Good chance we downgrade pick 9 on draft night, there are 5 guys that we would basically auto pick but the general wisdom is that they will be gone by our pick. Obviously depends on what offers come on draft night

Think it would make more sense to swap into next year draft, give us more ammunition for a free agent/trade push next year.

Next year's draft highly compromised with Academy picks, Father Sons etc apparently. If this is the case, it might devalue somewhat.

(In hindsight, we probs should have taken the 1st round and 3rd round pick on offer and made off like bandits!!😀)

Lol you're not wrong there. But hey, that was our Football Club back then. Lots of terrible decisions.

In no way am I potting b70's rumours. But I'm genuinely curious as to what changed from these two posts. From his confidence, I'm sure there would've been some sort of handshake agreement or essentially an agreement between us and the Swans, or negotiations were looking amazing at the time.

All of a sudden, SOS looks like a genius again. His plan B, get Martin through the PSD for nothing. Where are the melts now?
But what if Melbourne carry out the threat to pick Martin before us in the PSD.......apparently bloody David Schwarz has been saying on radio all afternoon that Martin is gone bluebaggers because the Dees are waiting to pounce!!!

I think he means draft him in the second of the National Draft as opposed to running the gauntlet in the Pre Season

I know but you take a bigger risk of missing out as a few other clubs could take him

In the PSD

GC- Would have to be some huge reconsiliation and if Martin puts a bounty on his head for a year, they could lose him for next to nothing as a FA a year later

Demons - They aren't sitting at 95% of their cap, so they can't match a sizable offer

Then us

Everything you typed is exactly why it's tampering.

Lyons was contracted, and the cut him for the salary relief. In your proposal, they would be cutting Martin in return for a pick trade. No way would the AFL allow it. They have some limits.

Also, why would we do it? Gold Coast have tried to fu** us over. So fu** them, we get him for free.
Fair enough

I'm a simple man my friend. I've had to make my way in life on nothing but my strong, Antonio Banderas like looks, chiseled jawline and superior love making ability.

I'll take your word for it.

😆😆
people don't understand our burden, kophi&naan………..

Is this what ITK's alluded to on previous posts about reneging and intervention?
If this is true then there is the possibility that the AFL also cancels the PSD or blocks our run somehow.
Fat lot of good "taking a stand" will do - they will end up losing the player for zero gain. It's chest beating, and that shit doesn't get you anywhere long term. Need no more evidence than if we pick up Martin for nothing.

Leaving aside the fact that our list is not in the position of being to make an offer that can’t be refused, with all due respect the post shows almost no understanding of the commercial landscape for players in the AFL.

What do you mean by the commercial landscape for players?

We offered a future 2nd and 3rd for Martin and pick 9 for Papley. Both deals fell through. We could have conceivably traded in Papley with pick 9 and a future 2nd and drafted Martin in the PSD and have ended up better off by retaining our future 3rd. So even though in isolation we would have paid too much for Papley, it’s a clear win overall.

Unsure if it’s been posted, but Cochrane is infuriating.

there's being tough and then there's just being a dickhead.

Also notice SOS is always very careful with his words to be respectful of the other clubs, whereas cochrane had no problem giving us a backhander publicly. Tool.

Technically Papley could still be a blue next year ;) just a shame it won’t be anytime before September :(

Unless this is the first season you have ever followed football, there is no excuse for getting angry when a trade falls through. Only a fool would assume any insider rumours are guarantees. There's nobody to blame but yourself for buying into it before the actual "sale" happens.

in fact they can re-tool "we are carlton, **** the rest" and keep it...………..

As per numerous posters, both Gold Coast and Sydney reneged on previously agreed upon deals. Also, even though everybody knows Dodo is a flog, nobody expected him to be stupid enough not to take Sydney's massive overs for Daniher.
