Crows to face Power in U23 trial game at Thebarton 23/2/2019

Yeah but he's only a few brain farts away from losing his spot to Keath. Hartigan has been a good player for us but he still panics and turns the ball over way too much for an AFL defender. He's worked well as a placeholder but he'll soon be overtaken. Maybe he can stay in the side if he shows improvement but I think he's reached his ceiling already.
I agree. I actually prefer Keith over Hartigan myself, my prediction was simply who I think will be selected. I could be wrong though, perhaps a lot will depend on JLT form and also the availability of Talia.

those midfield tactics have got us 46 wins in the last 71 games.

I feel like the shear force of our attack has held us in great stead of late. Not to mention, our midfeld does well bringing the ball forward (aided by our defenders and running half backs), but I feel defensively we are still lacking massively and if you can't see it in the way our midfield operates then I dont know what to say really.

Even in one of our most successful years of late (2017), that was built around efficient offence. Im not melting that we lost a trial warm up game, but the way the midfield operated and was well beaten, looking hopeless in the 2nd half, looked very reminiscent of our A side.

I didn't get to watch the whole game but seemed like there were a lot of top ups being used in the 2nd half, in particular in the midfield.

Potentially, sometimes it was really hard to see from the stream when packs formed. Bur regardless it's the way we structure up and where our players run when they don't have the ball. I understand the top ups won't be as familiar with the game plan, but this whole defensive midfield thing has been a concern of mine for a long, long time now.

They should have dominated, but didn't do much.
I wonder.if the instruction for Gooch and Knigjts was just.to get a bit of run into their legs and a bit of touch. Let the younger guys (McHenry and Murphy) and Crouch be involved more.

Both were poor and had no desire to be in the contest. Which is odd for these guys as that is their best asset.

Was more interesting to watch than the aflx.
what Guernseys were adelaide wearing? a training jumper?

Was funny tho, the first half both clubs seemed to have a crack and ran players they wanted to get time into. Second half both clubs put the cue in the rack and ran top ups.... But in saying that was bloody hot out there

I was at the ground so it was hard to tell but I did notice number 11 and 33 in the mid at times. Obviously not Seed and Smith.
Just watched the second half again. Midfield was definitely still our players and not a lot of difference between the first half. 11 and 33 were in defence along with 22.

They just overran us. Crouch was still going strong with him and Drew bog.

Thanks for clarifying. In my defense I was wrangling a 2.5 yr old

I'll have to watch it again, I thought Lachie Sholl was very good and got quite a bit of pill, considering where he was drafted I rated him the best of the newcomers. I had them 1. Sholl, 2. Neddy, 3. Jordan Butts, 4. Chayce Jones, 5. Will Hamill, 6. Keiran Strachan.

In the 2nd half I only noticed Scholl once and that was a good tackle that resulted in Stengles goal. He may have got some quick touches on the far side that was hard to spot.

I think Jones got a lot more possies than was first apparent. He doesn't have any stand out physical attributes but in second watch he got more of it than I thought. He was pushed around pretty easily. Needs some more size.

I thought Butts was pretty quiet and struggled due to his size and inexperience.

I would have Ned a clear first with Jones second. The rest struggled imo

I struggled to pick out Jones at all. Ned stood out with his hair.

I guess I just saw the game a bit differently re our youngsters...Or perhaps you were expecting a bit too much from our 1st year players in their first semi serious hit out?

McHenry, Jones, Hamill and Scholl excite Crows fans as Brad Crouch returns in trial game loss to Port Adelaide

Adelaide assistant coach Heath Younie says Crows fans should be excited by the return of Brad Crouch and at a glimpse of their future after their draftees shone against Port Adelaide in a trial game on Saturday.
“For our members to see (Will) Hamill and (Lachlan) Sholl connect with (Chayce) Jones and (Ned) McHenry and then finish with (Shane) McAdam in the goalsquare, some of those plays today should excite them,” Younie said.
“Or there were a couple of passages where it went from McHenry and finished with (Darcy) Fogarty or (Kieran) Strachan, and one of the great things for our members is that’s the future of our footy club right there, so it’s exciting times.”
Younie was pleased with the performance of forwardline recruits Tyson Stengle (Richmond) and Shane McAdam (Sturt) who kicked seven goals between them.
“I’m rapt with how they’ve attacked today’s game, they’ve done a mountain of work over pre-season, are two quality players,” he said.
But perhaps the biggest positive for the Crows was star midfielder Crouch playing his first competitive match in over a year after groin surgery last season. After a slow start Crouch got going and finished with 25 disposals.
“Fantastic for Brad to get continuity, a full game against quality opposition and we continually progress to his next step which is JLT 1 (against Port next Saturday),” Younie said.
“We didn’t put a significant percentage on it (his game time), we just played him as normal and it’s fantastic for him to get through the game.

5. They haven’t had the attention of first-round picks Chayce Jones and Ned McHenry but Lachlan Sholl and Will Hamill look like long-term players. Both read the ball beautifully and Sholl’s kick under pressure is very good for a first-year player. Kieran Strachan and Jordon Butts look good too.

PORT ADELAIDE 5.1 6.2 11.3 15.8 (98)

ADELAIDE 3.2 9.5 12.7 13.9 (87)

BESTPort Adelaide: Drew, Howard, Broadbent, Amon, Butters, Duursma. Adelaide: Crouch, Stengle, Doedee, Sholl, McAdam, Keath McHenry.

Can't really see any meltdowns. Maybe our members are rational enough to know that trial matches aren't worth getting upset about.

...or maybe it's just too hot today.

First real hitout by the boys ......1st qtr was a scrimmage & then it settled down and opened up

I had zero expectations from the kids ......obviously McAdam is 23 YO and Stengle has been in the system a couple of years ...so is it surprising they stood out more ?

Ned has some tricks as well as his fierce attack on the ball ....Jones, we didn't see enough off

Again, we're not looking for the youngsters to be in the best players .....it might be one play, that pricks your ears ....like Neds sidestepping

What I got out of watching the first 3 quarters:
- BCrouch is back and running well. Hopefully he can keep the upward trend then likely to be starting in round 1.
- out of the new recruits, I think Ned, McAdam, and Stengle all showed a bit. Jones, Scholl and Butts did some good things without being electric.
- Jones has elite pace, I hope to see more of him and hoping he can improve in the JLT. A player of serious pace a la Cameron is a welcome addition!

1st preseason games are really games to dust off the cobwebs. Need to see more of these boys in the JLT!

Not sure about this thread but there were posters writing off Eddie on the AFLX thread based on the kick and catch he had on Friday night.

I kid you not.

No real meltdowns. Most comments have been pretty accurate, as far as I could tell from my motion-blurred stream. The only things approaching meltdowns were from people railing against statements of the obvious, e.g., that Fog had a quiet game.
