Movie Star Wars - Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker - Spoilers and Rumors

They wont retcon any of TLJ.

But the big things such as Reys parantage can be easily changed of needed.
Ben could of been using the ol "from a certain point of view" argument or just being an arseh*le and lying to try and push her to the dark.
Skywalker could also be more involved even as a force ghost this time driving ben nuts.

Despite some peoples wishes ep8 wont be ignored.

It's much more like the original trilogy?

**** me RJ doesn't understand context. And even though we didn't have a 30 second pause to gab about the Emperor, we still had a few here and there, like the meeting room on the death star, to help the setting, which to be fair is not on RJ, that's something JJ needed in the film prior.

I'm sure Rian Johnson could talk through some really interesting exploration of very subtle themes, it's that he appears to have kicked the continuity officer out of the room when writing the story.

Simple question. If you could destroy a near planet sized star ship by flying into it at near lightspeed then why would a group of desperate rebels who are so fanatically opposed to the empire not suicide a luxury cruise space ship into the deathstar? Why don't planets get bombarded by religious fundamentalists turning their ships at key landmarks and lightspeed into them?

Maybe because Holdo survived the lightspeed attack and her ship sliced through the fleet like a hot knife in butter lol, gee won't Episode 9 be a beauty when that happens.

I think she was going to be a traitor giving their location away the entire time, the dialogue early seems to suggest it, but I think Kennedy stepped on that idea because strong women can't be evil - so they changed it to a tracking system that would justify sending the diversity team out on a pointless mission to try and break in and turn it off.

It had all the setup in place, she was secretly evil, Leia had stripped Poe of his rank for being reckless and going cowboy, he doens't like Holdo, follows his gut and finds out she is a spy, Leia pats him on the back and he is redeemed for following his gut.

You're on to something there, very astute.

It wasn't RJs plan all along because we know the three movies were being developed with no strings attached and each director had their own thing they wanted to do. RJ has no influence on IX like JJ had no influence over VIII and JJ at the time had no influence over IX either and Colin had no say in what would happen in VII or VIII.

RJ said in an interview that each director was given the freedom to advance the story and answer the questions laid down as they saw fit, so there was freedom, but freedom to expand on what has been made. Think about Luke; people act like he screwed around with JJ's plan, but his story makes much more sense as an answer to what JJ laid down. Can someone think of another good reason why Luke disappeared, didn't tell anyone where he was going or leave a way to reach him, but left a puzzle for people to solve should they ever want him to come back? RJ's explanation that he disappeared to die actually makes the most sense. As I said, RJ has now laid down some themes and ideas, it's up to JJ to follow them up in the best way possible.

Making Rey Obi-Wan's granddaughter would actually be shit; it's a pointless twist that advances the story in no particular way. Making her a no one continues the theme of the Jedi moving forward, free from the influences of the past, of Vader and Skywalker. You know, into the future, into new films.
Does this sound like a quote from someone with an elaborate plan for a character?
https://www.cinemablend.com/news/18...s-his-decision-not-to-reveal-more-about-snoke
It doesn't to me. Unless it's a massive long con the likes of which Hollywood has never seen.
Snoke was just one example of the possible 'retcons' people have been talking about. I don't actually mind if he's dead. Kylo Ren is the chief villain.

Yep, makes noooo sense.

Making Rey's grandparents someone pwowerful in the force may.. in some small way.. go to explaining why she is so incredibly powerful despite no training.

Had they provided the neessary exposition, or kept her powers in check, she could have been no one, but thye chose to Mary Sue her up.

What garbage.

The trilogy isnt even finished yet. We have no idea about where her powers came from.

And if she is a Mary sue then would hate to think what Anakin and luke are.

Easily explained that someone else (R2 D2?) knew where he went and made the map, it got broken up etc. Now, obviously that could apply to any explanation, but the fact is, Luke disappearing, not wanting to be found, that sounds like someone having a crisis, not someone going off on an adventure.

Luke did nothing miraculous in the first movie, arguably Obi Wan Kenobi guided his hand with the torpedo.

In empire he had a crash course from THE Jedi master then rushed off to fight Vader who literally toyed with him, one handed, trying to convince him to join him before Luke took a dive.

Then in the third he went to the darkside a little bit emotional about his sister, Vader was emotional about his son being killed in front of him.

Vader killed the emperor, that act killed Vader.

Luke Skywalker was just there.

Compared to Rey. No training. Used a long stick a bit which is incomparable to swordplay. Had no training and bested Kylo Ten, who has spent his childhood learning and training about the force. There was a little bit of the "come join me" like Empire but not nearly enough.

Then there is the scene in The Last Jedi where guards who are trained and armed to fight and kill Jedi are equally matched against her, she did spend a couple of days having her hand tickled by Luke though and waving her lightsaber at a rock.

Kylo and her are equally as good fighting, which is crazy. It should have been all against him except for one that attacked her and he had to come to her rescue after his awesome power was put on display, it would have set him up as a genuine evil threat that would take a Jedi master to defeat, except she saved him. Yay feminism.

She better turn to the darkside and become the most evil creature that Kylo Ren has to turn good again to beat.

As if that will happen.

When she is as good at being a Jedi as a guy who trained all his life it cheapens him, and doesn't make her seem better.

Luke who in his 1st fight in a fighter was one of 3 survivors(plus Han and the wook) and took out the death star.

Kylo had just murdered his father and had been shot in the belly with a bowcaster that usually destroys anyone and everyone it touches.

The fact Kylo survived is a miracle.

As for the battle in TLJ. We didnt see all her training just as we didnt see all of Luke's in ESB. Those guards have no force powers.

I'm not saying TLJ (or the unfinished sequal trilogy for that matter, though it craps on the prequals) is great but the Mary sue talk is hilarious when you take the entire canon into account.

I have zero interest in the next film,
so, hopefully it’s damn good!

JJ has an opportunity to make his best film here, he has it all going for him.
Confidence of already making one film, learning from his initial mistakes, and RJ.
There really is no pressure either. Nobody is talking about it, so the cast and crew can try a relaxed and creative approach to it.

A chance to make something fresh and the best of the three.

The point of RJ snatching away that lineage was to move away from seven movies of ‘chosen ones’ and sons of chosen ones and into a situation where an absolute no one becomes the central character.
Nah the point was just to subvert the audience.

Not this shit again.
If you mean the constant whinging about Rey then agree wholeheartedly.

It's always amusing watching certain individuals whinge about her while defending Luke and Anakin(let alone 100s of other legendary film and tv heros).

It’s always amusing watching those trying to compare Rey to Luke and Anakin because they can’t defend her properly.

It's pretty straight forward really.
Is she overpowered? Possibly as we havent got the full story yet.(with a movie to go)
Is Luke and Anakin? 100% if Rey is the pass mark.

Has it even been a week since the start of The Force Awakens and the end of The Last Jedi? I think they've forced themselves into having the final movie take places many months later.

Amongst the laundry list of poor decisions the sequel trilogy has taken, this for me ranked very highly. Condensing these two films into a 7-10 day period, after a 30+ year gap, was ridiculous.

I recall just after Disney acquired Lucasfilm, the talking up of “endless possibilities and stories” from such an “expansive universe” etc. I was looking forward to this creativity.

Instead, we’ve so far been served 5 hours that’s wedged into a week or so of which 90 minutes is devoted to a mindless slow chase waiting for ships to run out of fuel.

Yep. Fantastic.

When did Luke ever display astronomical powers without training?

Read an interesting article about Rey and her parents today. It's pointed out that Kylo tells her they are in a pauper's grave on Jakku, despite Rey's last memory of them flying away. Now, Kylo could be lying, but he tells her she knows the truth. Just as Maz tells her in TFA that she can see it in here eyes, she knows the truth, they're not coming back. So whatever the answer, maybe there is more connection between JJ and RJ than people are willing to accept.

It’s the the story’s job to keep me interested in it and it failed, so it doesn’t matter if Rey’s powers get explained in the next movie it won’t fix anything because I won’t watch it because the first two films failed to make me care enough about what happens next.

Anakin got his limbs cut off and burnt to crisp yet he’s a Mary Sue, ****ing spare me.

Other than making a tough but not impossible shot Luke doesn’t do anything powerful.
