Bradshaw always projected as a good solid mid with leadership, I think he's delivering on that. Rayner is starting to impact games more and more and is averaging 15 touches a game - by the end of the year I have a feeling your mind will change. :)

Getting better by the week and with a scary high ceiling. I think Rayner will be one of the rare number 1 picks who are actually the best player in their draft.

Brayshaw will be a very good player tho

Raynors been a lot better this year but it helps when you dont leave your home ground and you win a few games by plenty.

Brayshaw should be a pretty good player once he settles as a permanent midfielder. Has the endurance and is slowly improving in disposals. Not sure if he will be captain but he can lead by example, busts his gut all game.

Not sure on LDU due to injuries but Dow looks like a complete bust. Looks way off the pace and torches the ball.

You realise he had his best game for the year last week in an away game right?

Semantics!

Everyone knows playing at home automatically makes you a 20% better player! I mean, Rayner was even born in...Victoria, but whatever, semantics!

I don't think Rayner is all that impressive yet (for a no 1 pick) but will be a deadset gun by 2022 onwards.

Right now I would pick Brayshaw on exposed form/body of work.

What about your boy Dow,think he'll come on?

Hope so, but not very confident

Get the feeling he will ask for a trade at the end of the season.

Actually averaging 10.9 disposals. Semantics.

1. Brayshaw
2. Rayner

Brayshaws foot skills for me. I prefer a player that isn't so 5 minute impactful. Rayner still too big for me to see him playing midfield anytime soon, Petracca is 4 years ahead and is only now playing to his best and not yet for a full season or full games. Clearly going to be out of these 2 though. For these 2 where they end up, the outcome is star v decent solid player as the 2 outcomes, barring unpredictable injury.

Whereas for the 2 below... The outcome is decent solid player v not being AFL standard at all.

3. LDU
4. Dow

LDU over Dow because while neither has put it together at AFL level, I think Dow has much more unfixable issues. LDU hopefully gets 6-8 games to show something, not sure where Dow is at but LDU will likely get played for rebuild reasons whereas Carlton are around the cusp of the 8 and would be loathe to play Dow. Interesting 14 months coming up for the two of them.

For where North are at the mo I would be playing LDU every game as long as he keeps showing something. If North lost to the Lions in the final game in 2017 and secured pick 1 good chance they draft Rayner

They certainly would have. Rayner was the clear #1 in terms of ceiling.

We would be if he was fit.

He's been injured for 12 months and is finally fit.

May be in this week, next at the latest.

Based on this year alone it is a 1 horse race. Brayshaw > daylight > the rest.

Still like LDU going forward though
Watched LDU against the Pies on the weekend and still undecided. Started getting to the right places which is a good start, but he did quite a lot of quick blind kicks forward that were easily intercepted. The more worrying parts were his defensive efforts that cost a few goals. Sometimes ball watching, sometimes just not going in hard enough and committing to the tackle, the jelly arm tackle in the last qtr wasn't a great look.

Has a lovely side step and looks comfortable in close. Hopefully he's past his injuries now and can get a clear run at it. Considering he was seen as the most "ready to go" in the draft it would seem the draft watchers got that quite wrong, even before his injuries he's looked a far way off it.

Yeah I flip flop between LDU being a future gun of the competition and thinking that he reminds of Ahern for all the wrong reasons. He’s still the only one I’d consider taking over Brayshaw in this poll though.

For a number one pick, is it fair to say Raynor has been a bit underwhelming/disappointing ?
He has always been a long term investment, came in with below standard endurance which is improving. Pre Covid I have been to many training sessions and he really puts in, very confident that in the next year or 2 he will break out.... slow burn, not every kid develops at the same rate.

Fair call, the kid still imo has the most natural talent from that draft, but has not yet put it all together.

Right now, I think it's clearly Brayshaw>>Rayner>>>>>LDU>>Dow

With the caveat that it's too early to completely right 'em off: I really haven't seen anything to suggest that LDU and Dow (but Dow in particular) will ever be worthy of their high draft picks or even better than solid players, though in fairness it doesn't seem to be a particularly strong top 10 in any case. LDU starting to get more of the footy at least, but he seems to butcher it a lot and lacks pace. Rayner has a heap of talent and can see him being the game-breaker type and probably the best of the 4 once he stops disappearing in games for large periods. Really rate Andrew Brayshaw - reminds me of a Walsh type who you can set your watch to every week.

And Cerra > Brayshaw.

Developing at a steady pace game to game . A low possession / high impact player who should be tearing games apart in a year or two. Similar player to Petracca who is only putting it all together now in his 6th season

This isn't really the case

In his 3rd season Trac averaged

20 disposals, 2.58 clearances, 0.9 goal assists and 0.79 goals

Rayner is

10 disposals, 1.36 clearances, 0.45 goal assists and 0.82 goals

Despite the criticisms of him Petracca was a far far more complete player at the same stage. Rayner has a loooooooooooooooooooooong way to go before tracking along the same lines as Trac or Dusty as he is so often compared to.

Plus Petracca did a knee. Rayner doesn’t seem to have near the pace or explosiveness of the player type he’s been compared to (Martin, Dangerfield, Petracca) either.
