Impossible within an Australian context. You'd see things go to the courtroom the second a player was being forced to a trade against their own wishes, with the backing of the PA behind them.Im hoping eventually clubs have control over players for the first 4 or 5 years before players become free agents, just like most other sports in USA. If clubs want to trade them, ship them off. Time for players to stop being babies and do your 4 or 5 years penance before getting the big $$$$
The old 'players wont agree to it' argument.....well stiff shit. Introduce it from a certain year (those already playing can be on the old rules, within 10 years most will be under the new rules), any player drafted from that year onwards agrees to the terms. Don't like it, don't sign on to be an AFL player.
Might need to have a read of the regs - I'm not sure if a player can stipulate a salary for the ND. PSD, yes, ND, not sure.
Update: Yes.
A Player, (other than a first year draft choice Player or such a Player in his second year), may specify in the nomination lodged pursuant to Rule 6.2(c) the Football Payments which he will require if he is selected at a Draft Selection Meeting.
Same deal as the PSD, but it's a fixed two year contract.
However it does open it up to every other club with a pick prior to the selection we want to take him with. Easier to go the PSD, which we wouldn't otherwise use, and where he only needs to get past GC and Melbourne. I don't think Melbourne would take him, odds are we'll have a discussion with them, as will Martin's manager, and a handshake agreement will be reached where (if necessary) we agree we owe them a discreet favour down the line.
Listening to this I’m 100% we get him. Told Melbourne to bugger off alreadyIs it jacks intention to still get to Carlton, yes absolutely.
His manager

He's not no goodso he's no good?

America has differing labour laws in place, and a different set of precedents surrounding restraint of trade. An Australian courtroom would have a field day the second such a rule was challenged.
And a new coachWe get Betts, Martin for free and a fit Docherty(fingers crossed) ..we will be ok next year.
... which is different from how they usually report our trade periods/drafting how exactly?Ha, nothing wrong with getting a bit emotional
Have you seen the SOS interview, the Angresta interview? They're over the moon... And the media reports? Albeit with limitations, they're not wearing rose-coloured glasses - champ - and they're all reporting a shithouse trade period for the once mighty CFC
So was the whole GCS strategy about posturing in a pathetically stage managed (AFL endorsed) farce to send a message about being tough on those wanting to exit the failed franchise?
Let's just open the Welcome Jack Martin thread now.

Looks like Martin will be walking in the PSD.. I think his manager was pretty clear on SEN about their intentions.. not sure what the Suns were posturing about yesterday

We don't have to offer a two year contract to Martin. We can offer one year, then negotiate after it. Martin is bound for two years, unless we trade or delist, he doesn't have to sign for two years initially.
I predict this is how it will play out.
It's not impossible, just improbable at this stage. Players are not paid enough to provide for that sort of system.
MLB major league draftees get 250k - $1mil dollar signing bonuses and $1 mil a year base salary as 18-21 year olds. They are then locked in for 5-7 years once they are on the active roster and play where they are told to play. They get no say in trades. Their salaries are subject to arbitration after year 2 or 3 so the MLB decides their pay. Not the club.
It could definitely happen in AFL, just not viable yet.
We talking ND or PSD?
I confess, I stopped reading after I gotten past the meat of it. It seemed to suggest that an ND draftee was bound to a 2 year contract, while the PSD could be anywhere from 1 up.
Beautiful pick up by setters. He can be elite..needs to get his body right. Hopefully this preseason.
