Incubation of the virus is about 14 days, the positive today was contagious when he attended the rally but didn’t get it there, but the likelihood of there being a sharp rise in cases in the next two weeks is very high.
The VAFA like many leagues are waiting for the June 22nd announcement, today’s first case means there is likely to be a delay as they wait two weeks to determine the fallout. Should there be a sudden rise as expected, restrictions won’t be eased and footy is off.
And that’s before we have to wait another two weeks after this weekends rally to see any fallout as they are now planning more rallies because they didn’t piss enough people off last weekend!

Your science is wrong. Viral shedding is greatest between day 4 - 8 of contagion. There may have been 10k people there but the guy did not go and sneeze on 10k people. It is not possible that any of the people he was in close contact with at the rally could pass on the virus at the rally (if they become positive for the virus, which is not a given) as you are not contagious in a meaningful way until around day 3. The consequence of one virally laden person being at the rally is not dire, it is what happens with the individuals that MAY have been infected (lets say between 5 -10 people) do post Tuesday (day 4 of their exposure).
The possibility of a spike in cases due to the one individual is not very high at all. There would have needed to be a multitude of spreaders there and we would need to be societally ignorant to all the measures that have "flattened the curve" for there to be a sizeable lift in cases.
All that said the concept of 10k people attending a mass gathering during a pandemic is a portent for the future. It ain't so bright and nor are we.

No, apparently these protests are more important than the health and economy of all Australians.
Protesters there said the 400 aboriginal people who had died in custody in the last 30 years, 50% through natural causes and 30% through self harm, were more important than the 100 people who has died from Coronavirus in Australia this year alone. They also said George Floyd was more important than Justine Damond but this is for the politics forum.
Basically these protestors have decided right now that protesting is more important than anything else in the world and they don’t care about anyone but themselves.

18.4% of deaths in custody in Australia are aboriginals, who occupy 3% of the population.
Basically you're upset that we might not have a local footy season because people stood up for social inequality

Some might think that getting through the pandemic and protecting the most at risk (ironically this includes the indigenous population) is a fight worthy of patience and selflessness? Apparently a group of people considered their rights to protest and express their views more important than the potential health risks to those they are protesting for. Add to this they expected to be exempt from criticism in reference to a COVID safe environment.
To eradicate racism is a fight worth having but surely we could have waited 3 or 4 more weeks (and the cynic in me says that those more interested in their Insta gratification for attendance may have lost their enthusiasm to attend)?
No one would sanely suggest local footy is more important than the fight against systemic inequality BUT the immediate protection of the health and wellbeing of the broader community is (at least in the very short term which is all we needed).

1. no more deaths from COVID - Done, Not one for over a week. 16 people in Hospital Australia wide. 2 in intensive care. 430 active cases.

The local footy season was going to struggle to get going regardless. Look at the leagues who cancelled already. The protest cannot be blamed for footy not starting or a delayed start. I suppose there is no separating sport from social justice and politics and nor should there be. It's a shame that the BLM protest gets blamed for non return to footy when we all know that local footy was already going to struggle to get going this season (costs, insurance, waining interest, additional work required)

That’s where I’m getting confused, it’s not about the treatment of Aboriginals in police custody, it’s those damn racist police for arresting them when they break the law, gotcha.
99% of Australians are upset because those selfish few decided to try and undo all the hard work and sacrifices made by everyone to try and beat this virus.
NFL,EFL,AFL Barwon and Heathcote District Football Leagues all cancelled. None because of BLM protests. There is significant issues to overcome before local footy returns. Yes, the waning interest and additional work might aspects may be arguable.

One bloke had the virus at the protests that we know of. He wore a mask all day.
There were no new protest linked cases today - More good news for footy.
Things still trending in the right direction for a VAFA return on 11 July which is what matters most
The cancelling of other leagues is unfortunate and not that helpful, but the key difference between them and us is that their clubs didn't want to play a season. From what I can see on here it seems pretty clear that a majority of VAFA clubs want to get back on the field.
So all we can do is push a positive message and keep the faith in the VAFA committee, who seem to be doing a pretty good job of listening to the clubs IMO!

The protest could be a good thing. It might prove one way or the other if it is time to ease up on restrictions. If there are no more infections coming out of the rally over the following 2 weeks then we may be able to get back to a more normal way of life. That could mean crowds at the footy.
In hindsight it would been better if the organisers had instructed attendees to install covidsafe on their phones before attending.
If crowds are allowed back to footy games then supporters should be told to install it before attending a game, because if something does happen to one of your supporters it's more likely to be your members that would be infected, simply because of the people they will be mixing with. I would want to make sure anything I could do to reduced the potential effect on my club was done.

The national cabinet has recommended by mid July no outdoor restrictions that is even better than what was predicted 4 weeks ago.
Victoria has conducted over 572,000 tests (second to NSW with over 606,000 - positive test rate 0.5%)
with a positive % of 0.3 the best in the country
