Collingwood got off to a fine start to hub life in Perth to prevail by 22 points against Geelong. The Magpies applied excellent pressure and structured really well behind the ball in defence for the bulk of the evening. Whenever the Cats threatened to challenge for the lead, the Woods were able to stay afloat and keep their heads above water with enough goals to stay ahead, before ultimately closing the game out in style to reap the rewards.

Collingwood's next game will be on July 26 (Nathan Buckley's 48th birthday) against West Coast at Optus Stadium. Pressure, footy smarts, positioning and conversion will be essential ingredients to getting a victory over the Eagles.

You can get that by changing the step up all the time, direction of the players, to get that space. But the main thing is you have to be on the move, that’s why swanny was effective

Yeah you are. In fact, apart from De Goey both coaches gave the rest of their votes to completely different players.

I can't agree with the frequent criticism of Callum Brown. He gets caught a bit because he is not quite as fast as he thinks he is, but he will learn his limitations there. He is already better than when he started. He is also a very balanced and elusive player. He is not fully adjusted to the ability of opponents to anticipate him, but he is improving in this all the time. Another year or two and opponents will be struggling to lay a glove on him. He has no confidence in his goal kicking at present, but is technically sound. He does have the capacity to kick passes off his running line and outside his straight ahead view with accuracy and purpose. Be patient.
I see Noble in the same light, even though his skills are different. He has played most games, and played them well since he came to the club as a mid season draftee. We need to remember that these players are the ones that weren't considered good enough at draft time. He has done amazingly well, and should improve a lot with experience.
