Clever cherry picking !!

"I'm not trying to look for excuses. Did I racially vilify? No, I had a slip of the tongue."

"The question that I took at the press conference today - and I don't want to get into semantics because I think I've been as open as I can on this - was did you racially vilify? And the answer was no and I stand by that."

At no point did he say he racially vilified Goodes

"I'm not trying to look for excuses. Did I racially vilify? No, I had a slip of the tongue. But did what I say, was it racial vilification? Yes it was," he said.

Why don't you post the full comment with context of the conversation? Oh... I wonder why...

Seriously can't believe this still needs to be explained to some people. If Eddie Mcguire came out and called Goodes a monkey/ape he WOULD NOT still have ANY media job, that's for certain... Some people do just not get it, having to explain it again and again is so painful.
Sure thing...now will you go bury your head!

EDDIE MCGUIRE, COLLINGWOOD PRESIDENT (on Triple M Breakfast, May 29th): Get Adam Goodes down for it, do ya reckon?
LUKE DARCY, TRIPLE M: No, I wouldn't have thought so. Or - absolutely.
EDDIE MCGUIRE: You can see them doing it, can't ya?
LUKE DARCY: Who?
EDDIE MCGUIRE: Goodesy.
LUKE DARCY: What's that?
EDDIE MCGUIRE: Ya know, the ape thing, the whole thing. I'm just saying, the pumping him up and mucking around, all that sorta stuff.

A stupid comment but he is clearly not trying to call Goodes an ape... as anyone with a brain can see.

I find this incredibly amusing.

His comments aren't offensive, but they were stupid. Colour commentary continues to be a blight on footy. One day every AFL talking head will be someone of substance and not merely an ex-player or Triple M stooge.

McGuire is an odious bore. I think he comes out with this crap to attract yet more attention. I expect he uses Newman as a mentor.

Bad day to lament on the quality of coin tosses. I don’t think he would made the comments if he knew who was tossing. Overreaction. The SJW syndrome strikes again.

The Swans moronic over-reaction in calling for "consequences", is actually a smart move to deflect the spotlight away from them for dismal dismal start, and onto Eddie.

Hmm clearly too much pressure on future tossers so suggest getting a professional to entertain us with a perfectly executed triple backwards somersault toss or similar. It would become a special segment and then there'd be a tosser of the year prize.

He didnt know she was an amputee and wasnt paying significant attention. I'm no fan of McGuire but this is a beat up and makes a mockery of instances of when such outrage is actually justified.

This is clearly a case of Pridham hating McGuire and wanting to get him if provided any opportunity at all. Its actually more problematic using somebody's disability, in particular the number one ticket holder of your club, as a tool to bring down someone else who wasnt actually discriminating against them for that disability than making a comment like McGuire did.

If it is agreed by all that Eddie didnt know she had a disability at the time of comment (in particular the extent of it), then there is no reason this should proceed any further other than the apology which has now been made twice. Contrast this with the obesity 'drama' with the Nationals Senator who was clearly having a go, lied about it, and nobody batted an eyelid (image below). It seems Eddie is being held to a higher standard than an elected official

She gets away with it because she is a woman. If a male politician did this then he would be in trouble.

Like Ed?

Ed isn’t an ex-player and was an AFL talking head long before he ever worked for triple M

I think she got away with it as she apologised minimally, said a lie nobody could question and was clearly ridiculous, and then didnt talk about it thereafter (Eddie really never learned how to do this). And if it was a male Nationals Senator they wouldnt have to fake being obese!

People are always up for a mob media takedown regardless of who the person is. Funny that this is the Sports Minister.

Nonsensical tripe. Honest and easy mistake to make. Just another example of confected outrage from the permanently outraged. The precious Swans and their precious supporters are always on auto pilot to get outraged at even the most innocuous Eddie comment.

Most others with a modicum of commonsense would analyse the situation for what it was, accept the apology, and move on. I suppose though, it’s an Eddie sent opportunity to deflect, particularly after the Swans underwhelming start to the season.

Jesus man. Every time someone stuffs up the coin toss they get made fun of on every footy show in the country. If you can't take a joke then don't put yourself in a situation where you have the potential to make a fool of yourself in front of hundreds of thousands of people.

This is getting ridiculous now. I hate Eddie McGuire too but come on. There was no way he could've known the woman was disabled. He didn't even make fun of her disability... just made a joke about punishing coin tossers who stuff up what should be a simple task. Everyone is a victim that needs to be white knighted these days.
Well, except for that walking stick.......that may have given him a clue.
