Not sure if this has been mentioned yet.

On Adelaide radio this morning Mark Ricciuto was talking about Teague getting the gig and said that the blues will improve a lot next year and then he said the below about Coniglio.

“The blues will add Stephen Coniglio to there midfield, I have this on very very very strong mail”

Roo doesn’t normally mention things without good mail.
surely someone gets audio for this?

Deledio has just retired from GWS. Anything think this could mean that Coniglio is staying? Just because a few weeks ago Deledio came out and said players are waiting for new deals because of not knowing whether Cogs would stay or leave... Further to that a Hawk poster has "taken it to the bank" that it is Cogs> Hawks.
Yes, great minds think alike. I thought the same. Because if Cogs has decided to stay, GWS can't accomodate another contract for Deledio, forcing his retirement.

Ellis as a free agent should be a no brainier. We have the cash and he's a premiership player. Not the best in the league but he's in the right age bracket for us and provides great run and experience.

Grundy on the other hand would be PERFECT. Arguably the best best ruck and possibly the best player in the game. Would cost a fortune but worth every penny.

Add Coniglio and we're laughing.

All that's left is a quality small forward.

The Coniglio to Carlton rumour is coming from every angle but it’s only August 15th. Even if it’s absolute gospel right now, things are fluid until his signature is on the dotted line.

Agonising 6-8 weeks ahead.
From the sounds of it, a lot of deals are done months/year before it happens.

We need a couple of developed body mids who can run and fill in some of the between the arc holes that appear because the kids are only about 3/4 AFL ready ( Russell has alluded to the lack of proper fitness and time required to get there) - your point on need to cover for Kreuzer has always been well made - a pity Phillips doesn't have the tank to go 4 quarters and like Kreuzer is injury prone...

Lets get serious though : no way collingwood can be stupid enough to let Grundy go- he makes up for some softness in their midfield and is a younger more mobile version of Kreuzer - SOS gets him and it would be a bigger get (in my mind) than Coninglio - get Coniglio AND Grundy? with a decent run of injury - finals for sure - cream on the cake would be a 'real' small forward.

SOS has put together a pile of money and spread the future requirement of salary upgrades very well - so yeah probably in a position to attract some talent - hence clearing air and appointing Teague ahead of schedule makes sense - to provide clarity to target(s).

I hope you are right and we score the two mids we definitely need - if we get Grundy I owe you a bottle of whatever you fancy. :thumbsu:
Yeah, there’s no way Grundy is gettable, the likelihood is so close to zero that you could call it zero. When was the last time a top 10 player in the AFL switched between Melbourne clubs? Especially away from a powerhouse club like the pies whilst they are in a premiership window.

He’s a fantastic player and would be an amasing get, the price of getting him would be astronomical imo. Free agent next year though, he’ll be getting some huge offers and Collingwood will need to make sure they have cap space (I’m sure they will).

Doesn't actually change my point merely highlights the inconsistency of an AFL that reneges on their own agreed Judd/Visy deal but rubber stamps deals that are just as suspicious.

I live in Sydney and spend a bit of time in the west (daughter lives there) and I see no evidence of Coniglio, or anyone else for that matter, making any contributions in that area. It's certainly having no impact on the crowds attending GWS games.

LOL how many bottles did anyone ever see Juddy put in the recycling bin?
Ambassadorial status is pure fiction. Even worse when it's the AFL doing it.

No criticism of LOB - he's a young player still learning his craft - but he's never had a 20 possession game at AFL level, whilst Ellis has hit that mark in 15 out of his 18 games this season.

If we're serious about pushing for finals next season, which we should be, we need to be prepared to shift a couple of kids back to the VFL and give their spots to a couple of players in their prime.

Our "best 22" this season:

Simpson, Jones, Plowman
Newman, Weitering, Marchbank
Walsh, Murphy, Setterfield
Kreuzer, Cripps, Curnow
Fisher, Curnow, Silvagni
Gibbons, McKay, McGovern
I/C: SPS, O'Brien, Dow, Thomas
EMG: Kennedy, Casboult, Cuningham, Lang

Making room for Docherty (Simpson) and Coniglio (Thomas) doesn't make us any more experienced, though it makes us "better".

You wanna add in any of Papley/Martin/Ellis though, and it's gonna be kids getting squeezed.

That's not a bad thing - they'll keep for a year or two until their development comes to a point where they're able to out-perform guys like Newman and Murphy, and they can step up again then. And they'll get opportunities at senior level through injury, so it's not like they're being banished entirely.

Prefer LOB’s left foot over Ellis gaining a few more possessions.

He's actually had a couple 20+ games

You're right there - missed a couple last season.

Point still stands though, Ellis represents immediate impact where LOB is still in the potential/development part of his career.

Ellis certainly isn't high on my list - I think there are better quality and/or value options around. But I don't see a fundamental issue with bringing in a player of his type just because we have kids who can play the role half as effectively, but may get to/past his level down the track.

Improve the starting side, let the talented kids earn their spots as they're able. And if they're not able, then we're not suffering while waiting to find out.

I think it's a mistake not to appoint a director of coaching or similar position, unless Juddy, as football director, is planning on being more hands on and a resource Teague can rely on.

What we know about Teague is that he can coach. What we don't know is how he'll handle the management responsibilities that go with the top job. Ratten now admits he took too much on. Bolton struggled after Neil Craig left. I think this is a mistake. At least for 1-2 years get someone in there. I wonder if the reticence around Roos was his negative style of play, at odds with Teague's attacking style. I think Matthews would've been perfect for the job. Hope I'm wrong.

I think it's less about the individual taking on too much responsibility, and more that the club let them. We've seen it at other clubs too.

It certainly looks as though the club is much better organised on an administrative level than in the past, which leads me to believe we'll ensure the various departments are well managed, with limited overlap.

Definitely curious to see what assistant coaching appointments we make in the coming weeks.

If we're making random cause/effect assumptions - Coniglio leaving dramatically reduces GWS' chances of a flag next season, so maybe he's told the club he's going and Deledio has decided there's no flag to hold out for next year.

Occam's razor - Deledio has managed 31 games in three seasons with the giants. Most likely scenario is he's come to the conclusion his body won't last another season.

Granted I don’t have the history to understand some of the back and forth between posters. I’m sure people have genuine reasons for being snarky at posters etc.

but the appointment of Teague as our new coach is an opportunity for the Club to start fresh and gel together towards 17. As a tribute to that can I suggest we all agree to forgive past differences and move forward with a clean slate?

If a poster is rude going forward call it out. But don’t let past history cloud your view of others. How about afresh start

NO you report it and let the Mods take care of it.

That's what the report function is for!

No change.

Delidio was never playing on.
His body was shot years ago.

Hawk posters were stating that they were getting Dylan Shiel as well.

This time, we should get our man.

ESKIE does love this 😀

ESKIE doesn’t love mother in laws 80th Birthday dinner on Saturday is now a late lunch
Sigh
well you've seen your last game for the season...........that sucks like a dyson.........

Note. If someone is willing to do the hard yards, I clearly recall a credible Carlton poster last year stating that we were strongly chasing rabbit.

We have likely been chasing Cogs for years.

Talk this year reminds me of Tom Lynch last year. Was always going to Richmond, but Hawks were often sprouting they were in the window (which they were not).

Cogs next to Crippa really works.
Crippa >>>>>>>> Tom Mitchell.

Happy to add Coniglio and Ellis as FAs. Of course im keen to send our adelaide pick somewhere for a Papley/Martin type but would be still very happy to take it to the draft if we got the FAs.

Next year is looking good. But its 2021 when it looks great IMO. Lets grab grundy as a FA then
