So happy with the game today, there were positives everywhere.

Team selection was a lot more balanced this week and we looked to have such better cohesion going forward. Everyone who watched the game saw how great Samo, Cripps, and Mckay played but i was most pleased with Gibbons and SOS.

To recruit a guy who's too good for the VFL as a midfielder and play him deep in the forward line didn't work and i was rapt not only in Gibbons himself but for the coaching staff to actually play him further up the ground, he showed a lot of promise, kicked his first goal and showed he does have AFL qualities. If he keeps improving, even marginally, he will be a solid contributor.

SOS was fantastic, constantly provided a target, went in hard and played with great intensity, he really needs to keep working on his set shot kicking and his speed in ball movement but this was his first game back and he looked like he belonged.

Well done to Cas, he has many limitations but he worked really hard today, he crashes the packs, provides a target and kicked some good goals today. He might not be part of the future but he is a Carlton man and will step up the best he can.

A few posters discussing Kayo and Foxtel, a fyi, i called up to cancel my Foxtel, i ended up staying after being offered $33 per month basic + sports, so give them a call and pretend to quit if you're paying more.

JSOS’s contributions are easy to miss.

Eg Murphy’s goal was sensational under duress.

But if you look at the preceding 5 seconds JSOS tackled and dispossessed a Dog player, hunted the ball inside the pack, fell then tapped the ball on so he didn’t get caught with it, regained his feet and possession of the ball, was tackled and legged and still got the ball to Murph who ducked into a tackle then snapped it through.

There were other instances where rather than dive in for a contested ball he calculated where the opposition was and blocked them them from tackling his teammate while they took possession of the ball unhindered and then delivered without any pressure to another teammate.

Don’t think this shows up on the stats sheet but is really important for the team.

If he can improve his set shot goal kicking he’ll be a very handy player.

let me say I do admire what Daisy has done since his contract selflessness however in my mind it is time for him to go. Would he get a game at any other team? I have serious doubts. His kicking is dodgy, he gives away silly free kicks and his pace has well and truly gone. He was exposed yesterday at times by Dunkley, badly. It is time to say thanks for your efforts and your passion but Cunningham, Pickett, Williamson , Kerr , Mcreadie and of course Docherty when all available need to be ahead of him now.
how odd

Other than that patch of the yips I dont think Levi was ever our problem. It was a team around him and some midfielders learning to weight their kicks and get the timing right.
Agree Levi has to some degree been a victim of our poor teams over his career .
He's proven before and again yesterday that when we get our ball movement correct for long enough he can be a real weapon .
Sadly that hasn't happened often of recent years .
Still some fumbles and poor play but because we were able to dominate play for larger periods and give him plenty of opportunity same for the other forwards he repaid that dominance .

Shout out to Daisy Thomas btw. The passion he plays with has been evident for a while now, but after seeing those images of him when we lost last week and then the joy of this win, he's become Carlton through and through. No longer a guy we got from the Pies in my eyes.

Spotted him having lunch at Torquay today. Possibly had just been for a surf to ease his sore muscles.

Cripps was pretty handball happy yesterday,

Reckon the coaches instructed him to focus on bringing his teammates into the game a bit rather than try win it himself?

If they did, I agree with it. We should be getting as many handball receives into a loose SPS, Fisher or Walsh as we can.

I posted a couple weeks back that we won't win a game this year until Samo gets 25+ touches, I'm 1/1 on that condition, lol.

Love seeing so many posts after a match and they are positive! I'm only halfway through the thread but here's some thoughts from me that absolutely nobody demanded:

- We controlled the ball beautifully and in stark contrast to the week before. Bolts has talked about how 'coachable' this group is before and this is a great example; a complete 180 on the ball control from last game. We selected a tall team again, but this time it worked because we played to our strength (height). This is something that is often overlooked - playing the game style to suit your team is far more important that getting some arbitrary 'team balance' right. The balance is relative to your game plan. We got that balance right.

- Tackling pressure was good in our F50. Could probably lift a little more around the ground, but the low numbers might be explained by the above team selection point.

- We used the middle of the park when it was on and did it pretty well. Sexy.

- Listened to Bevo's post-game presser and I liked hearing him praise the way our defenders play as a unit. Seems they are demanding respect from opposition coaches and teams. Excellent.

- Good to see some love for the Plow. He hasn't deserved the criticism this year. After round 3 he was rated the 7th best general defender in the comp.

- Loved Walsh's celebratory "V" for Vanilla sign at the end :)

- Polson didn't get much of it but the pressure was there. His shepherd set up Gibbons' first goal. Gotta lift or risk being dropped for Cunners.

- LOB had a down game but never stops trying. I think he will get there but it will just be a slower burn. I reckon he will be a lot like Isaac Smith who was drafted later than usual. Except now we have him in our system for a few years before he is ready to go bang.

The big question is whether this is a turning point or a flash in the pan. Can't wait to find out :)

Re LOB.

Ed Richards looked a bit “lost” out there today.

Was “late” to the ball a few times as well.

phew, caught up. How much fun was that. Plenty of Baggers at the ground willing the team on.

Took my partner, a north supporter. He needed cheering up. Like to hear from a neutral too, see if he's seeing what I am. Who should be in the bests? He suggested the multiples of 5s - Samo, Harry, Plow, Fish and Gibbons. I suggested considering the multiples of 9 too.

It was so great to see them learn and improve from last week. The running to provide options, better leading, switching to hold possession when needed, lowering the eyes for non-bomb disposals. Spread of goalkickers plus H and Levi amongst it. Oh and Samo. Hard nut and silk. Man he can kick.

Ed's playing a lesser role now as others develop. Need his experience at the moment.

Be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks if we stay fit and with Williamson Charlie Cuningham TDK Lang Stocker Kennedy Macreadie Schumacher Setterfield all fit and pushing for selection

Wouldn't that be a nice problem to have!!!

The VFL team keep winning????

You must have been watching a different game.

Absolutely and If you listened to bolts presser after the game he praised the hierarchy for the support he has received from the prez Lloyd Liddle and Stephen Silvagni now if there's a rift between these 2 as some would have us believe then bolts is not mentioning SOS in this regard .

That's a very strange he take . Is it April 1st again?

9 years of yipping a patch?

Is it actually not beyond the realms of possibility that someone at the club asked Caro to publicly bake Harry and SPS on Footy Classified in order to fire them up ? (Things like this have been known to happen in the past)

If yesterday is the net and tangible result of Caro roasting our players, than sign me up for seconds (Charlie next Miss Wilson x)

I just find it fascinating that both those boys played their lights out yesterday. Maybe i am watching too much Game of Thrones to be swayed into thinking such a Machiavellian tactic by the club 😂😂😁

She blames the supporters and making out she is the voice of our Club.

After last week on Footy Crucified on the development of SPS & Harry & after yesterdays win, she said this tripe:-
"Clearly better than Carlton supporters thought"

**** off Caro

Of course because there isn't. People just invent stuff to suit their needs.

Most pleasing aspect is that we didn't just win, we thumped them. Can't remember the last time we have done that. Even when we have been the better team on the day we have tended to scrap our way to a one or two goal win. Players played with confidence which resulted in a greater use of the corridor.

JSOS will never be a superstar but he is definitely part of our best 22. Tackles hard, effort can never be questioned, had numerous score involvements and kicks well. If he and Gibbons are making up the final few spots in the 22, I think that's a pretty decent list.
