Just watched the repeat...

I dialogue was:

Caro: Are you interested in MM

Juddy: Yes we are interested

Hutchy: Yes he has nominated Carlton

Caro: blah blah mature age state players could be part of the trade for MM

Juddy didn't confirm or deny.

Can you please apply punctuation?

This is what my understanding as well last night. Judd’s comments were in response to Caro’s possible trade scenario - which he also aptly put on SOS and team as it’s not his role.

Correct. The conversation then continued (posted this last night, re-posting for clarity sake):

After Caro asked if these mature age players might be part of the trade:

Judd: "Potentially, it's really early on in that whole process. Carlton's got to sit down with Adelaide and nut out an appropriate deal that both clubs are happy with".

That would suggest there's is an agreement between McGovern and Carlton.

Carlton has? Or carlton will?

I like Byrne but he won’t be in our best 22 next year.

In terms of running defenders and wingmen, I would select: Doc, Williamson, Simpson, Thomas and Lamb in front of him.

Sorry.

TA
TBH I don't think we're looking at the same Byrne. With a good run he'd be in out top 10 players. His willingness to run and take the game on is awesome, as he already does it well.

I guess I see Thomas, Lamb and Byrne on a par with each other for different reasons.

Doc and Williamson are our best HBFs. The fact that both didn’t play in 2018 has a lot to do with Carlton only winning two games.

Until we go through another SOS trade season, my back 6 are:

B: Plowman, Jones, Weitering
HB: Docherty, Marchbank, Williamson

I reckon Jones is the weakest link in that starting 6.

TA

Who plays on the small forwards??

In regard to Ciaran Byrne, I think LOB will end up on that flank with Zac Fisher as the wing on that side. That'd leave Tom Williamson in the back-pocket, unless he doesn't find a way around his medical issues.

It's a big year for Lachie Plowman and David Cuningham, because with everyone fit I'm not sure they're in the Best 22.

Find it a bit unusual that the club would allow Byrne to play over there... He is injury prone at the best of times...

I agree

Byrne has previously stated that he would like to return to Ireland & play Gaelic football after his AFL career.
Maybe he saw this as his last opportunity to win a championship with his brother and asked the club for permission to play but was denied (As he should have been).
If he then did it anyway, I can see why the club may not be willing to have him back.

Obviously don’t know Byrne’s situation but if he is looking to go home it is a great idea to let him spend time over there and play Gaelic football.

Let him enjoy some time home even let him start his preseason over there and come back after the Christmas break. Hopefully a good few months home will let him recharge and be ready to return.

Yes there is a rule site wide.

Report the post JK.
Amazing that we're still reading their board to be honest. Their supporters are clueless on how to have a proper debate over footy stuff.

Hey TA
I think the position you have Willo in, is Byrne’s based on his end of season form. Willo’s to earn.
Agree about Jones. Highs are high. Lows are too often.

I really think Cunners could and should step into Wright's role and do a solid job.

Better burst of pace, neat sidestep in traffic, sharp around goals, can stick a tackle. Can then rotate into the middle at times and play a similar stoppage role to Dow.

Why?

Seems to me the exact move they should be making. Ben King or Bailey Smith don't help them win a flag in the next 3 years. Melbourne suffered in the prelim because they were spooked into bringing in Joel Smith (who? exactly) to add some height down back and match up on the Kennedy and Darling types.

They've already got some fantastic young talent - Oliver, Petracca, Brayshaw, Viney, Spargo, Lever, Salem, Fritsch.
They've got some reliable role players - Jetta, Hibberd, Hannan, Harmes, Melksham, Neal-Bullen, Tyson.
They've got a solid one-two combo up forward - McDonald, Weideman.
They've got the best ruckman in the comp - Gawn.
Nathan Jones is an underrated leader in the AFL.

Their backline is where things look a little shaky.

Oscar McDonald at full back?

If Pick 5 is what it takes to secure one of the best full backs in the comp, in his prime, who adds a hard edge to the Dees' backline - I reckon the right move is to do the deal (maybe get a little back in a later round) and attack 2019-2021 as their best opportunity to win a flag.

Agreed

Melbourne is doing exactly what I hope we will be doing over the next few years, bringing in proven talent to suit needs
You do not spend that high a pick with the players in this top 5-8 when you don't have to.

They should use their list, their 2019 first rounder and their 2nd round pick to engineer something that satisfies the GC. Personally, I wouldn't spend more than that future first on a guy who lacks agility for his role, is a legitimate hot-head, and hasn't managed a full season in his career (whether that be due to injury or suspension).

That way they continue to build the elite portion if their list while acquiring another piece to improve their 22. They cannot afford to cook a KPD trade two years in a row.

Let's be honest the chances of Byrne making it in the AFL are quite slim. He is only getting a game because we are a rabble. He's no Zach Tuohy.

If his head/heart isn't in it, then best for all parties to just cut ties.
I thought Byrne was one of our best to finish the year, definitely can cement himself in the side long term with good health in my opinion.
