Brotherly insight:

Would the McLachlan brothers be right or might the Lloyd brothers be right?

(and why the huge change of ❤ for ‘Llordo’?)

it may not actually be our best 22 but it‘s probably more about the highlights and the news breaking marker.

Let's say we do everything perfect off season and this actually happens.

Who's not there? In numerical order as to who would be ready to play right now at the AFL level....Dow, O'Brien, Kennedy, Stocker, Lang (unlikely to be on list), Cuningham, Williamson, Phillips when Kreuzer isn't available, Gibbons and Deluca. Depth is happening. I realise I haven't put in all names, but you can see the point, the wheels have turned. The light is there. Bring on 2020.

Daisy decision has got to be related to Martin (financial at least).

Question is can Martin defend ?

I would leave SPS in that defensive role as he can tackle, smother, run & carry, kick it well and plays with desperation.
Martin is a very good tackler for his size and is much better in the air than SPS. Martin is probably an upgrade as a defender over Thomas and SPS.

Having said that he's a better attacking player than defensive player imo, he'd be a little wasted down back. He's mostly down back from time to time with the Suns because they need medium defenders who can mark. Then he players forward because they need his marking and goal kicking ability. Then they need him on the wing for his run and class. Then they need him on the ball for his inside tackling and ball winning ability.

He's really not settled anywhere with them so it's hard to judge where he would fit in with us, he could be used anywhere. But personally I'd be disappointed if we signed him up to play him in the back line, despite the fact that he can do it well.

So Clarkson has personally spoken with coniglio recently is he allowed to do this

To me this says that the Hawks are telling their fans they have done everything they could.

Agree re their desparation. One minute its how they run a closed shop and then next you have their coach trying to appeal with statements about they could win a flag if Coniglio comes to them - but they still run with CLarkson wouldn't do it unless he knows!! As for Nash, the fu**head just reads this and then uses information from our board to sound like he knows what he is talking about (eg BLues have Martin, Grey and after Papley) -its hilarious to see their dumbass supporters treat Nash like some sort of messiah, and he's lapping it up. He will be gone for all money if Coniglio doesn't go to them. I have no idea where he is headed, and nor do those w***ers over there.

Haha gotta love their logic.

Guys literally saying, and mean it seriously, that hearing no news about Conigs going to Hawthorn is a good thing, because Wright is tight-lipped...by that thinking Hawks are in the box seat to land every single star in the competition, since we haven't heard of it.

Then yeah you have Clarko saying he's spoken to Cogs on national TV and Nash proclaiming that the deal was done months ago...Conigs might end up going to Hawthorn, but no chance Nash knows anything about it.

Would prefer to keep SPS down back and pop Martin on a wing.

Jack has genuine skills in the air, and is a player I'd back in to win a one-on-one contest going down the line. Also has genuine pace and loves to go for a run with the ball, and weights his kicks really nicely to the advantage of forwards.

Samo's agility, composure and vision are much better suited to his new defensive role, allowing him to extract the ball from congestion and move the play forward. Also lays some strong tackles which come in handy in the defensive 50.

I guess that's the thing, we have so much flexibility with these 2 guys and others in our team.

SPS & Martin can both play half forward/mid/half back...we can play them where needed.

Is Jack Martin really that good? Must admit I haven't seen a lot of him but just looking at some of the video footage, he looks a decent player but a few rungs below superstar level. And he's already 24. Can anyone elaborate?

He's trying to play the "good guy, good club" card.

"I've caught up with Coniglio myself because I care about player relationships, we're not going to twist his arm, we'd love all players to stick with their clubs for the good of the game, but if someone really wants to move then we definitely want to be at the front of the queue to welcome them to our wonderful club."

By inference, other clubs don't care about Coniglio as a person, just a commodity, they're going to do everything they can to make him leave his current club, and they don't give a shit about loyalty.

Very talented player who has not really fulfilled that talent. A lot of people argue he's been expected to play a role he's not suited to at GC. Time will tell but imo definitely worth a flyer with a second rounder given potential.

Lots of potential and was very hyped up when he burst on the scene, has largely failed to live up to this hype but he’s a good player who can play a variety of positions. My personal opinion is that he isn’t elite in any position but it seems the hope is, that he has the talent and he has improvement in him, within a better environment.

His worth $$$$$ and trade wise, is currently a lot lower than what he was expecting at the beginning of the year and what I though we would need to trade to get him.

Even though, I would prefer others, he is a good player and will fit in nicely.

Was touted as the next coming of Jesus in his draft year (or the year before, given he was a pre-selection from memory) - "best junior player I've ever seen" was the comment from, I think, GAJ.

He hasn't come on as well as would have been expected. Suffered a serious shoulder injury in his debut game and missed a lot of footy due to the resultant surgery. Still, watching him play, I certainly see a lot to like. Does a lot well, which has probably hurt him a bit as GC have used him all over the ground and he's missed any chance at continuity as a result. Give him a defined role on a wing, with the occasional cameo forward or back, and he'll be a more than handy addition. And at the reported cost of a second rounder and change, that's more than fair.
