No but it goes to show that even when you have the ball on a string and the opposition is chasing you they still manage to win the free kick count! How’s it possible to dominate a game and lose the free kick count by 8?

The opposition has more opportunity to infringe on you when you have much more of the ball. Yet in that game miraculously the bulldogs were saints and gave away 8 less free kicks?

Spare me seriously they’re costing us games and serious momentum swings and it’s blatant direction against us

What a load of nonsense. You just highlighted a game where we won comfortably after losing the free kick count. Let that sink in

Next you will be saying they influence Teague's lack of decision making to stem massive point swings against us

Just like last week. Gave up a winning position and caved in .
No leadership, Murph, Cripps, Curnow, Docherty, and to a lesser extent Simpson.
How about trading Cripps while he has some value to the Dockers, two first rounders, or a first round and a decent player. Get a couple of experienced mids who have played finals.
Season is now shot, play Dow, McCreadie, B. Silvagni, Honey, Philp, L. O'Brien, Ramsay.
Rest, Murphy, Cripps, Curnow, Simpson, Docherty, Newnes.
Very disappointed with the club. 20 years of failure and still a losing culture that runs very, very deep . The club does not stand up for itself to the AFL, poor president, never hear from him.
Years behind St.Kilda and Brisbane in re build and culture.
Yes, we have lots of injuries, but are they injury prone when recruited? C. Curnow, McKay, McGovern, Cunningham. Russell isn't doing any better than his predecessors in keeping players on the park.
Teague? I dont know, get Hodge. At least he would tuffen them up.
Sorry for the rant, but I have had just about enough of this crap from the club I love.

Was this really the week?

We lost by 3 goals and change to the premiership favourites, at their home ground, with 5 of our best 6 forwards missing for the bulk of the match, when our boys haven't slept in their own beds in 6 weeks. Even in those circumstances, we controlled the game for large periods of time, had to contend with some contenious umpiring that went the other team's way, and still walk away ruing our missed opportunities...

Last week was the one that got away. Expecting us to chase one back against West Coast in Perth was setting yourself up for disappointment, to be honest.

Unfortunately, we're still in a transition period. Murphy, Simpson, Curnow - they still have to step aside. But if you were watching today, you would have seen De Koning, Cottrell, Fisher, Kennedy, Setterfield, Walsh - all adding something to the mix.

At least lets save the flagellation for the really bad losses?

Well that worries me, two players specifically recruited as midfielders SPS and Fisher not being developed for the roles they were recruited for.
We brought Newnes in as a bigger bodied mid which we needed but trouble is he aint that good .
Then of course Murph is in the middle and really cant play anywhere else .
Walsh on a wing Cripps of course so i guess they feel they are forced to play these players elsewhere .
The sooner Murphy is moved on and 1 of SPS or Fish take his place in the middle the better imo .

Loving the melts on the coach... are supporters expecting a flag this year... we put up a great fight. Missing a forward line of Charlie, Gov, McKay, Martin and Cunners, have a think about that for a moment!!!
Please no melts but shifting Pinto into the ruck when Dking was doing so well was coaching 101 and Ttrain screwed the pooch

The Club .......on Fox in an hour.

Get Laurie Holden on the case.

Played with a bloke like Geoff Hayward.
Big strapping bloke with heaps of natural ability and kicked like a mule.
Not sure the game was the be all and end all to him at the time though as he once enjoyed a cup of coffee while resting in the goal square.
Knew his footy though and a great, fun guy ...

Give him the role of Jack Martin for the next few weeks (mid/fwd) and put Polson back in defence as a genuine small defender. Alternatively give Codral the defensive post and bring Dow into the midfield.
Man, Polson had to wear a nappy last year when he was getting games, every time he got his hands on the ball he dead set shat himself lol.

Cripps goal kicking is so deflating this past 5 weeks -- each game he gets an opportunity to swing momentum back and he fluffs it -- Jack Martin has been guilty of a few also .. worst part is they all in the corridor -- and when we lose momentum sides go end to end from kick in to easy-- honestly when cripps is kicking we should be setting up for the kick

Time for maybe gibbons and possibly newnes to step aside and see what paddy dow and marchbank can do. Martin out for mckay

Let’s be clear, the umpiring didn’t decide the game today, WCE were too strong in the end.

I sort of disagree, thought the umpiring gave them momentum at critical times and/or non decisions which should have resulted in easy goals to us were not given, we could conceivably be 5 goals up at halftime, but the better, overall more chiseled and experienced team won, as expected on their dungheap

Both sides got a few lucky breaks - Crippa’s dodgy hand pass to Curnow was missed and ended up in a goal; not sure what Setters free was for; and Gibbons running in to block a defender allowing an easy mark for Levi was missed.

Umm yes, there are always a few free kicks missed both ways in every game of football. It is the quantum and location and timing of the decisions which influences the flow of the game, and thereby the outcome

And yes WCE had a few lucky breaks, the non decision to Ryan amongst others.
Amongst MANY others

But this HTB rule/interpretation today had me confused. Is prior opportunity relevant, or do players need to pretend to be making an attempt to dispose by writhing on the ground like a dolphin and beating their chest repeatedly with a fist?

This last part is so important. I'm confused, you are confused, the umps are confused, the commentators are confused. what ever happened to the basic notion of aussie rules, that the bloke making the play at the ball gets the protection? It has totally reversed, now it is an advantage not to be first to the ball, and be the tackler. It results in either a free to the tackler or a stoppage. Rarely a free to the player trying to win the pill.

If only Cripps took that chest mark 20m out directly in front in the 3rd qtr , what a horror watch that was :'(

Defining moment for me. Every time we have these 30-40 point swings they are usually triggered by a simple Blues miss or error that results in an oppo goal up the other end... then flood gates open.

And you can’t help but feel that the one extra goal could have been the game changer. It’s the sliding doors moment.

Dont know, i was watching sps get caught holding the ball (twice of which resulted in wce goals) and kicking these useless short 15-20m kicks, while our mids get out, causing the opposition to catch up to our mids. What were you watching?
Yes what is it with our exits always sideways first short then opposition set on our half forward for the turnover-- not just SPS either -- only weitering looks to drive the ball on exit

Nope.

The problem is you can beat Carlton with a 10-minute burst, and that's why nobody's really scared of us. Every team we get in front of 100% believes they can still win. And because of that, they usually do.

How very disingenuous of you.

Leave him forward while TDK was st least breaking even
And our forward line falls even further apart. Pitto is a brave throwback ruck. Can't do much other than ruck. For the rest of the season, or close to it, play TDK as ruck and let him learn Tim English style. At least we will know where the boy sits in the plans at best, he wins ruck contests, clunks marks and grows his tank.

A bit off the tangent you commented on, I know. Maybe shows a bit about Teague's slow response time too.

I trust your opinion windows - who would you drop/promote?
If speed is the issue, then Polson and/or LOB would be my picks - but then their 1-on-1 defence could be an issue. I see it doesn’t hurt Daniel or Laird, being so much shorter than their opponent vast majority of the time.
Interested to hear your thoughts on a new back 7 setup.
Oh thanks for the endorsement. I would try Philp at half back. Perhaps his kicking needs confirming it is adequate. But I watched every play of his last year in U18, and a lot of his in preseason, and I think it’s good enough. It’s the ‘run down/shut down’ we need. Id be tempted to try LOB too. He isn’t electric I’m the first ten but id back jim to run any player inthe comp down over 80. I think he’s better over head than people think too. Long term (hate to say this and ignite a blue) but I’m super confident Jack Silvagni will be a backman. And despite not being quick his desperation and anticipation would do the backline the world of good. Pretty sure his opponent wouldn’t take chest marks in one on ones either...
