Autopsy Round 14: Hawks fall in a hole v Bombres

Midfield got absolutely torched and your first post is to pot Wingard.

It's getting really tired.

Yeh I agree on the midfield but seriously we paid a kings ransom for him and the guy just hasn’t delivered. What’s getting tired is those who continually defend him. Has had a poor year and has been sub par since we drafted him. When you pay the big bucks with both draft picks and a fat contract you expect to get a Maserati. Wingard playing more like a Commodore since we drafted him

Trend during our 3peat years was for us to fight it out with the opposition for 2-3 quarters then run over the top of them.

Ever since its been the reverse.
Your comparing one of the greatest teams ever with a group that is currently 16th and didnt make finals last year .

I do agree though the amount of times we let opposition sides steamroll us is a big concern and has been happening for 2-3 seasons now.

Was alarm bells for me when North mowed down a 30 point lead in about 10 minutes against us . Its just not really good sides that are doing it

I respectfully disagree with you
Respectfully as a long term poster who I’ve enjoyed reading over the years
But I’m actually seriously over Clarkson at the moment
His performance this year has been putrid

Thanks, mate!

2020 is a disaster, let's first agree on that. Omit this year, can you say you've felt this way about Clarkson before? Personally, I can't.

No coach in modern history, has come close to replicating what Clarkson has achieved (not even close). Moreover, since our last premiership in 2015, we've accumulated pittance in the form of quality draft picks. Before replying, do me a favour and go through our list and honestly assess each of our players.

I know people will rip into Minch but he is a centre square mid first and foremost not a fwd. He was a VFL star as a mid and kicked goals from the midfield.

Another example of us trying to plug a square hole with a circle. Poor bloke expected to peform in a role that he really hasn't played that many minutes in esp because he is mature age.

We are so ****ing precious with our centre square need the magic handshake to get a look in.

Wtf mate so the game plan in the first half was something else? We got smashed in the middle again it always starts there. You really dont have a clue seriously your view of this club is now blinded by your obsession of wanting to see so called younger players play. You have lost your objectivity and reacting with emotion. Out dated game plan we shouldn't have been 5 goals up then. The plan is always always only as good as the players executing it

Who cares how much we were up by at half time? What was the end result? It was a 50 point turn around.

This is the same plan that, since 2016 has seen us finish outside of the finals twice (third time pending) and a straight-sets exit.

Who picked the ruckman? Who relegated our one good ruckman to play elsewhere? I didn't. Did you? Or did the coach?

Mitchell and Worpel would do well to watch the efforts of Andy McGrath in the second half.

Offensively he was everywhere and used the ball in a manner which set up team mates and actually did damage. Defensively he ran, chased, harassed, etc. to help get the ball back.

Embarrassed our midfield in both facets.

‘seriously, they could have just run with him cos the bombers are predictable the ring a rosy handball ends up with him running past. Suggests to me unless the players were not following instructions that Clarko was experimenting in pre season mode

Mitchell and Worpel need to get a rocket up them. Mitchell has escaped criticism this year but the lack of effort and unwillingness to pressure the opposition mids is disgraceful. It was a strength of his game in 2018.

Ha ha. We better prepare ourselves for a loss against Adelaide. Surely a win is just around the corner and we could just give it to them based on tonight’s second half performance.
Well we have 4 days to turn around . Might not be a bad thing as we simple have to move on asap

It’s time to play Walker and Maginness. Hopefully Ceglar and O’Brien don’t play another game this year.
Your O’Brien hate is pretty tiresome, even if it is sometimes warranted.

If O’Brien was dropped, do you really think Lewis would really play any better?

Firstly Hanrahan, Cousins, Worpel, Scrim, CJ, Howe, Day are exempt from criticism, their efforts as the young brigade tonight were strong and a big reason we led by 6 goals.
Secondly, Shiels, Wingard, Minch, Ceglar, O'Brien all need reassessment by list management, inept leadership and 0 contributions (a common trend with most of these guys across this season) tonight. Like it was Puopolo, Henderson, frawley, Stratton lacking leadership and contributions early in the season, yet again it's the seniors guys remaining letting us down again now. The kids keep standing up, the veterans stink, it's time we actually pick the team/future list decsions on this basis. Maginness, Walker, Ross, Moore, Lewis, Koschitzke all need a look in ASAP.
Games are won or lost by midfield. We took it up to the top side last week by playing our best ruck, who is probably top 5 in the comp in the ruck. This week it was ceglar who would struggle to be top 50.

McEvoy isn't terrible down back but we need him in the ruck. If we need another tall defender pick another tall defender, I'd rather kosi play poorly down back than ceglar poorly in the ruck. Heck put ceglar chb if you need to, but we absolutely must play our best ruck in the ruck.

Don’t buy that. When has Clarko ever mucked around and been content to lose a regular season game?

I love Scrimshaw... Only positive thing i have in me at the moment

All our younger defenders looked very good in the first half. Admittedly there was little intensity but Scrimma, Day & Jiath combined really well and had a handful of great defensive efforts. Our mids were still getting slaughtered at centre bounces but we were able to win the ball at HB and rebound. The latter two faded once our midfield started getting completely obliterated.
