Reid looked cooked. Cox will be a much better option and provide Grundy some relief. Also lets not discount the Sack.

Aish - a real danger year for him, has periods where he’s really impactful and then goes missing. He is not in the Pendlebury category where he can just take it easy preseason. We need some 4 quarter performances from him this preseason otherwise he misses out on selection round 1.
He played fine football yesterday.Bit Harsh. I thought he was Good Today and just about every player was In and Out of the Game.
Aish was Good and Ball use was Really Good and Made some good Quick Descions when Needed.

I thought he took a courageous mark in the first quarter.
Reid didn't look great yesterday -- looked slow and old and lacking in confidence. Can't imagine he has to pace to go with an elite forward now, so attack is the place for him. But.... looks long down the list unless his form picks up rapidly.
So you didn't read the OP?
Coxy had the same issues in his first year and worked away to get to the Richmond PF performance standard so plenty of time.I have a one concern with Murphy while otherwise loving him. Noticed since the first game I saw him struggling a bit with the art of overhead marking. Looks like a timing issue somewhat, but drops some absolute sitters as has started going for the chest mark instead, even in pack situations which he actually pulls off sometimes. Hope it's something he really works on because with the way he hits the pack, if he starts holding some grabs he'll be a beauty.
I think people are a tad harsh with Reid, he could never jump...he has lost some pace and agility but he was good because of his kicking and ability read the ball and use his body to gain position. I think he has elements of that still and is a valuable foil either forward, back or in the ruck. He knows how to play big games and big moments. Experience counts for something. I think he is on the periphery but still in the 30 squad.Ben Reid still falls over under any physical pressure, he will play very little senior footy in 2019.
There are a fair few teams in that category, it ultimately comes down to winning the contested ball and getting it into the forward line...this is why we lost the granny last year.I'm almost convinced to believe that if it stays healthy in all its parts that is a forward line that cannot be shut down completely - FAR too many talented options.
Every one has their opinion - ours do not align. There are a fair few teams in that category, it ultimately comes down to winning the contested ball and getting it into the forward line...this is why we lost the granny last year.
Game Thoughts:
- Our ball movement was good. I especially liked the transitional positioning in offence with our hand ball chains and lowering our eyes entering the f50.
- Our fitness was better than Freos who looked spent. Given our much later start to preseason thats encouraging.
- Our makeshift defence stood up well to the high volume of f50 entries. They put a lot of pressure on us and while they were a little directionless entering their f50 it was still a good performance by our defenders. We intercepted with ease at times.
Players thoughts:
James Aish - I thought he was excellent. I love it that he is so clean exiting defence. That puts him ahead of Greenwood for mine. He is starting to look comfortable in the role and I reckon he starts in the 22 round 1.
Isaac Quaynor - I loved his attack on the ball, his pace and his offensive intent. The flip side to that is that he lacked composure and was caught out by AFL pace. It was great exposure and gave him a valueab lesson. I think he needs a bit of VFL development time.
Jordan Roughead - I thought he looked handy when the ball came in long and slow killing most contests. Then looked a little cumbersome in play at times. His worth will depend a lot on the midfield slowing down the oppositions ball movement. He'll look a million bucks when we do and ordinary when we don't. I prefer Goldsack as a starter but there will be games against teams like Geelong and Freo where his height will be useful.
Reid - He's not the player he was but contested ok. I want to see him as a key back this JLT to gauge whether he remains an option there if needed.
Josh Thomas - I thought was excellent as a high half forward. Helped connect the mids and forwards. He's an important player for us and may not be so easily dislodged as I thought. WHE injury almost certainly assures him a starting spot but if he carries onin this form he wont be going anywhere.
Brody Mihocek - He was excellent. A bit like Thomas he was a great conduit for the mids. I liked his aerial contest. He's not a big marker but he does bring the ball to ground and follows up. Well ahead of Reid for round 1.
Darcy Moore - I thought he started quietly but found his mojo late. His intercepting play and his dash from defence will be a weapon for us.
Tyler Brown - Awesome lateral movement and liked his footy brain. I cant wait for him to fill out but reckon he might be ona Seedsman timeframe for it. Got caught by the pace and a lack of spatial awareness twice but I liked his endeavour when he tried.
Callum Brown - He had 20 disposals and I barely noticed one. Thats what he projects as on a good day at AFL level. I'm not convinced its enough. Needs to fill out quick so he can impose himself more physically.
Nathan Murphy - Looks comfortable with the level. Love his attack on the ball. When he fills out he will do some damage with that manic attack. Will his pace hold him back?
Jaidyn Stephenson - Freak!
Jamie Elliott - Great return. Looked unhindered and will be a huge addition for us. My only query, can we fit both WHE and Elliott in the f50? Will they be playing the same role and get in each others way? It's a serious question too. We'll have De Goey, Stephenson, Varcoe and Thomas as well. I hope we go for our best balance. We may see Stephenson and WHE spend more time using their pace in the midfield/wing.
Varcoe - What a predator he is. Sits off the contest and positions himself perfectly for if the opposition wins the ball. Then like a bullet whammo! You're done. Love his work!
For those saying Greenwood is not a lock for round 1, obviously haven't checked the fixture.
Geelong, Selwood.
Playing him on Selwood is almost guaranteed success. Greenwood is certainly not a lock for best 22 once players are returning from injury later in the season. Will be interesting to see whether he can hold his spot.He plays RD 1 so he can again make Duckwood his Bitch not sure he plays after that
Thomas had some good passages of play in close I thought. There was even a play where he gathered and used some pace I didn’t know he had.Thought Thomas was pretty poor. I’m usually big wraps for him too. Might have to re-watch the game.
Daicos looks like he’ll make big strides this year, liked his game.

Sier gone past him, I think he'll struggle to see any game time this yearThey need to persist with Wills and find a spot for him. He's so good in and under, is a tackling machine and has such strength through the core - we have to make use of all that somewhere on the ground.
