bit rich blaming bolton for sps and his awful performances of late................
Like I said to a poster earlier, I think SPS is a bit timid - he was a boy drafted to the other side of the country with no family here.

I just think he wants to do the right thing 100% of the time (who doesn’t) and exactly what the coaches are telling him but isn’t relying on his natural talent and instinct. I’d go as far as to say his game is mechanical - it doesn’t work for him.

I think his form is between the ears and playing out of position. I don’t know... could be a plethora of reasons but we know he can set the world alight when he’s allowed to play freely. The confidence isn’t there right now.

no intent to bolt-bash (I think he’s laid the foundation strongly) but I think the uncontested, defensive and “don’t make mistakes” has played a part in his game style at the moment.

I’m hoping we get to see more of the glimpses we saw in his first season. Backed himself and talent to burn!

I'm not sure it's all about Cripps' weight. To my eye, there is something clearly bothering him.

Seems to me that Russell built up the players for one type of season and the competition was handed over another type of season.
That may be wrong, but whichever way now there's been a little time for adjustment and if indeed our fitness base has been cranked up via the pre-season, we should start seeing the effects of that if other teams start tapering off.

Its nothing to do with his weight at all.

Fyfe stands off contests and hits them on the move. Cripps stands under the contest wrestling. Yes sometimes hes unfairly held but more often then not he initiates.

He needs to just run straight lines and play the ball.

For those interested in the stats:

Walsh’s last 6 weeks Champion Data rating has him operating at Top 30 in the comp standard. Very hard to do on the wing as they only classify you as ‘mid’ and compare you to other mids.

I think he’s in better form now than last year. Him playing wing is a ‘bad for him, great for the club’ decision.

He’s playing the role perfectly

He’s rolling back when needed at the stoppage and then pushing the ball forward for us in open play.

I’d love to see him in for a few centre bounces once we get Murphy out of there

Every week we cop decisions against us, and we don't get the paid the ones that are there.

It's a disgrace, the umpiring is the biggest joke.

But that was a massive effort by us, we need to keep this momentum up and we may just make finals.

That kick by Newnes was goal of the year split the middle of the sticks, 50/50 on each side, under pressure.

Annoyed it's not worth watching the whole game again.
Apart from that
Can I get a hallelujah brethren?
What a night it was for Baggers.

Cripps has never been one to get pushed around the way he has for a part of this season.
He'd generally ground himself and one couldn't move him, yet he's getting bumped out of the contests all too easily, for now.

Something just isn't right.

kicked direct to opposition players on several occasions tonight - by hand as well - don't know what's going on with him but he's too good to be wasted back there
Wasn’t his best game but I don’t think it was as dramatic as some believe
I think he holds his spot gets to work through it but I would like to see Him and in more attacking area of the ground with a bit more space

Doesn't that say the ball should of come back to doc?

15.12 FREE KICKS AFTER DISPOSAL
(a) Subject to Law 15.12(b), a Free Kick will be paid against a player who
makes Prohibited Contact to a Player who has disposed of the football
or Prohibited Contact to a Player who is Shepherding a Player who has
disposed of the football. The Free Kick shall be taken by the nearest Player
to the location where the football touches the ground, or crosses the

by the Player against whom and at the location where Prohibited Contact
was made.
(b) If a field Umpire is satisfied that a Player tackles, holds (either the body
or playing uniform) or makes high contact against an opposition Player

from taking part in the next act of play, if it is a greater penalty than would
otherwise be provided by Law 15.12(a), the field Umpire shall award a free
kick and a Fifty- Metre Penalty to that Player’s team.

P.s. Gee, De Koning showed a lot.
I like Darcy and thought De Koning would be worn down by the bigger man, but he just got better the longer the game went on.

Very impressive for a 4 gamer. Lots to like.

Agree Harks. Watched the game again this morning and gee he was impressive. He was often in really good positions to get the handball receive but wasn’t used. He’s going to develop into a beauty.

Lovely sentiment by Seb.

And he has right, if nothing else, Jack Newnes will be able to tell his kids and grandkids about his legendary goal after the siren against Freo, which has etched him into Carlton and Footy Folklore.

My two cents on some of the players:

Curnow- some were calling for him to be dropped due to his poor use but proved again why he is critical to our midfield. Tackles, digs in and gets it going forward for us and is still a key player
Cripps- tried hard inside and less fancy staff outside. Missed some targets going inside 50 but got back to the things that made him a champion in the first place
Docherty- starting to work his way back to some form and generally used the ball well coming out of defence. Kicked one of the worst floaters I ever seen and it worked a treat.
Cottrell- looks like we found another Robbo. More than enough to work with going forward and adds some desperately needed mongrel.
TDK- shows some good glimpses. Good follow up that probably wasn't rewarded with possessions due to the conditions. Will be an interesting choice between TDK and Pitto. Seems like opposition ruckman almost always have a blinder vs Pitto and TDK's upside is clear which us supporters are always going to favour. Teague has a big call to make when Pitto is fit.
Kennedy- went missing for large chunks of the game with no touches in the first quarter and seems to have little impact in the contest. Would like to see Dow get his run in the middle
Honey- can see the talent that posters were talking about in preseason. Keen to see more
Plowman- was moved onto Fyfe after quarter time and shut him down. Got his job done again. Hitting 26 years now and starting to see the blunders disappear from his game.
Weiters- not helped by the umps but probably beaten today given the conditions. Still a beast
Teague- would have like to see us do something about Ryan who got 14 intercept possesions. Given the conditions we were always going to go long from the contest and whether it was asking Casboult to be more accountable for Ryan or something more creative felt like we should have done something. In a game we dominated after quarter time, Ryan almost won it for them.
Williamson- will be some player. Give him a year or two to build his confidence and will be flying.
Walsh- his heart pumps both oxygen and effort at crazy rates. Some blind kicks but given the conditions cant fault it.
Newnes- ok

Another observation from watching the replay...was Harry. He wasn’t too far away from having a real big game.

Could have kicked 5+ goals and I think he would have if conditions were slightly drier.

I think we’ll see him rip a game or two apart in the run home.

If Harry and Charlie ever get a decent run at it then we could be anything.

Cottrell is pretty unrefined, but his intensity and drive is huge. Covers a hell of a lot of ground.

Seems like a natural defensive winger.

I really think we've found one in Cottrell.

Agree however we’ve won 5 games without his usual influence and been in most this year.Teague keeps talking about spreading the load and perhaps he’s role has changed a bit.

Walsh is the one who’s gone to another level.
