If Suns don’t trade Martin he will go into psd and we will front load he’s contract..
You called it from way back barass. As a number of us were concerned about, GC were 100% insistent on a prime pick being involved for a player who the vast majority would agree is worth a second rounder. The draft goodies the AFL have them made our offerings far less valuable.

Cameron even said that basically their draft hand is so good that they only want the best. If a player is worth a second rounder, you use the closest pick (our 2020 2nd) as the basis and work from their. They were 100% insistent that a prime pick had to be involved.

I don’t understand how the front loading will work as they take the total contract. It would be very dangerous giving 1 year on ridiculous money to then re-sign for more years at a lesser rate.

Do you know how this works?

Can you nominate for the preseason draft and not the national draft?

Isn't the preseason draft held after the national draft? So what if the Bulldogs, North, Essendon or St Kilda pull the trigger and select Martin before we do?
Pretty sure you can just nominate for the psd

Blues were done over.

Deals were agreed to, then reneged upon and more, much more was sought for both Papley & Martin.

Last night Dodoro was offered pick 9, next years 1st and 2nd by Swans, who were going to seek AFL approval to enable deal to proceed or obtain a future 2nd as part of other deals.

Dodoro has shafted a family member of Essendon royalty who wanted to leave Melbourne for relative anonymity in Sydney.

AFL complicit in the shafting we received by the Gold Coast Suns, told they needed to flex their muscle and harden up.

SOS didn’t fail, at this point he hasn’t delivered the players but he also didn’t overpay.

Very obvious many in here have never been involved in a commercial negotiation of any significance.

Still didn’t have a plan B.

Cheers for the clarity, it's just what most rationable people suspected. I'm happy SOS didn't overpay and im glad we dont have listcloggers as a plan B option.

Just get the best small forward in the draft with pick 9. Someone like Cody Weightman. The kid will flourish under the tutelage of Eddie. Problem solved.
Demons receipt of North’s pick 8 was mentioned as possibly having been motivated by their desire to snatch this kid at pick 8.

people cant change? we just recruited arguably one of the best role models for indigenous people, back him in, and back russell to get his body right and we have a top 20 player in the comp on our hands :thumbsu:

That's a hard no. Don't understand why people are so keen to bring in one of the most unprofessional players of recent years. He has skated by on natural talent and has never had the work ethic to succeed and get the most out of his talent.

How do you know the swans said they would not trade papely? I’ve not heard this. I’m sure if sos said pick 9 and even a future second for him that would have done it? I guess unless we were in the room we will never know. But feeling like we’ve let something big slip...
Media interview just after 7.30.

Already been asked and answered in the last hour twice. Use the search function.

How is that possible?
Only GC & Dees before our pick!

In summing everything up:

Papley - Contracted for another 3 years. Sydney wanted much more than pick 9. That’s way overs and SOS and crew didn’t buckle.

Martin - Gold Coast wanted a future 1st and 2nd round pick for an UN-CONTRACTED Martin and pick 15. This is for a bloke who once has had 30 touches and finished off the year in their reserves. Once again SOS and crew didn’t buckle and we will get him for next to nothing in the draft or PSD.

We received overs for Gibbs. Sos should have paid the king's ransom for Papley for mine. Especially in circumstances where we can draft Martin in the PSD.

You foaming ****ing mouth breathing hypocrites ….. SOS is damned if he does … damned if he doesn't …. WAKE UP kids. There is still more to play out.

Agree. People focus on the fact that Papley and Martin were difficult to achieve. No doubt about that, and that's not why SOS failed. He failed because he didn't improve the list. He didn't do his job. If Papley and Martin weren't working out, he should have gone elsewhere. Poor strategy and negotiation. Unless of course he couldn't find any other player available that would improve the list. I'd find this hard to believe.
Psd, draft delisted free agents...hold ur powder

A lot of the people melting in here at us not getting either trade done would be exactly the same people melting had we caved and met the exorbitant asking prices for them both.

As I've previously stated, a better line of examination is to ask serious questions about us focusing so heavily on two players who were ultimately, for different reasons, unattainable.

My only possible explanation, based on ITK posters info as well, is that in-principal agreements were made and then backflips occurred. Otherwise I struggle to explain how we didn't, to some extent, see this coming.
Yeah but, the media would have been happy and we do u I'd be the winners of trade period. That is what matters most isn't it?

How does the GC comment ring true given what they accepted from the Lions for Ah Chee?

He mentions National Draft twice in the interview on the website. No need for the smart arse bit when you’re the one in the wrong.

"We have a couple of options, whether it's in the national draft or pre-season draft," Silvagni said.

"He's told us that he wants to get to our football club.

"Time will tell."

Direct quote.

How am I wrong?

Do you know if there's an option to pick Martin up as a delisted player without going through the draft?

This has now turned into quite an interesting situation.

Only if Gold Coast sack him, which they obviously won't. So not a DFA.

He delists himself, then gets to name his price, and can choose to either go to the ND, or the PSD.

For us, it would seem that the PSD is a better option. Then he names a price like 1 year/$1Million.

We’re all disappointed but we move on. We can still get Martin in PSD and we get Papley next year.
We’re a strong club where players want to be.
We’ve still got Eddie who’ll be a massive upgrade on our current small forwards.
It could be worse, Joe Daniher was made to stay at Essendon against his will.
Mind you, the welfare of their players has never been a priority at *
