I've got a horrible feeling Deluca's days may be numbered if we jag all of our trades.....which I'd be pretty disappointed. I thought he really showed something without a preseason with the club, coming in half way through the season, and playing in a position totally foreign to him.

He's also a better option than a few contracted players we currently have on our list....

Yeah, no contract yet.
I like him. Lacks a bit of goal nous as a forward, but he's played all his footy as a mid. Has good skills, is tough.

Would be a massive waste of the #1 pick in the mid season draft if we cut him already.

Give me the 2015-2017 version of Jack Newnes any day. Was earmarked as the next Captain, but something has definitely gone amiss the last couple of years.
Played out of position alot. They stuck him forward during the season when he is best on a wing or midfield.

I would be very happy with this pick up. Also means we don't have kids getting walk up starts when they should be in the twos

I know Polson is under contract, but I’d be paying him out and delisting him (or for that matter Lang) before getting rid of Deluca.

I should say that Polson and Lang are the only two players on the list that I’m meh about (Goddard is handy at VFL and Finbar needs a preseason). So... that's positive.

I know I'm late but Laurence Angwin has a better chance at break out player of the year than Nick has of being traded to Carlton. 😉

Could do a hell of a lot worse than Jack Newnes.

I felt that way about Aaron Mullett tbh a couple of years ago. Newnes has been a regular whipping boy of Saints fans. Not a fan at all.

Would prefer it if we took a punt on Jamaine Jones tbh, even on the Rookie list.

dorito thinking he can pull it all together with this one weird trick.........
Reckon Dodo is the real estate agent trying to screw every buyer to increase his commissions one deal at a time.

SOS is selling swathes of land to developers at a discount for some parts, if it gets him access to another property he needs to satisfy a different clients request.

One is playing noughts and crosses while the other is playing 3 dimensional chess. Dodo is desperately trying not to give ground at every turn while SOS sacrifices a castle so he can turn a pawn into a queen.

I think the best deal for Carlton is to back ourselves in and let clubs still think we will be no good.

2020 1st round for Papley and 25
25 for Jack Martin

This allows Sydney to trade 5 and Carlton’s 2020 1st for Daniher which will then allow Sydney to realease Papley.

Compromised draft next year. Back ourselves in to make finals.

Go hard late after someone with pick 9 or draft another elite young talent. Can never have enough midfielders

There is merit to this - could hold on to Pick 9 and then on draft day move down by trading it for like Picks 20 and 30 and pick up a Dow or a DeKoning or others.

But we probably will have 2-3 critical needs by the end of 2020 and will hopefully be a destination club by then so will need all the draft currency we can get our hands on to make those trades for a real push for a Top 4 finish in 2021. So having two first rounders and a second and two thirds etc will come in handy. Not sure there’s a 2020 free agent we really need and have a good shot for, but there could be a 2021 free agent we may want to trade for instead.

Maybe I am totally right off track ... but IMHO I believe if we had of kept Eddie and not let him go to the Crows, Yarran and Garlett wouldn't have gone off the rails and left the club. And that is one of reasons why I am happy that Eddie is coming back as I believe he can and will make a real off field difference for the indigenous players we have now and in the future.

Sliding doors moment...
Had Buckley not been eager to take a senior coach role and prepared to leave the Pies
Then McGuire wouldn’t have phased out Malthouse
So when the Blues lost some games due to key injuries and missed Finals we wouldn’t have sacked Ratten and turned to a now bored at home Malthouse
Then Eddie wouldn’t have left
In which case Yarran wouldn’t have asked for a trade
In which case Yarran wouldn’t have had the issues flare up which ultimately led to him being in prison

Ergo Nathan Buckley’s ambition led to Yarran being imprisoned

Meanwhile if all this wouldn’t have happened we wouldn’t have MLG, SOS, Liddle or Teague running the club.

Rogers and hughes still finger painting

If Deluca was to be delisted would questions need to be asked of our approach to the mid season draft considering others clubs’ mid season pickups seem to be being kept on despite us having the #1 pick? With that said I like Deluca and would like to see him kept on for next year at least.
