Well that is unexpected but still it's great for Ed to finally receive some long overdue media recognition.

Was there last night with my boy who also bleeds blue. Literally still can’t believe what happened. What a night, what an experience, what a range of emotions.

Was utterly devastated, thought there was no chance of kicking the goal. Could barely watch but then I saw the boys reaction and realised it was going through. Well absolute euphoria took over. Can’t even remember exactly what I did after that but it did involve running down the aisle screaming gods knows what.

With where we have come from, what we’ve endured and the reaming we have received from the umps this year, we bloody deserve that. We being the entire club and it’s members and supporters.

It is a strange, weird season (and year). Let’s enjoy this and hope it leads to more wins.
I've been going to Carlton games near on every week for 30 years and Port melbourne games for the past 10.

I've never watched my team win by sinking a kick after the siren until last night.

I've been there to see a loss 3 times and 1 win from a missed kick.

Awesome experience you got. Cherrish it always.

Agree Harks. Watched the game again this morning and gee he was impressive. He was often in really good positions to get the handball receive but wasn’t used. He’s going to develop into a beauty.

It’s nice to have a ruckman with a leap.

Best thing about this game was that it was a pretty tough and physical game with a lot of pressure and a lot of tackling and we bought into that. Certainly an area that has improved a lot with Carlton.

Curnow - If Ed's getting 30 plus touches and hitting targets he's having a good day and he did.

Cripps - Good game by Cripps, when he's in amongst it using his strength that's where he's at his best.

Walsh - Playing some better more mature footy at the moment. Just fitting in nicely in the midfield contest. Good to see him hit the scoreboard.

Murphy - Playing a lot better than the soft player who didn't want any contact against Hawthorn. Getting involved in the contest and just having a go out there. Improvement is good but his physical game and handball game was still not that great. Still good enough as long as it does not drop.

Docherty - Probably not in top form but he's playing ok.

Setterfield - Contributing nicely and getting his hands on it in the contest which is good to see.

Cottrell - Really impressed by him. As a skinny outside player you could forgive him for being a bit noncontact but he's not. Love his competitiveness and he does not shirk the physical stuff. Demonstrated some nice skills and could have got it a bit more if we handballed a bit more. Really liked what I saw from him.

Gibbons - Lead the side for Pressure acts so can't say he is not trying. Thought he was good around the contests and stoppages but he always is.

Newnes - Kicked the winning goal, what a great kick! He gets criticised a lot but one thing he does is he tackles strongly and doesn't shirk a contest. That's why he is playing ahead of others.

Fisher - Thought his game was good. Gave good pressure, just needed to convert but his game was solid.

Kennedy - Quiet game from Kennedy.

SPS - I like when he competes strongly and I thought he did. Used the ball well and did a job which was good.

Casboult - Not a bad game, played his role, took some nice marks and lead well.

McKay - Liked his game, gave a good contest and worked hard.

Weitering - Opponent got the better of him for only the second time this season. He was solid but I thought he probably just lost that battle.

Williamson - Liked his game, can hit up a long target. Competitor.

DeKoning - He an AFL quality ruckman. Still a bit light for size but his leap is good and he's competes. Would like to see a bit more around the ground and some marking but he's probably a little underdone and it was wet. Doing a good job.

Plowman - Thought he was good and his workrate was good.

Betts - He's not kicking goals but he's applying pressure and doing some good things up the ground so that's ok. Would rather see him playing with effort and applying pressure than being lazy and kicking plenty of goals. I like the example he's setting.

Jones - He's in good form, such a nice field kick but in front of goal looks a bit iffy. Like his form at the moment. Less clumsy and slipping over stuff and good contesting.

Honey - Looks to have a lot going for him. Good size, good mover, seems like he can handle the ball. His kicking could have been better though. I feel if we persist with him he'd improve at this level.

We should've won the game but not with Newnes' last kick.

Umpiring was pretty bad both ways so nobody can really complain about the nature of the free kick - It's the first time I've seen this season a dubious call go Carlton's way anyway.

Glad we walked away with the 4 points - 5W 6L is about where I saw us at the start of the year. Lets iron out those lapses and polish, finish strong and mount for a finals push next year.
I don't see why the last free was so dubious.

Doc was clearly shoved down after he kicked it which is a free kick down field.

The field ump who payed it blew the whistle before the ball was out and wasn't looking at where it went.

There were a few questionable calls (not sure what HTB is anymore) that went our way and a few that went Freo's way.

I can think of 2 times Freo got a free that should have been down field pulled back.

All Freo had to do to win that game was not push Doc over.

Might help with the media hysteria if they knew there is no rule in the rule book relating to the closest person receiving the free kick. Awarding Newnes is not an error.
Maybe I’m wrong. Actually who gives a **** !

Still farking buzzing !

Oh yeh Walsh is putting together a really solid season just quietly.

Isn’t racking it up as much as last year (which is obvious with the shortened games) but he is standing up in more crucial moments. He’s developed a real hard edge over the past month, and getting to a shitload of contests he has no right to get to.

Absolute workhorse.

Totally. I also like that he’s not getting the public adoration relative to same of the other picks in his draft.

Just getting it done to a very high standard. He was huge last night.

Gibbons is a pretty good shot from the boundary.

For all we know, he would've sunk the kick as well.

Making an issue over Newnes/Gibbo getting the free is clutching at straws.

I really think we've found one in Cottrell.

Quintessential role player. Not blessed with a heap of skill, but committed to the cause and will get the absolute most out of himself.

We all knew about his elite running ability, but his wholesale toughness is a really nice surprise.

Strange game.

Poor decision by the umpire at the end, but it went both ways because the 2 Freo got in the first quarter were bad as well. It’s not like it was a gift in front of goal 20m out - loved that kick from Newnes, not just because it won the game but because it was a tough set shot under the most pressure possible - that’s the composure that makes such a huge difference in the game. Our senior guys need to start doing that sort of stuff by default. Good example of the opposite was the OOB by Doc at the death there - that’s not good enough for a leader, just like Cripps continuously missing getable set shots for goal at important points in the game.

For me the best part of that win was that it was the young guys that dragged us back into the game with desperation. Cottrell looks like the goods to me - hope he plays the rest of the year. TDK is showing some exciting potential. Fish is sensational.

Cripps has never been one to get pushed around the way he has for a part of this season.
He'd generally ground himself and one couldn't move him, yet he's getting bumped out of the contests all too easily, for now.

Something just isn't right.
Maybe his centre of gravity has shifted with the leaner version, and he hasn’t adjusted yet.

I don’t get the angst against SPS the majority of his disposals hit a target if he is 20 from goal hits up a team mate at 50 and they have a decision to go inside or down the line
Or you have The Doc kick blindly straight to a fifty fifty or try to hit a target at 30
SPS is best 22 every day of the week and class has time to look for the best option and generally uses it

Its the dinky kicks out of defence in the first quarter that went straight to Fremantle players.
I'd prefer Cottrell at HB and move SPS up the ground.

If it was the other way around and Doc pushed Brayshaw who kicked it out on the full then awarded the free to Taberner down field it'd role onto the frustration to the nature of the frees against us from last week.

Not saying I'm unhappy, we should've won regardless given the two questionable free kicks Fremantle got in front of goal early on. I'm just saying you can't really say that last thirty seconds wasn't dubious.
