Review R7 - Port ate all the Pies

So 2 weeks ago against West Coast wasn't decent intensity against decent opposition? Come on, man!
Not finals like, no...We have a bit to learn. The coaching staff wouldn't have been thrilled with the loss but the kids will know that stepping up just doesn't happen from under 18 to AFL. It happens from opponent to opponent

Dermis said pre game that Howard was the no.1 rated defender after 6 rounds! I thought he was okay.

We seem to fall into the trap that we did with richmond getting too many sucked into the contest and then leaving oppositionnpkayers to be alone and run away with it.

Remember,

• Video games and being unable/unwilling to defend = ruthlessly traded

• Wakeboarding and being unable to execute basic skills and unwilling to lead = Megadeal & captaincy

Imagine if we had the money we threw at Ollie for Chad. It may have counteracted the side deals available in Vic.

That’s how you ******* do ‘Sliding Doors’, Barrett.

Okay, I'm gonna look at this crap first quarter.

And who do I see ******* up in the middle of the ground? Riley Bonner. Twice he could have gone for a tackle to stop Collingwood from handballing through the centre of the ground, and twice he just stood there like with his hands up in the air. You want this loser to play wing? Fine. Get him a ******* bib and put him in Wing Defence, because he ******* plays netball when everyone else plays football.

******* Bonner AGAIN going for a ball that Houston and Howard already had covered and not hanging back to cover Stephenson for the first Collingwood goal. What is with this clown? When the ball a ball is loose he'll go for it at a hundred miles an hour, but when it's time to actually be hard, he wilts like a soft utensil.

Byrne-Jones - what was he doing sticking his arm out for a ball that was going to miss him by a mile? He's supposed to be this great lockdown defender and he can't stop Stephenson from getting out the back because he can't judge the flight of a ball?

Houston - why didn't he try to slap the ball towards a waiting Rockliff on the wing?

Lycett was just unlucky with that kick on goal in the square. Did everything right but the ball just didn't bounce the way it needed to.

Wines - what a ******* s**t kick. Get your s**t together boy.

Burton should have been more aware of Stephenson leading out and gone across to help Byrne-Jones. Collingwood were getting us over the back by not delaying their kick-ins at all and getting on their bike as soon as we missed, which meant that the defenders that pushed up too high were caught out of position.

Clurey thought that that ball was going out of bounds. ******* make sure of it.

Burton - don't handball to a Howard running back toward goal FFS. Howard - why didn't you shepherd for Burton? He's a better kick than you.

Didn't mind Powell-Pepper's kick on goal. I call that a calculated risk.

Duursma losing the ball against Crisp was just unlucky. But if you ever wanted proof that Bonner is soft and just concerned about stats - the fact that he made sure to put a hand on Elliot as he marked the ball in what was the easiest of uncontested marks, which would be counted as a pressure act - is it.

*Rodney Eade voice* LOOK AT BONNER AGAIN! * HIM! He's sitting behind the stoppage to cover the outlet for Collingwood and instead of waiting until it's clear we actually have the ball, he's getting sucked up to the contest and allowing clear run out the back.

AND AGAIN! Elliot was his man and he just ignores him to do absolutely NOTHING trying to get to a contest THAT HE CAN'T CONTEST AT. Ling blames Clurey, but it wasn't Clurey's fault at all. Yeah, ******* drink your Coke Zero, Ken. If you pick Bonner again this year, you ******* ARE a zero.

Why did Rozee not put the ball in space for Westhoff, who you would think is more agile than Moore, to run on to? Or at least put it to the advantage of Westhoff?

Wines - if you can't ******* stick a tackle with your injured shoulder, * off out of the team. Seriously. And hand back the captaincy while you're at it.

Don't blame wines... Blame Ken for giving him the captaincy when he has proven nothing other then being one of the worst kicks of the ball in the competition and a massive sook. Some different players and the same results.... At some point you have to point the finger at the coach.

Don’t think we worked hard enough to spread and create options . The same in the Richmond game , the amount of times every player was covered when we were trying to get the ball out of defence . Need to keep on the move so there is always a leading player to aim at .

Imagine if we had the money we threw at Ollie for Chad. It may have counteracted the side deals available in Vic.

That’s how you ******* do ‘Sliding Doors’, Barrett.

And we still have Motlop, who is barely Chad on Chad’s worst day, collecting $500k pa until 2021.

Whatever their respective performances going forward, the club’s internal logic is broken.

They’re not being ‘hammered’ though, it is what it is. Butters either needs a week’s rest or a spell with the Maggies.

Rockliff and his albatross of a contract need to be shipped to Royal Antwerp so Drew can do what he does best and develop so we can get on with executing this random rebuild properly.

m8. Rockliff is averaging over 30 touches a game despite missing half of one of those games with a concussion. Top 10 in the league for disposals, effective disposals, contested possessions and clearances. Outside of Boak he's been our best player. Think it's time you admit you got that one wrong last year and move on.

What does he do with it though other then blindly snap it of a stoppage to the opposition? We have too many running through the middle like him

He hits targets with it. There are only 5 players in the entire league who have hit more targets than him this year.

Nah. Not what we need. Too expensive. Should’ve stayed in Brisbane.

Pulled out of a contested groundball with Howe last night too. Wasn’t alone, has generally been good and no longer looks utterly cooked, but what do we need him for at 29yo and $750k pa?

Don’t be like that.

Rockliff is objectively one of the best inside contested possession and clearance winners in the league. It's not Rockliff's fault we traded away our entire outside midfield brigade last year. If it had been Wines who'd gone last year rather than Wingard (and let's remember that at the time we recruited Rockliff Wines was an out of contract Victorian and Wingard was a contracted South Australian, if I'd told you one of them wouldn't be on our list in 2019 nobody would've guessed it'd be Wingard) then he'd be exactly what we need, and our team would most likely look a lot better than it does now.

Wingard is on the verge of retirement. He is absolutely trash this year. We made the right decision there.

You know who costs more and does less than Rockliff? Ollie Wines.

And Rockliff came as a free agent, we would've gotten something pretty good in a trade for Wines.

He'll be fine once they start playing him in position.

A tough pill I find hard to swallow because we ****ed up our tilt so bad is that we're rebuilding. Half of our team had less than 50 games last night. Collingwood had 3.

Hinkley etc had their crack. Time to give the reins to someone else.

What's his position? They have played him in the middle and forward this year. Done nothing.

He's spent * all time in the middle. On the rare occasion he's played there he's looked good. When he's been up forward he's been trash. Which is exactly the same as his form for us last year.
