Just noticed on the AFL stats from the game that Clugga only had 67% game time - second lowest for us next to Oscar with 66%. Seemed a bit strange to me given how well he played in the time he was on the ground. Maybe their stats are wrong or I have read them incorrectly.

My friends, round one is the start of our almighty squiggles vision coming to life.

Hmm ... so we would get to play the Pies in an elimination final ... *evil grin* ... would only be better if the positions were reversed and they had to play it at the Gabbatoir!

Nah. Booing is a part of the game. Booing has it's own tones - you can tell a boo of respect like Jack gets from a boo of disgust, like GWS Cameron or Stephen May gets.

And Beams will get a different boo to Jack. And he will know it
I wouldn't boo Jack , but I do agree you could tell by the tone it wasn't spiteful or emotive, more like a bit of fun.

Anyone suggesting the weather played apart is an absolute muppet. We were just as fumbly at times. Probably would have beaten that west coast teamnny 15 goals if it were played in pristine conditions.
If the weather was such an issue, why haven't we won every Saturday night game ever?

Enjoying the Eagles fans telling themselves it's because of the weather.

We have struggled to win a game in the first few months for the last few years. Such a huge advantage!

Oh well its a sign to the rest of the comp. Water your ovals heavily prior to your game against the eagles for an easy win.

Went to the game with the girlfriend, sat in front row on the wing, just next to the bench. Ended up a bit drunk at Canvas before the game and had great night offering advice to all the west coast staff and players that walked along the boundary. Was also telling the eagles supporters around me that the game was done at 3/4 time. Don't think the girlfriend is keen on me drinking that much before the game again :p

20k was alright as the Eagles dont normally draw much of a crowd here. Good sign was GA selling out before the game.
If we win a couple more and/or are very competitive over the next 3 weeks before the Collingwood game I'd be hopeful of a 25K + crowd for the Pies. They may even have to open up the upper tier of the eastern grandstand that has been cordoned off of late.

Club expecting 35k plus

20k was alright but G.A usually sells out early so anyone who is turning up to purchase on game day has to fork out more for entry.$42 from memory if we want bigger crowds make it more affordable for the once or twice a year fan who doesn’t want membership.

Nine things we learned
7. The pre-season hype for Brisbane is justified
Their own supporters are excited, the media have hyped them and even AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said there was a "feel good" factor around the Lions entering 2019. On the evidence of one round, Chris Fagan's men are up to the task. They got premier West Coast at a good time, undermanned and on a terribly humid night in Brisbane, but the 14 goals to two demolition after quarter-time could hardly have been more impressive. Gone are the days of one or two standouts trying to carry the team – this performance was based on a collective effort. From Harris Andrews in defence to a midfield effort led by Lachie Neale and Hugh McCluggage and a dangerous forward line highlighted by Charlie Cameron, the Lions proved they're good enough to march up the ladder this year. - Michael Whiting

All well and good, but as long as the players / club don't get caught up in the hype and we don't come into games thinking we've got it before we ran out (think Melbourne and Adelaide both did that on the weekend and definitely something we could fall into into due to North's big loss).

Finally got around to watching the full replay and man, do I have the guilts in not finding a vote for Dan McStay.

He was selfless, never put a foot wrong all game and absolutely massive in the last quarter.

Forget Supercoach and DT bullshit, this was easily his most impressive effort for the club.

Well done young man:thumbsu:

I agree that the players and coaches can't believe the hype - and I don't think they will tbh. All it would take is a glimpse at the end of season ladder in 2017 and 2018 to remind them of all the work still to be done.

Supporters otoh....well, I've made my feelings clear around here already, no need to labour the point :D (but I get many of you are a little more circumspect than I am, and that's fine too :) )

The thing that impressed me the most was our dominance of most contests around the ground. We weren't the ones being pushed around, we surged the ball forward when we couldn't take possession and harassed the opposition into losing possession instead of letting them run away with it like we normally would.

You can tell from Fagan's post-match interview that he won't let that happen.
