If that's what we intend doing with him, why don't we just keep Lang?

And there's a fair bit between this style of play and what we get with Daisy who thrives on the contested game. Just saying that doesn't make him a Daisy replacement.

Ellis the best of the 3 as a pure winger
Daisy is more versatile and has a more rounded game (but easily the oldest)
Lang is......Lang is......not worth keeping

Would laugh for days if our press conference was to announce we are pulling a rabbit out of a hat instead.

We can also advise we will announce the coach at the end of the year.

The whole press Corp would lose their collective minds

Tom Browne just said this on MMM as well.
Smart move by the club IMHO. I just hope that Teague can get the support staff he wants.
Brighter times ahead, GO BLUES!!

He already has a Premiership coach at the club to support him for one thing.

I don't think it's simply a coincidence things happened and changed for the better since Robert Walls was brought back to the club.

Ellis currently has approaches from about 7 clubs. Richmond cant afford to pay him more than the minimum at the moment, their cap is so tight. He had been adamant on staying, but it's looking more and more likely he can't.
He's a decent player, a natural winger who's has played solidly whilst out of position in the back half. As evident by the interest in him, he'd be a handy pick up, especially given he is a free agent and wage cost would be around 450-500.

Collingwood will put the same price on Grundy as we would on Cripps. I just can’t get excited about it.
Collingwood & Carlton just don’t let stars of this caliber drift off to each other, they will do everything they can to keep him or he will end up at another club.

Email just received.
Teague it is!

"We are delighted to let you know that the Carlton Football Club has appointed David Teague as its Senior Coach.

David has signed on to lead our AFL team for at least the next three seasons, becoming the 34th coach in Carlton’s 155-year history.

Having been a John Nicholls Medallist during a playing career that included 50 games in the Navy Blue, David now steps into the senior role determined to coach our great club to success.

Today’s announcement is the culmination of 12 years of hard work for David, who began his coaching journey as a 26-year-old with the Northern Bullants in 2008.

After three years, and back-to-back VFL Grand Final appearances, he then commenced a thorough AFL apprenticeship spanning nine years.

This extensive progression began with the West Coast Eagles in 2011 and included time at St Kilda and Adelaide before returning to Ikon Park where he has been an assistant coach since 2018.

As we know, David was given the opportunity to put his wealth of experience into effect this season when he was appointed interim coach in Round 12.

From that moment he has instilled belief and confidence in our players, as well as showcasing an exciting brand of football.

This has translated into an uplift in on-field performance that has seen us enjoy a resurgence in the second half of the season.

For the last two months the Club has conducted an extensive and thorough process in order to secure a senior coach who was going to be able to hit the ground running and take our football club forward as we look towards to a sustained era of success.

David has shown the ability to build meaningful relationships, not only with his players but his staff and especially our members and supporters. Our entire football club cannot wait to take this next significant step as we work towards our ultimate goal of winning our 17th AFL premiership.

As a club, we congratulate David, his wife Hannah, and their family as we look forward to sharing this journey together.

I look forward to seeing you at the footy on Saturday when we take on the Saints.

Go Blues!"

New Carlton coach David Teague will be in charge of the 'Teague Train' without any direct influence from a controller.

7NEWScom.au understands the club won't appoint an overarching director of coaching or mentor above Teague.
He's shown enough in his brief stint that he probably doesn't need one.

Will Brodie re-signed so he's out...

Until I see Daisy retire, I'm thinking he'll finish his career somewhere else. Still playing great footy and has more to give.

You've got to wonder if the Suns will pick up both Levi and Daisy for 2020. Would add some best 22 support and a couple of extra good blokes to their list.

Still makes me sad to think of both in another team's colours though :(

Deledio has just retired from GWS. Anything think this could mean that Coniglio is staying? Just because a few weeks ago Deledio came out and said players are waiting for new deals because of not knowing whether Cogs would stay or leave... Further to that a Hawk poster has "taken it to the bank" that it is Cogs> Hawks.

Ok, guess it is now time to officially say congratulations David Teague, hope your time in charge is long and successful!

We already have Docherty, Simpson, Newman. We only really need 2 (given guys like SPS, Williamson, Schumacher).

If he's cheap, fine. But we don't need any more HBFs.
Docherty is again no certainty and simpson (if he in fact plays next year) could go down quick or fade. Williamson also is no certainty when it comes to body. And who knows about Schumacher...

Ellis would be a good pick up looking at the list you provided

Possibly, but it’s also possible Deledio wasn’t going to be offered a contract anyway. Has lingering calf issues that don’t let him play more than 12 games a season.

I'm not saying that Lang is as good as Ellis or that we should keep him. If Ellis is a replacement for him then I agree that is an upgrade.

But if Ellis is a replacement for Daisy (even allowing for age) I don't see any upgrade at all.

Seems the reason we are giving Daisy the short shift is age so just consider the following names from his draft and the previous one.....Murphy, Josh Kennedy, Pendlebury, Higgins, Nathan Jones, Hurn, Varcoe, Deledio and Franklin.

How many of those players are having a line drawn through their names?

Age should not be a factor when trimming your list, form should always be the deciding factor and I think that a move on Thomas, for age alone, reduces the very thing we need most..... experience.

Edit: remove Delidio from that list but was from the previous draft.

Scrap Deledio from that list :)
