I can't really remember the last big bodied u/18 forward that's actually turned out any good.

Probably Hogan. Before that, Tom Lynch 9 years ago and he was a fairly athletic string bean.

Boyd and Patton looked like future champions and for various reasons have turned out duds. Boyd was unbelievable as a 17 year old.

The strike rate for picking a decent key tall in the top dozen or so picks in the last decade is about 15%. Buyer beware.

However, knowing that, McDonald probably because the next Carey......

Naughton - hit - was a string bean, not a power forward.

Boyd - bust (im not copping a 1 game career, was hopeless for the majority of it)

Patton - injury bust

Logue - is just coming good

Weitering - coming good.

Schache - bust

Francis - bust

Weideman - bust

H.McKay - jury out. Certainly no champion imo.

Hipwood - decent enough

Himmelberg - see above

Marchbank - meh

Durdin - bust

McCarthy - meh

Danniher - hit

Jaksch - bust

Longer - bust

Tomlinson - meh

Sam Day - meh

Tom Lynch - big hit.

Even someone as good as Luksious was (not that he was a big body), looks like ending up as a CHB or rebounding 3rd tall defender.

All the best ones Moore, Danniher, Lynch, Weitering (to an extent) were all highly, athletic skinny KPP prospects.

If the misses keep going the way they are, they will get relegated down the order similar to ruckman were 7 or 8 years ago.

We need mids but we have holes all over the ground. In other words we're miles off it. He looks like a 600 goal CHF. If he's the best, we take him.
If we were set to pick him up at 2nd pick. I wouldn’t be against trading Brown out for the extra picks. As much as I like Brown I just can’t see him part of our next premiership tilt in 4-6 years.

McDonald does look pretty athletic.

McDonald will turn out better than Ugle-Hagan, IMO.
Far out....really? If that's the case we should pick McDonald. Last year, when I saw Ugle-Hagan play he was the best forward I have seen for a long time...will be a star!

I fully expect him to rocket into pick 1 contention before long, and it's only the 'unknown' factor of JUH missing the year that will keep McDonald from being the obvious #1 pick.

Kid has it and plenty over in WA have known for a while.

Special performance from Logan McDonald for Perth today. Rocketed into our first pick contention. I’ve watched the last half of this game, he’s outstanding
Just saw his highlights. If his form continues there is no way he is getting to our Dees pick - WA boy - won’t get past Freo.

Agree he looks outstanding.

This is why picking footballers never has been, and never will be, a numbers game.
