid-late pick from their side would help. 100% believe we should go 2019 first rather than this years.

If we manage to get Shiel across the line (and Setterfield) then just draft Lukosius and watch him become a star - would play R1, 2019. Then if Crows want to froth over him in 2 years, make them pay through the nose.

That was my first thought.

Then I thought, he was a huge fan of the Blues growing up... maybe he ran into SOS by chance and was asking him for an autograph.

Hey SOS can I have your autograph.....on the bottom of this AFLPA approved contact [emoji51]

I hear you - but talk of Fasolo (who cannot even get on the park) and Roughhead (32 FFS) do not inspire much confidence we are really doing a proper rebuild. Plus another old Hawks player (Poppy?) makes it sound like our kids won't get much game time at all next year.

We are going to the draft and trading but the other clubs are too. Hawks got O'Meara, Mitchell and Warpol into their midfield last year. We got Kennedy, Dow and LOB. They get greater immediate impact - so it is very hard to catch up.

We hired Bolton as a development coach - It is slow and tedious - so we are all frustrated. All we have is small signs like McKay starting to blossom.

But if we change streams now and stifle our kids development then we really are a joke. Would prefer young kids losing and improving (like GWS did) than old blokes giving us their best - but still losing.
I'd like to think that there was room for improvement in the squad bringing in some of these types, without adversely affecting the growth of our younger stars.
What if Roughhead replaced Casboult and played 10 - 12 games while mentoring Charlie and Harry?

What if Fasolo came in (fitness and general well being considered) allowing SOS to learn a more rounded game up the Park. We don't have a player like Fasolo, SOS could be (hopefully with more forward line pressure), but needs more time. Let's say he replaces Shaw on the list as an ineffective HBF that we don't really need?

Maybe I'm a little half glass full here but with the three ins Kennedy, Dow and LOB we seriously have 3 ten year players potentially. Mitchell should be impacting games at Hawthorne and even though O'Meara was a slight risk with injury, he still was always going to be damaging baring injuries. Different stages of their Careers and hard to compare.

Hypothetically and without rambling on, what if we replaced 8 or 9 ineffective players (regardless of their age) with 2-3 aging players with premiership and winning experience, hopefully someone like Lloyd from Sydney and 3-4 draftees from a reported exceptional top 30 talent pool?

I agree with you 100% about not stunting the growth of our younger players. GWS are still filling their list with experienced players while staying high in the draft for elite talent. Why not get the right types in as either mentors or solid gap fillers while one of our current younger players develops to take their spot permanently.

How much thought is being put into the Northern Blues list for next year? Will we make some considerable signings that will help fast track our younger players that aren't playing AFL?

PS: Not a retort, just liked your input and wanted to share mine.

I love the idea but I couldn't imagine they would throw Setterfield in.
A team like North or possibly even Essendon or Hawthorn would give up their first this year for him, I'd imagine.
I can't see us getting a fair deal on two contracted players

I've been opposed to going a year early on Sheil all year but am definately starting to come round to the idea for a future 1st (which the Giants will presume to be a bottom 4 pick).

Reckon Setterfield goes to the Bombers though. Hes exactly the player they need. It rings true with them pushing Goddard out the door too (they need the extra cash for him).

I'd be very happy with that. Amazed actually

Add Shiel Setterfield plus Fasolo Dahlhaus for 2019 1st & 2018 PP. Knowing SOS he will want something coming back like this years 3rd rounder.

Then add Walsh, Clark, McHenry & maybe Tom Berry via draft. BSOS, Nelson & Palmer as rookies.

Looks good to me!!!

We wouldn't be handing over a future 1st for Shiel alone. That's likely a top 4 pick for a player who we could get for free next year.

I reckon the Dons would look to swap their 1st for Setterfield this year alone though and the Giants would do it, so it's more likely he winds up at Windy Hill.

So were more likely to get Shiel alone for our future 1st with a second coming back with him.

Jordan Russell says hi.
no he doesn't - he says "**** it, if only I'd kicked that clutch goal/landed that handpass/shepherded/hit fev on his lead/got back to offer support/done something to help the team".
