It's really not that difficult.

If the opposition is flooding back, then tie them up with a couple of talls and the ball doesn't go there. Have someone lead (doesn't need to be a tall ffs), lower the eyes and hit them up 35-40 out. Or look crossfield to a tall with a couple of smalls in attendance.

If Freo can do it, surely we can.

Solid without being a big impact. He looks to play a decent role and understand the team workings. Cameron was quiet but early days - tough for forwards when bomb it long to the pocket.

Be very interested to see how many of those ROB possessions were marks in the defensive 50 when they were 5-6 goals down.

He played quite well, but when the game was there to be won in the middle, NN did an absolute number on him

Meh, I'd take Naitanui's effort when he won the hit out in the last and then had four efforts to push the ball forward into the forward pocket (without getting an actual stat fyi) over the combined total of all of O'Brien's touches today. O'Brien had no clearances for the whole game. As the primary ruckman that is astounding.

Nic had a great sequence in that last quarter where he got a hand in to smother/intercept/knock an Adelaide possession about 3-4 times in a row and just willed it forward. We ended up getting a look at goal we had no right to, not sure if we scored. He sure as hell didnt get any stats, but if you want to keep measuring him with stats then go for it. I'll use my eyes thanks.

You don’t ever measure Nic’s impact by just raw numbers. He’s a clearance monster. The best ruck in the game in the actual ruck contest, hit outs to advantage and clearances. He’s not your Grundy/Cox type big. He’s different.

Can’t wait til Shuey is back next week, he’s gonna dominate Lobb and feed Shuey the goods all day.

Technically it's 2-3 in Qld, the first game was at Optus. Regardless, you are right, coming home at 3-3 is OK after losing 3 on the trot.
Still think we are a better team than GC and Port, and it is disappointing to lose both of those badly.

But haven't GC absolutely ravaged the draft over 2018 and 2019. There is no way they should have got the compo pick #2 for Anderson. Getting Lukosius, Rankine and King in 2018 was enough, getting Anderson as well as Rowell (+ pick #11) gave them 5 top 10 picks in two years. We haven't had any for a decade (2011-2020).

A ruckmans job is to win the ruck first and foremost. Disposals aren’t a priority for them.

If you can do both - then great, but I’d rather a ruckman who gets 24 hit outs and 7 disposals than one who gets destroyed in the ruck but gets more of the ball.

Plenty of upside I would say, he's only feeling his way. What would he be like with size and confidence?

How many of our midfielders would slot the goal like he did?

Reductive view point.

Nic smashed him in the place that matters (ruck work) and overall affect on the game (agreed).

However Riley has had more of an impact around the ground. Adelaide have been overwhelmed as a team but Riley has taken some very important marks in defense to cut off our inside 50's.

For what it's worth. Give me Nic every time but objective stats, while not indicative of overall game impact necessarily, still tell a story.

Nic's ruck work was glorious. But Riley was better around the ground.

Getting cheap stats around the ground isn't impactful at all, if it were, it would have effected the outcome in some way.

Nothing he did altered the game in any significant fashion, therefore, he had no real impact around the ground.
