Yeah you say that, but have you and thisisanfield ever been seen in the same room?
Tiger bennies trying to inflate their membership numbers, that's what's going on here
Mmmm something to consider I can honestly say as far as I know we have never been in the same room at the same time.

How do you know whether the SAFL or VFA was the top tier competition of the period, you could win the VFA back then without even having the most wins for the season.

Following the establishment of the Victorian Football Association in 1877, the VFA announced a Premier team. This was usually the club with the highest number of wins but this was not always the case; if a high proportion of wins were against Junior clubs, this would count against the team.

It isn't the case now.

Yes unfortunately.

So what do we have, first we dont know if flags, cups or tea cosies were even the prize in a competition that was won by a team that didn't play a finals series and didn't necessarily have to finish with the most wins.
Add to this the fact that the competition may or may not have been the top tier competition in the land and you're wondering why many dont want these flags, cups or tea cosies included in the count of a totally different competitions flags:think:

Celebrate them for what they are by all means but include them in the current comps totals, madness.

There used to ba a top 4, and a top 5. During the war a flag was won by the wooden spooner. Why are these more worthy?

Why you so hung up on this..?

Oh and read my sig. :)

Always funny how the Geelong horde used to say only AFL flags count. Anything else was won by painters and bricklayers and did not count.

A few links would be helpful.

Using the OP's rationale of adding flags won in the VFA/VFL after 1897, then you'd also have to add the flags Geelong won at that level in 2002, 2007 and 2012, which would still have us ahead of Port Melbourne.

Nice try though.

Most clubs that have been around for over 100 years have won enough flags to not need to add the tea cosies to their flag count.

Our flag broke Geelong.

Hocking’s rules and now want to add flags since we became 11 to 9.

Geelong joined the real top tier competition the VFL and have only won 9 flags in 120 years.

We created the VFL, at the time of creation the only reason it (VFL) was the top tier league (if it was even regarded as such) is because we took the very best teams of the VFA and started the VFL leaving behind some lower teams in the VFA, so in fact we weakened the VFA to create the VFL. yet you claim the VFA of the time was not top tier...

Your hastily thrown together opinion is flawed.

At the risk of being accused of digressing: What happened to him?
Used to be a regular poster as I recall.

In a nutshell,

Had a Gary Rohan injury troll post deleted then melted at Starburns over it.

Got so upset that he started posting personal information about him.

Now posts under the name Tiger2709

Lol not even close champ, joined in 09 posted under this name and no other regularly since then, its my birthdate and the date of the 1980 flag, way to lazy to bother with aliases.

Oh Im actually pretty damn good at changing a tyre as well and at 55 years old myself all my cousins are well into.their 60's.

Now back on topic how will it feel to be smaller than Port Melbourne if your CEO's embarrassing proposal gets approved?
You mean theres 2 of you with the IQ of a bag of wet rocks ?????
Staggering

In all seriousness, I still feel that way. Think it's the most accurate representation, rather than a comp with 5-8 sides. You guys have clearly been the dominant force of the AFL era (starting in 1990), along with West Coast. Then us, Brisbane and Sydney

Hawthorn - 5
West Coast - 4
Geelong - 3
Brisbane - 3
Sydney - 2
Collingwood - 2
Essendon - 2
North - 2
Adelaide - 2
Bulldogs - 1
Port - 1
Carlton - 1
Richmond - 1

Melbourne, St Kilda, Gold Coast, GWS and Fremantle - 0

Im still waiting for any evidence that the 7 flags that were voted for were in the top tier competition, how do you know the VFA was a better comp than the SAFA at that stage?

Well we were in it for a start.

Im all for the current status quo as this is the same competition renamed only but it would make more sense only counting the AFL flags than adding flags from a totally different competition.

Celebrate then for what they are VFA flags
