Deledio has just retired from GWS. Anything think this could mean that Coniglio is staying? Just because a few weeks ago Deledio came out and said players are waiting for new deals because of not knowing whether Cogs would stay or leave... Further to that a Hawk poster has "taken it to the bank" that it is Cogs> Hawks.

Between Patton already gone to the Hawks, Lids retiring, and the AFL "ambassadorial" cash of which there would be a pile of with his name on if he stays, he may well stay.

I think I saw him injured his calf again last weekend in the Hawthorn game. Most likely he (or GWS) realise that his body isn't up to it anymore. Doubt it impacts the Coniglio decision in any way. He would have made his mind up (whatever that is) and would be waiting until after the GWS finals campaign to announce any decision.

But he announces it now, at the same time as the Teague Train rolls into the station.
Coincidence?

You mean like O’Brien?

No criticism of LOB - he's a young player still learning his craft - but he's only had two 20 possession games at AFL level, neither of them this season, whilst Ellis has hit that mark in 15 out of his 18 games this season.

If we're serious about pushing for finals next season, which we should be, we need to be prepared to shift a couple of kids back to the VFL and give their spots to a couple of players in their prime.

Our "best 22" this season:

Simpson, Jones, Plowman
Newman, Weitering, Marchbank
Walsh, Murphy, Setterfield
Kreuzer, Cripps, Curnow
Fisher, Curnow, Silvagni
Gibbons, McKay, McGovern
I/C: SPS, O'Brien, Dow, Thomas
EMG: Kennedy, Casboult, Cuningham, Lang

Making room for Docherty (Simpson) and Coniglio (Thomas) doesn't make us any more experienced, though it makes us "better".

You wanna add in any of Papley/Martin/Ellis though, and it's gonna be kids getting squeezed.

That's not a bad thing - they'll keep for a year or two until their development comes to a point where they're able to out-perform guys like Newman and Murphy, and they can step up again then. And they'll get opportunities at senior level through injury, so it's not like they're being banished entirely.

Don't think Coniglio is the right ethnicity for a multicultural ambassador role in Western Sydney. That would be a much better fit at Carlton.

But the power of the AFL is so great they may just be able to cha ;) nge the ethnic mix of the area

He already is a multicultural ambassador for GWS. They just up his pay packet

Docherty is again no certainty and simpson (if he in fact plays next year) could go down quick or fade. Williamson also is no certainty when it comes to body. And who knows about Schumacher...

Ellis would be a good pick up looking at the list you provided
Newman and SPS are both reliable. We only need 2, the rest are bonus.

Doesn't actually change my point merely highlights the inconsistency of an AFL that reneges on their own agreed Judd/Visy deal but rubber stamps deals that are just as suspicious.

I live in Sydney and spend a bit of time in the west (daughter lives there) and I see no evidence of Coniglio, or anyone else for that matter, making any contributions in that area. It's certainly having no impact on the crowds attending GWS games.

Ellis currently has approaches from about 7 clubs. Richmond cant afford to pay him more than the minimum at the moment, their cap is so tight. He had been adamant on staying, but it's looking more and more likely he can't.
He's a decent player, a natural winger who's has played solidly whilst out of position in the back half. As evident by the interest in him, he'd be a handy pick up, especially given he is a free agent and wage cost would be around 450-500.

I think it's a mistake not to appoint a director of coaching or similar position, unless Juddy, as football director, is planning on being more hands on and a resource Teague can rely on.

What we know about Teague is that he can coach. What we don't know is how he'll handle the management responsibilities that go with the top job. Ratten now admits he took too much on. Bolton struggled after Neil Craig left. I think this is a mistake. At least for 1-2 years get someone in there. I wonder if the reticence around Roos was his negative style of play, at odds with Teague's attacking style. I think Matthews would've been perfect for the job. Hope I'm wrong.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet.

On Adelaide radio this morning Mark Ricciuto was talking about Teague getting the gig and said that the blues will improve a lot next year and then he said the below about Coniglio.

“The blues will add Stephen Coniglio to there midfield, I have this on very very very strong mail”

Roo doesn’t normally mention things without good mail.
