As long as we have Kruez and Phillips on the list, Caz is a must keep.
Both those blokes are to injury prone and he provides invaluable back up.
Not to mention the fact that Charlie seems injury prone, Gov burger prone and Harry seems off with the fairies half the time.

Number 1 is its multi-culturalness. The smells, colours, tastes & sounds of the world. Working class roots, the re-birthed artisan spaces, concerts, arts, community spirit, western oval, fabulous public transport, proximity to the cbd (3ks), cafes, cafes, cafes, markets, festivals, architecture, vic uni, a dirty river and me.

If Gibbs had not played for Carlton but was available as an experienced, injury free mature mid-fielder, available for medium pay and a second round draft pick - would your answer be still the same?

People are distracted by the fact that he chose to go to Adelaide. We still need an additional experienced, mature midfielder. If he was willing to come back, i dont understand why we wouldnt pick him up in a heartbeat

Too old.
Doesn't run hard enough both ways.
*May* go elsewhere for a 2nd rounder. If it's us, they'll insist on a first LOL

He's well and truly on the table for mine.

In contract, so the perception would be of trading a player we'd like to hold, which should increase the perceived value.
Key position(ish), which is an area of need for a number of clubs.
Shown a little, not a lot, but enough that he should be viewed as potential rather than dead wood.
Down the pecking order, with Weitering, Jones, Marchbank, Plowman, Casboult, possibly Goddard, all ahead of him.

I think he's exactly the player I'd be offering if one was required to get a deal done. Benefits us, benefits whoever we trade with, benefits Harrison himself if it means he gets to play AFL.

Happy for him to stay, and no issues whatsoever if he'd prefer to battle away at the NB's and hope a spot opens up for him in the next couple of years - but he's one we can afford to lose and holds some value.
Early 2nd round and Macreadie is massively over for Martin, injury has set him back big time anyway there's nothing wrong with him developing in the reserves for a season or two, can't see why we would move on a talented athletic key defender that has great potential to be part of the back six, who just needs a bit off time to be given away and probably replaced by another 18yr old ...

yes, but his faded edifice still looms large like a dying grandfather over the railway line.............
I remember the old grand cinema in Footscray..upstairs I think on paisley street mum would take us to the movies catch the old red bus from Willy

I never could get into the supercoach thing. The whole concept of wanting another teams player to do well against us was just a bit too much of an anathema.

I have looked at what I can find on Martin. Well he is a neat package but seems hardly essential to our list. If we recruit him I will cheer madly during matches of course but I won't lose any sleep if we don't. I really think we already have players building into that role.
I will put my trust in SOS and the team to do the best they can.

That pretty much sums it up.

I like flexibility on the list.

I like the coach having the option to move the magnets around during games.

I think Martin adds to that, and is a good enough player to justify the spot.

Two key additions - Martin and Papley - gives our list a really dangerous look.

Docherty, Jones, Weitering
Newman, Marchbank, SPS
Martin, Setterfield, Murphy
Kreuzer, Cripps, Walsh
Fisher, Curnow, Papley
Cuningham, McKay, McGovern
I/C from: Curnow, Dow, Silvagni, Gibbons, Plowman, O'Brien, Kennedy, Thomas, Deluca, Stocker, Williamson, Casboult, Lang

Lots of flexibility with that side, multi-positional players everywhere. As far as "Best 30's" go, it's got a lot going for it.

Resounding NO to Gibbs. We've moved well past him. This new team are forging their own path and his presence would be nothing other than a step backwards and a giant distraction.

Agree.

No chance to come back. Adelaide can keep him in the 2s and pay out his contract. A change of scenery back to Carlton is not necessarily going to fix the obvious problems he's having in his personal life.

Lobbe will be off the list, give Casboult some of that cash. I recon we go with Kreuz, TDK, Phillips. Keep Casboult and give him up to 500k for 3 years...it's working.

No way. That's money that gets us either Hill, Martin, Papley, and hopefully *all* 3.

Just to confirm, Catfish as the bluemour didn't actually say Levi to Suns... you mean Martin > Carlton and Levi > Suns?

Was cheering Levi on at the weekend more than justabout any player. I'm so stoked for the guy - heart of gold and copped more s**t than anyone on our list over his time. If he gets a good contract as a reward - with us or the Suns or another, I'm wrapped for him and the family. Will always be a bagger.

Also love the Martin talk - worth our future first and will make us a better side. Guys with his skills are tough to find and would compliment Cripps, Walsh, Ed, Dow on the outside. Has been said above, but he's been stifled doing too much up here on the Coast and will flourish with less inside responsibility.

If we walked away from trade period with Martin and Papley - we'd be nearly set. Still need a good small defender and TDK to come on (Kreuz replacement) but otherwise I'd expect us to rise to top 8 with aplomb next year.

Unclear on where Levi is going. My guess would be the Suns, they need big body players to protect the likes of King.

I really hope Levi stays. But with Krooz, Curnow, McKay, Gov, TDK, Marchbank, Weits, Jones, and to a lessor extent, Kerr and Phillips, we have a few big boys for coverage. For that reason I can see the club letting Levi go if he can't be retained for the right price and term.

Because that's how trading works? You take something you have more than enough of, and trade it for something you need more of.

Firstly - never said an early second and Macreadie for Martin - wouldn't do that either. Don't have a second this year as it stands, and next year's won't be "early".

Secondly - Macreadie is entering his fourth season in 2020, and is behind our three starting key defenders and probably two others. There's also the potential for McGovern and Silvagni to be used in defensive roles in some capacity. He faces the very real prospect of not getting an opportunity to play senior footy for Carlton in the next 3 years.

If Macreadie wants to be an AFL footballer, he may well want to explore his options. He's not critical to our starting 22, he's barely a blip on the radar for depth. Happy to keep him if he's happy here and wants to bide his time, equally happy for him to go elsewhere if it helps land someone who improves the senior side.

It's not about writing Macreadie off as a failure, it's about recognising he is more valuable to someone else than he is to us and using THAT to make Carlton better.

I take it you've never had groin issues? lose your explosiveness, strength in your hips and your balance, also your kicking action generally goes wonky to compensate for the soreness. Harry looks cooked right now, wouldnt be surprised to see him rested the rest of the year after this game.

Yes, I have had groin issues more than once. You don't jump like Harry does, as the supposed best contested, or near enough to it, marker in the AFL if you are carrying groin issues. You just don't. Lets not make excuses for him. Facts are his set shot goal kicking has gone to shit as I said. He isnt cooked, its just a particularly lazy action that he takes no care with.
