His first half was pretty good. Fell out of it in the second half like his team mates. Hes better than jones, McHenry etc. Hes only just turned 22. I will admit he needs to get used to the pace of AFL as hes been a bit slow to dispose of the ball and has been caught. This will come with experience and AFL game time. We write of players way too quickly on this board.

Poholke should be better than most of our kids by virtue of being on a list for longer.

That said, he's been here for four years and really has just capped out as a depth midfielder at this level. If he was to survive the axe this year, it'd only be because we've cut too deeply already.

He's done.

He's not better than the players you mention.

Ultimately, he doesn't have a weapon, other than MAYBE taking a good contested mark every couple of weeks, which is the absolute last thing you want from you six footers.

He will be an absolute sensation SANFL footballer.
He is better as a midfielder. JOnes and McHenry dont know how to find the ball. Its not something you can teach. I should know I was one of them as a kid. I had all the skills in the world at training but did not know how to get a kick come game day..

I'd play him for the rest of the season though. Still shows some signs.

He's in until Brad is fit for me. Unless we decide to opt for O'Connor, which we probably should do.

Could easily play both O'Connor and Poholke. This week was the first I can remember seeing Poholke with some real midfield time, after solid games at hff. Give him a few more at least.

Chairman Rob in his address at lunch today and I quote ‘we WILL have picks 1 and 2 in the draft and 5 picks inside the top 30’

Now I know he may be trying to sell a vision to sponsors, but it was a definitive statement, there was no ‘may’ or ‘possible’.

Of course, I had no idea Rob is in charge of list management.

So if that's true (which I highly doubt he would know that already) then that means we have been told we are getting pick 2 for Brad and then an end of first round priority pick. Unless he is counting the bulldogs 2nd as our 5th pick inside 30, currently that pick sits at pick 30.

Even more vitally, he's had four years on an AFL list, which means all of the easy developmental paths should have been exhausted. Time on a list is much more important than age.

Outside of his first pre-season where he looked like a bonafide Sloane clone, not really. Poholke really just capped out as a depth player level quickly. There really isn't anything to his game that stands out at this level outside of a nice contested mark, and that's just icing for a midfielder. With kids you want tools that stand out. At least Jones can cling to a nice tackle and some good pace and skills. McHenry tackle + agility.

The only way Poholke improves from this point would be another club picking him up as a DFA and finding a niche for him. I.e. Keays. I would be very surprised if that occurs as Myles seems like the type who'd excel for Norwood/Sturt.

Sorry remind me, is Atkins OOC this year or next?

If it's this year he HAS to be shopped. He's a defensive liability yes, but a great weapon for a team that has strong team defence and structures.

I could see someone paying him 450-550k to get him across, question is, would that land us Band 3 Compo? I realise that question is hard to answer, but the club would have some idea and if he does get B3, then we are laughing because that equates to pick 20. If that's the case, I'd be sending 19/20 (or 20/21 however you want to look at it) straight to GWS for Hately.

Just prepare yourself for the absolute uproar when the rest of the competition sees us getting potentially pick 2 and 20 in compo picks, it's going to be WW3 on the ol' tweeter feeds.

Worst case scenario I feel is we get 19 for Brad andend of 2nd(39 for Atkins, which if is the case,I'd be looking to force a trade).
If someone offered Atkins a $500k a year 4 year deal we’d be getting more than band 3. It would be an end of first round pick. Motlop going to port on $500k for four years earnt geelong an end of 1st rounder..

but anyone offering $500k a year for Atkins has ****n rocks in their heads!..

Although... Port offered it to Motflop.. so there is that!.. is Motlop better than Atkins?. I’d argue they are pretty similar in that they both play one great game in every four.. rest of the time they are both either MIA or just plain shite.

Or maybe some dopey club has offered Atkins a $500k a year contract which gets end of 1st round compo... surely not??.. right?... but you never know. He is good in a decent side.

theres no way the AFL give us a PP this year.. but they might be a bit more generous with any FA compo picks they give us.. especially if we go winless.

we are a basket case at the moment and that would terrify the AFL given that we have been a very nice fat little cash cow for them over the years and one who’s supporters have never had to endure a huge “bottoming out” phase..

they simply dont know how the crows supporters are going to react to a prolonged period of poor performances.. will they turn off, stop subscribing to Kayo, stop buying merch, cancel their memberships and not bother going to games?... who knows?

the AFL are now in a spot of financial bother due to Covid-19.. they need all their cash cows to continue being fat and healthy to help get them through the next few years.. they are carrying enough financially unviable teams as it is.

the crows being in the doldrums for too long might see them lose a heap of the supporter base and thus threaten the health of said cash cow..

the boffins in the AFL marketing and financial departments would be crunching the numbers and coming up with strategies to ensure crows fans dont turn their backs.. it is a business after all. Lose customers and you lose money.

Not if lists are being cut.

Even then ...

He's the absolute last player selected, hasn't played a game and has a season ending injury.

Just tell him to move home. We need list room.
Yeah, well we considered him good enough to give him a list spot and given the circumstances I think it would be an absolute shit act to piss him off without giving him a chance. Players his size with speed (sub 3-00 sec), agility and leap are quite hard to find and obviously Steve McCrystal who'd been tracking him closely saw a mountain of upside to come. Plenty of players on our list that have zero upside need to go before a promising kid gets the chop.

Updated departures list:

B. Crouch (FA)
Atkins (FA)
Gibbs (pay out his contract)
Knight
Mackay - (retire - possible SANFL captain in 2021)
Seedsman - trade
Davis
Crocker
Wilson
Taylor
Strachan (re-rookie if we can't find anyone better)

Gallucci probably gets a one year sympathy deal - possibly on the rookie list.

Doedee being injured all the time means we will probably keep Kelly.
Aren't Crouch and Atkins RFA's?

Pedantic.
There is a difference

RESTRICTED FREE AGENT
These players are in the top 25% of salaries at their club and have served a minimum of eight years at the club. It means they’re eligible for restricted free agency the first time they are out of contract.
UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENT
These players are not in the top 25% of salaries at their club but have served at least eight years. That’s what makes them eligible for unrestricted free agency. And players on the primary list of their club who are delisted are classed as unrestricted free agents too, but a player who retires or delists themself isn’t. Got it?
COMPENSATION
If a club has a net loss of players due to them transferring as free agents, the AFL will sometimes allocate draft picks to those clubs. But compensation can only ever occur in the one transfer period.
MATCHING OFFER
A matching offer is just that - a club may submit a contract offer that matches the contract offer proposed by a club seeking to secure a player. But this relates to restricted free agents only.
OUT OF CONTRACT
Basically, this player's contract is up. The club's options are to either renew them, delist them, or they could try to trade them during the Trade Period.

I don't think for a second that we'll bother matching, so being restricted isn't really relevant.
We don't have to match a bid, but its wildly important that we have the opportunity to match a bid, which only is available in RFA's.

Its like having the winning lottery numbers printed on a lotto ticket vs the winning numbers written in texta on your hand... 1 is certainly more relevant to the other when trying to claim whats owed to you!

jackster83 FYI, Davis is contracted for 2021.

For some reason we announced last year that we’d re-signed him for two more years, named him that week to debut against the Cats, then dropped him after he failed to light it up at that shithole in Geelong. Classic Crows.

I really don't know what we're doing with him.

He can't be any worse than Crocker surely? Crocker is the worst player to represent the AFC since Jarrhan Jacky played a few games.
