good hit out. plenty to work with and the result is fine.

Rough getting a lazy 5 is pretty handy.

Stuff gets serious as of now.

Like Rough as the deepest forward. If Lewis can continue to develop up the ground he stay up there longer

Good:
Roughy looks like he has another year ;)
Scrimshaw's first quarter
JOM
All players escaped generally unscathed from injury

Bad:
Losing from 40 points down
O'Brien still doesn't look like he will get there
All our junior players still need time

Ugly:
Some bewildering goal kicking from close (Roughy, Breust, Smith)
50 m penalty infringements (Frawley learn the rules despite the rule being stupid!)
Umpiring was abysmal in the third

We knew most of this already but...
Scrimshaw will have an impact in 2019. As will Cousins
Most of Box Hill graduates are still a way off
Lewis will be good, it maybe not until 2020
Frawley is our only AFL standard key defender.
Rough will be better without the Captancy
Ceglar will take a while to get back to his best

Decent effort. Looks like we played our best 22 structure in the first half and played around a bit with allowing others a go, and some position switches in the second half, although tigers definitely upped their intensity in the second half too. Sicily seemed to miss most if not all of the second half, which along with TOB onto Riewoldt made things tough. Ceglar was doing well before looking like he was rested too. Was O'meara on in the third quarter? Didn't remember seeing him involved again until the fourth quarter after a huge first half.

Didn’t go the resting ruck in the square too much. Interesting

Loved how we didn't just swap back to our best setup to try and win the game. Coaches put the pressure on the young guys to hold up and whilst we didn't win, the experience and review will be invaluable for the development of these guys.

All night we were happy to throw players into the deep end and not just ease them in. Plenty to like from what I saw.

Yep, I'm sure Clarko et al had a list of objectives and I doubt winning was one of them. Hopefully the others were ticked off.

Media will rave about Tigers now and we can fly under the radar

She must be promoted to AFLW.....and stay there
There is no need for sexism - she was incompetent tonight, and has been pretty much everytime I've seen her umpire, but that has nothing to do with the fact she's a woman, she's just a poor umpire.

The swing in the game happened when TOB and Mirra came on. Completelychanged how our backline functioned (or failed to function).

The end result isn't important but I'm not confident we have much backline depth if any of Stratton Frawley Brand or Sicily get injured.

Jack Higgins, is there a worse person to talk up in the entire league. Such an annoying self aggrandising tosser.

Shattered, I haven't watched the game yet.

Was it just a matter of us tiring out?

At least there wasn't much in it.

Any highlights for me to look forward to?

A lot of highlights in the first half. We played well and Richmond were worse than usual. Lot of good moments from our younger guys too. Accurate goalkicking and generally good ball movement.

Second half we threw around a few magnets and rested a few players. Brought Mirra/O'Brien on for Brand/Sicily (yikes). Sent Worpel forward then off. Took O'Meara out of centre clearances. Took Mitch Lewis off in favour of smaller players. Took Hendo off the wing in favour of Morrison. Probably even more changes that I didn't notice. Our midfield legit imploded in the third quarter due to the changes but - as mentioned by a previous poster - Clarko was asking questions and finding answers. Also some shit umpiring gifting Richmond 5 goals but we did get the rub of the green in the first half.

I know he’s mates with Clarko but i would have thought he was a Melbourne supporter ? Not sure - just asking..
His dad played for Hawthorn, so he grew up supporting Hawthorn all his childhood.

+1
I do like a lot of these younger guys but you are right...

Wow it is only pre season but the inconsistent shit umpiring is so frustrating
Riewoldt just has to look at the umpires and they give him a free kick. On the other hand he can jump all over defenders flying for unrealistic marks and get no where near the ball and all is good. He can also throw defenders out of the way and again All is good. The female umpire was BOG in the second half. She could not have paid more bullshit free kicks if she tried. So now that I got that off my chest my takeaways from tonight’s game

O’Brien, the less we see of him the better. Likewise Mirra
Some of the younger guys need to adjust to the pace of the game but will be good.

So many fumbles and ****ing around from senior players that is really frustrating to watch. This was the case even when we were dominant in the first half.

Rough looked good and his accuracy was. A nice change. Breust needs to work on his accuracy as we can’t afford missing sitters

A very encouraging effort tonight despite the serious talent that was missing

Dwayne Russell is still an annoying try hard

The 1st half showed what the side can do.
I guess they rested players to give the others a chance.
It's pretty obvious that some wont make the side round one.
I think there is another game for the hawks, think an intraclub prior to the season.

Good signs but concerned about the 2nd half experiment and felt Smith and Punky short of a gallop as they
don't usually play that way.
Be interesting to see who the 22 are that run out against the Crows in Adelaide, they appear improved
so should be an interesting game.
Like to see more of ML, Ollie and Dylan prior to the season opener.
Happy Roughy back to some good form.

There is no way he's playing on Jack in a real game. Second half was time to spin the magnets
I don’t mean just for tonight’s game but in general. TOB has been given plenty of chances, sadly I just don’t think he’s good enough.

Liked a lot of what the youngsters brought to the contest. Scrimshaw, Cousins, Worpel, Lewis and patches from Hanrahan (looks a player).

Hard to read the game, for mine. Not sure how Richmond laid out their side and whether they were experimenting as much as we were. First half was handy.

TOB and Mirra looked out of their depth, but they are on the list. We know Frawley is going to miss games and discover some new exotic injury, so these guys need to get serious.

Thanks heaps mate, I appreciate it.

So it was more a case of us tinkering around and experimenting, than being outmatched or outplayed.

I'm looking forward to watching the replay because it appeared that we had them on the ropes for quite the first half when we were up by 40 points.

I checked in halfway through the third quarter and I figured something had happened.

Good to hear the kids played well, any that kicked the door down for Round 1 at all?

Shattered? Who cares about the result.

First half great. Glimpses in second half. Lots of silly points by Hawks when goals were there for the taking.

Lots of good players to watch. Nothing spectacular, but worthwhile. Ignore the umpiring and you'll enjoy it more. :)

Someone’s sensitive....think you’re reading too much into it ....unless you’re looking for something to cry about

and lords knows we have plenty of them!!!

I really liked Hanrahan tonight on limited minutes.
Thought he showed lots of speed and confidence, pretty clean with the ball and wasn't out of place at all.
For mine he gets a run before Moore.

Expected more from Stratts tonight as Capitano. Didn't go for many marks, looked kinda nervy throughout play.
Ah well, onward and upward. Lots of good play and players tonight, not bothered by the final score.
