Our membership is not growing because of gimmickry. It is certainly not growing on the back of our new merchandise. It is growing off the back of on field advances and a small taste of success. Many people have contributed. The board has had the balls to back a complete rebuild, Bolts played a key role in turning the culture of the club at playing and staff levels. Unfortunately he did not have the mind set to complete the job, but to date, has had a bigger part to play than Liddle. Teaguey continues to kick goals and is loved by all who come in to contact. The future is going to be a great ride.

Liddle appears to have the skill set to contribute positively to the mix, even steer the ship. He must however remain mindful that he has entered a role significantly greater than he has had previously. Bolts is gone because he was inflexible, and wanted it his way. While obviously not infallible, the biggest contributing factor in our build and on field restructure has been SOS. The ability to create extra top end picks at the commencement of the build has enabled us to have not just enough, but surplus top end youngsters developing, and in some cases developed. Clearly SOS rates the small forward acquisition as secondary to the spine and midfield. We have had a couple of strikes in that area with a couple of throws at the stumps having missed This will be remedied soon enough, and in reality is not as bad as some believe.

Liddle, seemingly is of the belief that he has a better chance of landing players than the professionals. Undermining SOS and the rest of the team is unforgivable. Missing Coniglio, Shiel and Papley is no slight on any individual at our club. I am confident that soon enough this will become a blessing in disguise. Success off the back of predominantly home grown talent will be oh so sweet. Liddle needs to stick to what he does best and let the other lead players do the same.

SOS has been a great of the club on and off the field. There are obvious challenges to his ongoing role with his sons on the list. I would wager that Jack and soon Ben are shorted a bit of coin with Dad's desire to be seen as "impartial". If Stephen and the boys can rationalise his ongoing involvement, our management and supporters should embrace his contribution past, present and future.
Excellent post.

I think people are exaggerating the comments that have been made, and perhaps even the intent of Liddle's actions (assuming that they weren't lead by Agresta or Lloyd).

My impression of the ITK is that SOS was unhappy with the course of action, but nothing more explosive. The HS write-up leans towards Liddle applying pressure to seek bigger name signings to attract more interest.

In that respect, we got Eddie in a much better deal than originally anticipated, and that should work out OK if he's able to eke out 10-15 games this season. If he outperforms those expectations, great.

Away from that, we don't need overpriced senior reinforcements, we need stars in very specific positions, assuming we don't have a few pop up from within the existing list, or through our 2019 draft hand. Of particularly note is the need for a running defender, and a balanced midfielder who can consistently impact at the clearances and assist Cripps.

We had a dip at Coniglio and the AFL had to intervene to prevent it, and in terms of the other we have Docherty and Williamson returning, with the possibility of Ash or Young at pick 9, or perhaps even someone like Gould if we want to trade down a tad (though I'd prefer to develop him as an inside mid if possible).

I think we should take the level to which this has gone to with a grain of salt, but I remain unimpressed with Agresta's work, with our late picks and DFA hauls improving from bizarre mature picks to average mature picks.

This times 100, the hate/language directed towards Liddle by some here is pretty dam low and it would be the total opposite if the roles were reversed.

So what if Liddle pushed for big name signings, so did SOS, we missed out, this is normal stuff.

Whether it's a journo or someone internal, our clubs name is yet again being dragged through the mud by those seeking to tell the story their way.

Of course, it sells papers, gets Carlton fans in an absolute frenzy, gets the haters interested and keeps the media machine rolling.

The differences the club are dealing with are not as big as many are flapping on about.

No recruiter is perfect, any that have a better than 60% strike rate are elite, especially when you incorporate draftees, rather than purely trade acquisitions

Liddle has helped improve our numbers, but that was always going to rise. He is merely an impatient salesman, that should steer clear of list management

When in doubt, you cut your losses early and quickly, move Liddle on now. If Lloyd wants to dip his toe in, he can follow

By the same token, how many list managers drafted both their own sons??

Just sayin’

That's always a difficult situation. Best way to analyze that is comparing players taken after Jack, like all drafts some hits and mostly misses. Dodo might be a knob, but is no fool, so placing a bid late in the 4th round may also justify the selection

Too early in regards to Ben, but he will play more footy than many taken before him

I know mate.👍
I was pointing out that whether it were Caro or posters on here airing dirty laundry, it's ultimately our club that's worse off for it.
Many organisations face similar issues but the majority manage to deal with them in-house, in this case I hope that egos can be set aside for the greater good of our footy club.

“Fail fast” they call it

Take a step back. What are we? What are we if not the people who have made the club? Who bled for it? Do we not identify with THEM? Isn’t that who we are?

Do loyal foot soldiers deserve respect? Like all people do. But the Silvagni family? Especially so. I bawled my eyes out at Stephens 300th. And again at his last game. I nothing short of weeped when his son ran out for the first time.

Doesn’t Stephen deserve more than have potential recruits be brought to the club without his knowledge? Like anyone in that role would deserve more. But fu**. It’s an insult. Whether you like it or not he IS a lot more than List Manager to us.

He IS us. We ARE him.

Show him some God Damned ******* RESPECT. Else you don’t respect ME. You don’t respect US. You dont respect what we stand for.

Do NOT tear down the walls by burning the wood from which it has been made. Do NOT. You will NOT. Not on my ******* watch. Not this day. Not this time.

He’s Stephen God Damn ******* Silvagni campaigner. Show him some RESPECT.

All this because he toured a player, seems excessive.
SOS is the list manager, nothing more, what he has done in the past for our club and what he has achieved means absolutely zero, when it comes to his current job and if he doing it well (which I think he is)

To suggest he somehow should get more leeway, have less accountability, is above criticism because he’s a Silvagni is some of the most entitled BS crap I’ve read and is the type of garbage we have been trying to free ourselves from.

He shouldn't get a free ride and I have been critical of some of his selections in the draft and many of the additions/late picks, predominantly the likes of Shaw, Mullet and Silvagni when selected at the time

But, having the likes of Liddle and possibly Lloyd, interfering/undermining list strategies, is unacceptable

Agreed, well it depends on what Lloyd’s actual job is and what it encompasses. We as a forum have blown this up so much bigger than it actually is, it’s wuite embarrassing.

ha ha. No.. when it is speculation built on speculation, built on speculation it is blanket garbage to me.

Things that actually have foundations of reality is where discussion is worthy and you find I discuss.

I see the errors of my ways. I didn't mean to frame it as a request.

Totally agree, lots of emotion on display today, quite disappointed with a few lines like, I thought Liddle was doing great until, insert ITK, said they’re a moron and now I hate him.
Yep. Time to calm the farm and allow the process to run its course, come what may. Sum is greater than the parts.

What seems to be escaping so bloody many is that Liddle also has the easiest job in the world thanks to SOS(and team).

This spot on. Liddle has a my way or the highway mindset, acquaintances of his that have worked with him and have known him for a while have mentioned when he was appointed that he is ruthless and more inclined to throw you under the bus if you don't see things his way. He should stick to his area of responsibility and not interfere in list management and recruitment.

If there is disagreement within SOS'S team The message the board and senior management should be giving is that SOS is in charge and they need to back and obey him, ultimately his performance will be measured at the appropriate review. If the results expected were not achieved then a call can be made and i am sure SOS will accept this.

But if Liddle is undermining him and encouraging mutiny in the ranks below he is not the man for the job regardless of how well he did at Richmond. SOS DOES NOT NEED ANY DIRTY POLITICS IN HIS LIFE.

I’m interested in what’s changed from a couple of weeks ago when this raised its head.

I recall some itk saying that the club is bigger than the individual or something to that tone when I asked if they wanted sos to stay.

Now we have some big hitters all coming in supporting sos.

Didn’t they know back then what was going on.

Seems odd that after the papers go full blown that they come out and support.

How on earth wasn’t sos privy to Ellis and Papley early days?

Something very weird is happening.

So a couple of our better credentialled ITKs have SOS remaining at the club post the Draft.

There may well have been a clash of wills someone where along the line but it would be fair to suggest that if SOS continues on at the club those in the media who have tried to turn this into a major chasm at our club will again be shown to be parasites & will owe SOS, Liddle, Lloyd an apology & the club generally a massive apology. I will be watching for this very closely.

In retrospect, it seems that Ellis’s manager may have been justified in his criticism of the Blues; about there being confusion as to who was actually directing list management and recruitment at CFC.

I also wonder whether, and if so to what extent, other clubs knew of CFC‘s purported “every ones a list manager” approach during the trade period. I hope it didn’t contribute in any way to GCS‘s alleged back tracking on the Martin deal late in the process.

Read my post again. I said nothing about leaving him alone or not being accountable. Nothing. My post was about respect. I didn’t suggest what you thought I did at all. Don’t call my posts BS if you neither properly read them or understand them.
