Patrick Cripps set to ignore free agency and recommit to Carlton during off-season

Patrick Cripps is keen to sign a new contract at Carlton, but there’s a sticking point which could have Blues fans nervous. (Jon Ralph, Herald Sun)
Patrick Cripps will happily sign away his free agency rights over summer but only when the AFL has given clarity to clubs on the salary cap for coming seasons. The Carlton captain is set for a summer rehabilitating his surgically repaired shoulder after he played on despite three “instability episodes” where the shoulder partially dislocated. Contracted until the end of 2021, he would officially become a free agent next October if he had not already agreed to a new contract.

Cripps willing to re-sign is good on the one hand but why would you give up your free agency right, the biggest card a footballer has in a salary negotiation, unless you are cooked. The loss of pace this season is concerning...hope it is not permanent

Only on the Carlton board could the prospect of your Captain and best player re-signing be viewed as a portent of doom.

Caro goes with Williams on $700-750k/year similar to money offered by Giants.

Just saw that.
Will be much happier if that’s the correct figure.
She has a fair few enemies around the league, but Caro usually has pretty good mail.
She’s a traditionalist who gets a bee in her bonnet very often, but she has decent sources.

Pay $1mil upfront for year one to scare off the Giants, pay $650k every other year to leave room for others.

And she prefers the term "drug scandal" to "supplement saga" which makes her a winner in my eyes.
