Opinion Do you guys actually like this club?

There seems to be a swell around these boards, one of negativity and a general feel of giving up - that we can't win this final, our players are overrated, our coaches are no good.

How many of you guys are paid up members? If you are, do you have the same opinion as the above - or is it just a bunch of trolls on this board?
Im glad you said this. Let's all hold hands and sing kimbyah.

Are you only just seeing this now? People on here are the worst. Take everything you read on here with a very small grain of salt. Whilst there are definitely some trolls on here, some just can't get by without always thinking our club or team is screwed.

No. :)

I'm actually a Carlton supporter disguised as a Collingwood supporter who's sole purpose is to fuel the negativity. :)

Paid up member over here, doesn’t that give more license or less to speak up?

I feel like more.

I think these a difference between having an opinion on the way the team is performing (which you may think is poor) and a general feeling that we can't win a game.

It's possible to be critical and positive at the same time.

Personally not too fussed about next weekends game, it’s just where we are at. You never know, it’s a two horse race.

What I am fairly negative and vocal about is;
- how we have salary cap pressure when we aren’t even a top 6 club at the moment
- lack of proper ruck coach for mil dollar ruckman in his prime
- same assistant coaches for a number of years
- same list manager for 17 years and for the last few drafting similar type players and neglecting core areas
- loud mouth president for 22 years running the club with a big ego, never accountable to a stuff up.

There isn't a game this weekend.

The negativity is one part of the forum isn’t it? I find it funny when you say something daft and cop it, visa versa. It’s a barometer of how the club is tracking.

Yes, I am a long time member. I think almost everyone on here who bothers to join a forum such as this is a pretty attached fan.
I attend training sessions, attend games, watch them all on TV when I can't attend in person. Even attend member forums.

People are emotional beings and let their heart pour out. These forums represent a 'stage' for doing so amongst like-minded fans. Not surprisingly, people vent when they hope for something better from our on-field performance.

Like many, there are certain frustrations I have with the club though.

But while premierships are the ultimate measuring stick, I think we've been fortunate to have as competitive a team over my lifetime. I'm more passionate I think because of that. I think I would have less interest had I adopted Melbourne, the Saints, the Roos etc as my team as a young kid.

I appreciate that my love for Collingwood brings me closer together with my children and we can share that interest together, particularly with my son who is similarly passionate and attends most games with me. I'd love for my son to attend a premiership with me. He asked me as we walked past AAMI Stadium post the 2018 GF (having attended 2011 as well) 'What's it feel like to win one?'. Pretty bloody good.

I know too that following the Pies will be an interest I can take into retirement one day. I think many people feel lost when they exit the workplace. I have an outlet and passion.

So I lament some of our player selections, our too slow defensive game plan, the absence of a better qualified ruck coach, our lack of crumbing and lack of set shot kicking practice while fatigued, Ed's conflicted role in the media and his tendency to make captains calls which I think has been detrimental to the culture and performance of the organisation.

But I more than like the club.

Lol so if you use your head instead of your heart when assessing the chances vs a team performing better ya not a true supporter/fan?

Crazy talk. It's called having a realistic view on it, they aren't barracking against the team, they just think they aren't travelling well enough to beat "X" opponent.

According to the OP, you are only a true supporter if you have no criticism about the club and how it goes about things on and off the field. You are also only a true supporter if you are a paid member.

Thank you OP for clearing that up. I feel much better about things now.
OP has obviously never been successful, at anything. Not sure where in life sitting their in a circle-jerk leads to the promised land.

I am not a regularly poster on this forum, been around here since 2016 but definitely more a lurker. My view is that anyone who takes time out of their day to make an account and post on this website could only be a Collingwood supporter. This place often feels overwhelmingly negative, which given it is an anonymous forum where people can vent their frustrations is completely expected.

As for me personally, if it wasn't for Collingwood I wouldn't even follow the AFL. Which is partly due to the fact that I am not that Australian so its a wee bit difficult to follow the sport and I don't think even after living in Melbourne for 10 years have I really understood the tactical or technical side of the game completely but also due to a variety of other reasons. Regardless Collingwood is a club I will support evermore, as my Australian mother before me did and her father before her did. I absolutely don't agree with everything the club does but when it comes down to game day Collingwood will always get my support. So to answer the question; Yes, I very much like Collingwood.

Yeah I'll explain it to the six of my family
Who helped build the stands at Vic park or maybe my grandmother who. After being widowed was supported by both John Wren and archbishop mannix during the depression

Oh and the love I have for the club

Might be due to me being here, existing

Might have somthing to do with the state of footy

It's very very average

You should post more often!

BTW, my fave pub in Edinburgh is Greyfriars Bobby.

Member for 15 years, so obviously love the club. We are allowed as a member or supporter of the club to grieve our frustrations at times, those frustrations don't mean l or anyone else hate the club. It is actually the opposite, as we are so emotionally involved in the team, the frustration comes out unwittingly on majority of occasions.
